Goblin?

Link managed to stay up all night, distracting himself with the system, talking to it and asking some random questions, then at Midnight he got his new Daily Quests.

Link snuck out and slowly completed both Quests, gaining 45 Exp at once, but he was still too far away from leveling up.

When Morning came, Link felt a bit tired but it was nothing to think about. He grabbed his equipment and left for the woods, grabbing a small sandwich Anny made for him since he was skipping breakfast.

Link wanted to try out his luck again, looking for any animal tracks, and looking up trees as well.

He wanted to at least try to get something now before his exhaustion kicks in.

Passing by bushes and making sure he doesn't miss a thing, he suddenly found a set of tracks, but he couldn't figure out what they belonged to.

The footsteps looked like human's feet but too small and had only 4 toes. It didn't look like they were cut off but like it was already like that, perfectly fitting in.

"What are these?" Link mumbled, examining it.

<From the shape and size, i presume it's a Goblin's>

"What? A goblin? What is it doing here? From what I read they live deep inside dungeons and caves, feeding on small animals and fruit." Asked Link, Confused.

<Maybe it's a stray, and i assume the book you read was censored for children>

"What do you mean?"

<Goblins are an aggressive species, they eat everything and attack anything. They have the intelligence of a 11 year old and live in groups, they raid villages, kill the men and kidnap the women for breeding. Since they always have the number advantage, they are considered as Level 3 Intermediate Level Monsters.>

"God" Link muttered "How do you know all of this anyways?"

<I have some knowledge of this world. It's limited but like i said, i do learn quickly, i can be your bestiary, Herbal, and journal if you want>

"Interesting, that's useful" Link continued "You said they raid Villages, does this mean our village is in danger?" Asked Link, Worried.

<Most Likely>

The answer terrified Link, becoming nervous.

<Calm down, we need to follow the tracks and see if our discovery is correct or not before we send the village into panic.>

"You're right" Said Link, getting to work.

The process was a lot easier than tracking small animals, the Goblin was messy and leaving tracks everywhere. From berry bushes picked all out to even some feces which were too big for the animals that lived in the area.

"Disgusting"

Link kept moving, trying so hard to follow the tracks, till he reached an area he seemed to recognize, though he never was there, only heard descriptions.

The Bandits Old Camp.

"I knew we should have Cleaned up and took over the spot" Link continued "I'm going to go and take a closer look"

Link slowly got closer, going around looking for another way inside, or at least to look in.

On the left side of the camp, a wooden wall was burnt creating an opening. Link walked over and peeked in carefully.

Link was in the forest, trees behind him and the camp on the other side. As he looked in he pulled his head back quickly, covering his nose.

"We really should have cleaned up, it's full with rotten corpses" Link took a step back, cringing from the putrid smell.

He pulled a cloth from his pocket and wrapped it around his nose, covering his mouth as well.

<I can do something about that>

<Sense Of Smell : Off>

A message popped up, surprising Link.

"How did you do that?" He said, sniffing the air but getting nothing.

<The System is you, and you are The System. It gives you the ability to control all your senses.>

"My sense of pain as well?"

<Yes, it can be disabled>

"Good to know"

Link took a step inside, trying his best to ignore the nauseating view. People laid everywhere, rotting away, being eaten by maggots. Their faces contorted in pain, But still no sign of a single drop of blood anywhere.

"What the hell did Master Saya do?"

As Link kept stepping away from the corpses, he heard something on his right. He hid behind a tent, looking through a hole.

Seeing Nothing.

"What the hell?" Link frowned "I could have sworn i heard something"

A giant tent stood in the middle, Link guessed the noise came from there, heading to it's direction as slowly as he could.

*Waa

A sound came from his left, making him jump.

"It's just a fox. That scared me," Link said, looking at the yellow fox with the three flaming tails.

He continued approaching the Tent, amazed by its size. He used his Hunting Knife to move the cover over the doorway, slowly stepping inside.

The place was dark, the light from the the gap that Link opened to the outside being the only source of light,

That allowed Link to see it.

Inside, near one of the huge boxes, a small head appeared. It looked like a deformed child, with skin made pale, almost translucent, by having spent it's whole life in darkness, rarely leaving. It had huge eyes, a bumpy button nose and pointy ears.

<Goblin!> The system yelled, making Link move again.

The creature rushed forward fearlessly, holding a club between its hands, quickly followed by a dozen more creatures, All armed with rudimentary weapons.

The Goblins screamed in a frenzy, they hadn't had fresh meat in months, only eating rotting flesh.

"Oh f*ck me!" Link screamed, finally solving the riddle.

"They are a group, and so close to the village!"
