The Girl!

Earning Gold was something easily done, but getting the amount asked by the Academy in that period of time will be troublesome.

Link's only choice for now is to start getting Quests from the Guild's board. It was not as profitable as what Link would have liked, but it was a start. You gotta start somewhere.

Link got his Guild Card back, with the image of a Bronze Star. The more Stars you have the higher your Rank. Until you Rank up from 5 to 6, that's when you start with a 1 Star again but it becomes Silver.

Link is only allowed to take 1 Bronze Star Quests, which are either Gathering Plants or finding lost pets and other activities inside the City.

Link being the impatient person that he was, picked up a Gathering Quest. It asked for 5 Mana Plants. He was allowed to bring as many as he wanted though, being an infinite Quest, Link can bring 15 and get the Quest cleared 3 times back to back.

The reward for each completion was around 10 Silver, but the money was not what Link was after. It was the Rank up. The higher the Quests the larger the Reward was.

Outside the City was a dirt road leading into a few trees and grass, but the more you walk the more you find. It turns into a forest, with the path leading to other Towns and Cities.

Link did not need to go all the way in. He could easily find the Plants he wanted in the borders. That's where he was looking.

The only things that bothered him were Inferior Goblins, but all Link needed to do to kill them was swing his weapon once.

Hours passed and the sun started to set, Adventurers went in and out of the Guild. The Receptionist couldn't help but remember the Boy that took the Gathering Quest. It was not something that needed this much time and she started to get worried.

"He's just a kid, maybe something happened to him." She thought to herself.

An Adventurer came up to sell some Beast Materials, that's when Lora asked "Hey, did you see a boy outside when you came back?"

"Outside where? In the streets?" The Adventurer asked, confused.

"No no, I meant outside the City gates. He should be wearing a black-ish Leather Armor" Said Lora.

"No, i didn't. No kid outside"

Link reminded Lora of her younger brother. Which was why she worried about him.

"Hello" A voice spoke. Lora turned with a smile on her face, ready to greet whomever it was. That's when she saw Link, and she took a sigh of relief.

"Hey where were you? This was not a Quest that would take someone that long" Lora spoke.

Link was a bit taken aback. He didn't think that he'll be scolded by the Guild's Receptionist "Was she worried about me?" He thought to himself.

"Sorry, i wanted to collect as many as i could" Link said, removing all the Plants from his Inventory, with some Cores belonging to the Goblins he killed.

Inferior Goblins were too weak, Link did not need the Mana nor the Skills he could get from them, that was if they had any. These creatures were only good at increasing their numbers. Link tried to Consume one Core and only got 5 Mana Points. Selling them was what he decided on.

Lora froze for a bit. She counted the Plants and found 250 Plants. The Quest didn't have a limit but this was too much.

People wouldn't usually collect this much considering they would have to find them and remove them correctly from the ground. No one has this much patience, except Link.

Link found it relaxing. Plus with his powerful vision and senses. He managed to easily smell or see them. They had a distinct smell which never failed to catch Link's nose.

Lora took the Plants and counted the Cores, which were 12 in total. She pulled a square object which was 35cm in length. It had the width of a brick and it was colored black.

"What is that?" Link asked.

"This is what we use to register a Quest's completion" Lora explained. She asked for Link's Guild Card and she put it inside the slot in the middle of the thing.

She cast some sort of spell, a symbol flew towards it and shone. She then started pressing on a button that was located at the side of the Artifact.

Click! Click! Click!

Lora kept pressing it over and over again. With each time an orb of light would fly and land on Link's Card. Lora kept doing so 50 times until she stopped.

"Congratulations, you are a 3 Star Bronze Adventurer now" Lora spoke. Massaging her finger.

"What?" Link was confused, he looked at his Card and noticed that the image changed, just like she said it became an image of 3 Bronze Stars.

"That Artifact is interesting" Link thought to himself "So it was a System similar to my Level Exp Bar? And that machine helps keep track"

Lora brought 5 Silver Coins. They were bigger than the average Silver Coin.

<One of those is probably the equivalent to a 100 Silver Coins>

"Yeah, I guessed the same" Link thought.

"And for the 12 Cores i can give you 12 Silver Coins" Lora said, putting the Coins on the table.

"That's it?" Link asked.

"Yes, sorry. This looks like the Core of an Inferior Goblin. Even untrained kids can kill them, and with the nearly non-existent Mana in them these Cores are not in demand" Lora explained "But 512 Silver Coins in a single day is an amazing thing for someone that just started today. You're probably the first person to Rank up this quickly"

"Thanks" Link smiled, he bowed politely and left.

"512 Silver Coins huh" He sighed "Don't tell me i need 1 000 SC to get 1 GC."

(SC = Silver Coins / GC = Gold Coins)

Link walked towards an Inn. It was the same one he stayed at yesterday. The owner was nice and agreed to let him sleep there.

After getting a room and paying for 10 Days, Link counted how much he had left. "412 SC. So it was 10 SC for a day?" Link sighed.

He remembered the GC that the Academy gave him. Link decided that he wouldn't touch them, since it was already so hard to get Gold, why would he use the amount he has.

In the morning, Link went down to have breakfast, the owner and his wife were very nice people, and their food was very good. They had a daughter named Lily, but Link didn't see her yet, he only heard the Owner talk about her.

Grabbing a Bronze 3 Star Quest Link was excited. The reward jumped from 10 SC to 100 SC. It was a great boost and proof that he only needs to Rank up to get the GCs easily.

[A group of Goblins have taken refuge in the cave located south of the City, please exterminate the threat and bring their Cores as proof.

This Quest has been hung up by the Merchant's Guild. The Goblins have attacked some of their Caravans while they were out. The Goblins are presumed to be numbered over 10 Green Goblin's and a Goblin Conjurer.

Rewards will depend on the number of Goblins killed: 10 SC per Goblin and 50 SC for the Goblin Conjurer]

Lora was worried about Link taking that Quest so she attempted to stop him, but he did not listen and insisted on it.

"That brat is too stubborn, i hope nothing happens to him" She muttered to herself.

Link walked through the City heading to the Gates, that's when he saw someone he recognized.

She wore a beautiful dress with a jacket and boots. Her Elven ears poked through her shiny blond hair.

"It's her" Link muttered to himself. It was the Girl that owned the house he was stuck in when he first came to this continent.

Link slowed his steps as he followed her with his eyes. Since that day he couldn't forget her, he felt like he owed her some form of an apology.

"Quick staring and go talk to her if she caught your eye" Someone spoke from next to Link. It was the Inn's owner.

"I don't think she would like me very much" Link thought about that night and felt even worse.

The old man sighed. "Kids these days should stop being shy and go for it. Back in my day I asked my wife out the moment I saw her. Of course she refused but I never gave up. Now look at me, i'm miserable" The old man laughed.

"Miserable?" Link asked.

"Nevermind, just go and talk to her you coward" The old man pushed Link forward.

Link took a deep breath and went for it. He didn't like her that way but he really wanted to make it up to her.

"Hi" He spoke, catching the Girl's attention.

"Oh, Hi" She smiled "How can i help you"
