Grinding!

Link got back safely and set up for another 'The Story of Genes' Level Up. He sat in the Goblin Cave that he claimed a while back, he informed the Guild about it and was given a sort of notice paper that he could hang by the door to warn all who come.

Of course people can ignore and walk in but Link didn't care much as long as he could use it as a safe spot for things like this. He got the usual pillows and blankets ready for his Skill Level Up, and started it straight away.

Link felt a wave of goosebumps passing through his body. His skin started to get darker, slowly becoming a dirty brown goo like substance. The smell was suffocating, he stood up and took off his clothes, checking himself.

He felt weak for some reason. His limbs were shaking, as if he just woke up the day after a hellish work out.

"What the fuck is this? Why is it happening again?" Link asked. He remembered the same thing happened to him a while back when he first discovered the Story of Genes. But this time the dirty substance seemed thicker and darker in color.

<The body accumulates Impurities with every breath. The Mana you've been consuming is not pure. This happens to everybody but you're probably the only one that could do something about it. Your Mana became denser and purer now. Congratulation>

"What benefits did this Level Up bring me?" Link asked.

<You're body became stronger again, plus you've become more attuned with your own Mana. Now you'll consume less on spells and will boost your Spell's efficiency>

Link used the good old Chore Magic and created water. He cleaned himself and pulled new clothes out of his Inventory before leaving.

Advanced Mana Crystals are a valuable resource that can be mined or created. They are sold and used to simulate electricity or other functions to assist the inventions of this world.

Link started reading about such commodities after buying the books he needed when he got back to the City. He managed to finish everything quickly about the Minerals using his 'Scholar' Skill to help register all the information inside his Skill's Library.

Link found out that they were not cheap, going up to 1 000 GC a piece and that upset him greatly. He did manage to hear stories that people may come up on caves or random Crystals poking out from mountain walls once in a while and that drove Link to read and learn all he could to recognize them when he sees one and not miss his chance.

"I don't have 1 000 GC, and even if i did why would i use it all on a Pet that might not be helpful. I can not risk it and waste my Gold, i'm gonna have to put it to the side for now" Link muttered, closing another book. On his desk there were 3 books Titled Basic Mana Crystals, Intermediate Mana Crystals and Advanced Mana Crystals.

Each book explained the process of their creation, all shapes, colors and how to know the amount of Mana each Crystal has. This was Important, Link learned that for example, 2 Basic Mana Crystals may not have the same value considering the amount of Mana they hold inside of them. So the books helped Link find a way to differentiate between them.

<We have 485 GC, forget about the Pet for now, it will only be a Basic Level 2 creature at best. Even if it can evolve more later it won't be worth it for the time being. We can't spend a 1 000 GC on that>

Link sold a lot of Undead Corpses and received a decent Gold and Rank boost for everything. He became a Silver 3 Star Adventurer. His Quest Rewards became larger but so did the tasks. He could easily earn up to 100 GC a day with a Quest or two, and that was what Link liked. He would mostly take hunting or gathering Quests inside the Dead Forest, since that was his current favorite hunting grounds.

Leveling up and getting stronger was the only thing on his mind and nothing could deter him. Even when girls would come up to him or ask him out, Link would politely decline and leave. He became quite the hotshot. Even Yen couldn't take her eyes off of him whenever he passed by her restaurant.

Completing a Quest or two a day then staying inside the Dead Forest to grind was Link's routine. His Leveling became harder since the Exp amount needed doubled each time. He managed to earn some Skills from all the Cores he was consuming but they were useless junk compared to the Skills he had. The Skills were what the original Creatures would have had if they didn't become Undead and got their powers boosted greatly. Level 2 Creatures had the power of Level 3 and so on. Link had no use for the Skills so he ended up selling them all in the Store and buying the 'Float' Skill back.

"Just in case i need it sometime in the future" Link muttered.

With his remaining Skill Points, Link added them to his Skills that he considered as the most useful.

With 'Blink' reaching the 10 mark and maxing out. He became a shadow, jumping from one place to another. The distance increased to a shocking 500 feet. Sadly though there was no Evolution for it.

Link managed to Max out a lot of his Skills. And he figured out that for a Skill to evolve it was a rare occurrence, and sadly none of his did except 'Superior Harden' which turned into 'Godly Body'.

Link loved his new skill, it might come in handy in a critical situation. He tried to Level it Up more to see if the timer would increase but he couldn't.

"That's theft" Link frowned.

Link was a bit disappointed by that and the fact no other Skill evolved. But that mattered not though since the boost in his Skills powers and capabilities was astonishing.

Link figured out that to reach Max Level did not require a Skill to be 10. Some got the title after reaching 5 as well.

With the assistance of his enhanced Skills, Link managed to Hunt even the Undead knights and Wraiths easily. He reached Level 9 after a lot of hard work, and now needed a shocking 400 000 Exp for his next Level Up.

"This is going to take forever" Link thought to himself. He added the Status Point he got to Agility and continued with his grind.

1 weeks passed, and Link was on the edge of Leveling Up. His Exp was at <398 500 / 400 000>

His Guild Rank became Gold 4 Star, which was one of the Best ranks an Adventurer had in the City. With the previous best being a Gold 2 Star. Yanda City is considered as a small place and rarely any powerful people would stay there.

People started to show respect towards Link, as he was the first person to reach that Guild Rank this quickly probably in ever, and while being so young as well. He became the Idol to most kids while getting so many recruiting offers from Noble Families. Link ignored them all, they were nothing but Nobles from a small City in the middle of nowhere so he didn't care about their angry comments upon his refusal. They could do nothing to him after all.

The people that were sent to spy on him from the beginning started to thin until they stopped. Link guessed that they deemed him as too dangerous to mess with and that made him happy to lose some burdens.

With his rise in Rank, so did his rewards, and earning 1 000 GC was not so difficult anymore. He bought an Advanced Mana Crystal of the best quality and managed to successfully Evolve the Wolf Cub, it turned into an 8 feet tall Beast. Even if it was weak now, Link thought it might be useful to use it as a mount.

After the Wolf Cub ate the Advanced Mana Crystal and evolved. The System asked Link to give it a name, and after a long time thinking he named it "Zazashorous"

It was his Pet's name from an old MMORPG game he used to play back in his old world and was happy to use it again, giving him a good nostalgia feel. But he started calling it 'Zasho' for convenience. The Wolf's fur was red like blood with dark spots here and there looking ominous.
