Family Reunion (1)

Link stood there, looking at the gruesome scene in horror. People were being slaughtered like cattle while the village guards couldn't do anything.

Gail ran towards a woman about to be ripped into and threw a punch towards the creature. He towered over it and to others it might have looked like it'll bear results, but the creature moved, dodging the punch without even looking. It turned its head and bit into Gail's hand, breaking it and tearing the whole arm off.

"ARGH!" Gail screamed, falling to the ground. Laughter could be heard from the creature, it smiled and turned towards the woman again. It seemed sadistic, as it made sure that Gail watched it stab and cut the woman as she screeched in pain.

Link's heart was breaking. He was no stranger to gore but what was happening in front of him was something else, especially when he couldn't even help. He tried running towards a helpless girl, but as he attempted to block the creature's attack, it went right through Link like he was nothing but a spirit.

Wosh!

Before the attack landed on the little girl, a sword swung, cutting off the disfigured arm. A man stood between them wearing white armor with wings on his back.

"The Royal Guards!" Link muttered. Right behind the man, more and more guards flew in and landed in the middle of the disaster. They moved in unison and attacked. A fight started as the villagers finally got a little time to breath, they started running, but the scene was so chaotic that they did not know where to go, nowhere seemed safe.

"Over here!" One of the Royal Guards yelled, pointing towards a direction. People listened and started running, helping the injured on the way.

Link looked back at the scene once more before following the survivors. He felt sad, as he couldn't help at all and only watched as the people that he considered family suffer.

"Where are they?!" Link muttered, going through the survivors looking for his family.

"Reo, come on. Please keep it together" Link's whole world fell as he heard this, he turned around seeing Sal and Robart holding a man covered in blood. His leg was gone with rags wrapped around the stump, on his back there was a wound so deep that his spine was in plain view. His hair was drenched in blood as well, Link couldn't tell if he was injured there as well or not. Right behind them Anny, Lisa and Rena followed with their eyes full with tears. Anny had some cuts on her face while Lisa looked tired.

Even though they were not in the best of shapes, Link couldn't help but smile. "Thank god you're all alive!" Link took a deep breath, finally calming down a little. "Ok, now where's Ranold?" He muttered.

Ranold is Samuel's dad. Now that Link was reassured about his family, he wanted to help Samuel as well. Looking around over and over again, Link couldn't find him. "He must be ahead" Link muttered. The group of survivors walked through the forest, with whatever Beasts that attacked got easily killed by the Royal Guard that was leading the way.

They reached the mountain, on its side a cave was hidden where the group walked in. Inside there was a team of healers with other people that helped the survivors settle. The Royal Guard walked back out to help other survivors in the village.

Link was starting to feel weak, as his Mana was nearly all gone. He deactivated the spell, finding himself back in the village with Samuel standing to the side.

"What was that?" Samuel asked. When Link activated the spell, the space around him was distorted, like looking out a moving car window.

"I found the camp!" Link said, making Samuel jump. "Let's go"

Link and Samuel ran through the forest, heading towards the mountain that was peeking at them over the trees. On the way, they could finally see traces of blood and rags thrown, forming some sort of inaccurate trail.

When They finally reached the spot, Link started running around, looking for the cave. "Where is it?" The mountain walls looked smooth, like there never was a cave at that location before. "Is it an illusion?" Link thought, touching the spot where the opening used to be.

Dang!

Link punched the spot over and over again, taking off chunk after chunk. He created a small cave, but he still couldn't find anything. "Damn" Grabbing Mana potions from his Inventory, Link drank them all and restarted his 'Time Leap' spell.

The same thing happened again, but this time Link was going back slowly, trying to see what happened exactly.

The cave that he created slowly started building itself back, returning the once smooth surface. Time kept going backwards, slowly but steadily getting to the time of that horrible incident.

"There!" Link said, looking at what's happening before him. From what Link has seen, this place was nothing but a temporary camp where they filled up with some kind of earth spell. They moved the survivors to another base, and there they proceeded to slowly lead them towards the Kingdom.

Link followed after them for days, as he kept buying Mana potions and returning where he last left off. Samuel didn't understand what Link was doing but seeing how much effort he was putting into it, he knew that Link was tracking down the villagers.

Their travel took a long time, but they slowly started to find clues of a group of people passing through, Link knew that the Royal Guards were taking the survivors back to the Kingdom and he knew that the incident only happened a few days ago so they might be able to catch up with them.

In the distance, a giant camp could be seen with fires lighting up the night sky. Link and Samuel were excited, they could clearly see the poorly dressed people walking around.

They started heading towards them when a couple of Guards dropped from the sky with majestic wings, forcing Link and Samuel to stop.

"Identify yourselves" One of the guards spoke.

"We're residents of Toula village, we've been dismissed for the year from the Military Academy and since finding our village in that state we started tracking you guys" Link explained. He wasn't his aggressive usual self. Even with the Guard's tone, Link wasn't even a bit agitated. He knew that these people fought and saved his family, even went as far as to help them get to a safer place and protect their camp.

"Show proof of your identity or we won't be able to let you through" The guard spoke again.

"Proof? I said we're residents of a village, we have no identity cards, what the hell do you want me to show you? My farmer's clothing?" Link replied. He wasn't agitated but he found the Guard's comment a bit stupid, so he answered that way out of instinct.

"Link, calm down" Samuel stepped forward, he didn't want to cause trouble with the Royal Guards as well, mostly because for the same reason as Link's. "The villagers can easily identify us, we're just worried about our families"

"I don't usually deal with villages so i realize what i asked was a bit off" The guard said "Stay here, we'll get some people from Toula village to come and see if they can identify you two"

The guard seemed calm, even after the way Link spoke to him he didn't react. He left and brought 3 people, one of them Link knew, it was the Barber, the other was Robart while the third person was Sal. The moment they laid their eyes on the 2 kids, they screamed. "Link..Samuel!!"

They hugged and talked. The guards let them pass and they headed towards the camp. The place was a bit crowded as many villages were attacked, they were led through the camp and into a part where they started recognizing some people. It seemed like this part held Toula village residents only.

Link walked in, looking around with a smile on his face.

Bam!

Suddenly, someone jumped on his back, hugging him with their hands and legs. Link recognized the smell, it was Lisa. "Link! You're back" She held on like a piranha, not wanting to let go.

"Link?" Some villagers reacted after hearing the name, they rushed over and greeted the two kids with smiles. Although Link could tell that they were trying their best not to show something.

Rena ran through the crowd and jumped on Link as well, hugging him just like her sister but she occupied the front. "I became a human mount" Link thought, laughing.

He looked down, trying to see his sister's face, but she had her head buried in his chest. "What's wrong?" He asked.

"D..Dad!" She muttered, hugging him tighter.
