I was walking in downtown Tulsa after a shift at work.
"God, my feet hurt!" I thought.
My steps were uneasy and heavy as I continued limping towards home. I started to hear a ruckus over the music playing in my ear.
"What the hell is going on?"
I looked up from the ground in front of me to find myself with a baton pointed right at my face.
"Hey boss, looks like someone is in the wrong place at the wrong time," a man who appeared to be a police officer said, a wicked smile plastered on his face.
I froze, panic momentarily flashing in my eyes as the situation became apparent.
"I need to get out of here," I thought as I extremely slowly reached for the blade I kept in my chest pocket.
"Now don't be an idiot," a man in a suit approached, lifting a pistol.
I raised my hands.
"Sorry kid, wrong place, wrong tim—"
He was cut off by a sudden cacophony of sirens.
He grabbed me, no doubt intending to use me as a hostage.
"GRAB THE BITCH, GRAB THE MONEY AND MOVE!!" he yelled.
A scream was heard as the one dressed as an officer walked up with a duffel bag on his shoulder, pulling the hair of a woman who couldn't be any more than 27.
"I don't like this," I thought.
"Move!!"
A pistol hit the back of my head hard enough to get my attention but not enough to stun me.
I moved through the alley, the barrel of a gun over my left shoulder.
We emerged from the other side to a wall of guns and red/blue lights.
"Freeze!! Put down the gun and release the hostages!"
The man froze momentarily before raising his gun to meet the officers, his lackey doing the same.
"Is this guy crazy?" I thought before elbowing him in the gut and rushing to the side where the lady was being held.
Bang!! Bang!! Two shots rang out from behind me, and I collapsed on top of the lady, thankfully out of the way of the proceeding gunfire. However...
Deep crimson started painting my chest and stomach.
"Oh fuck..." I said, my eyes landing on the bodies of the robbers and the police officers rushing to our positions.
"Sir, stay awake, medical professionals are inbound, sir...?"
Light was leaving my eyes, and all I could think of was, "At least I was strong enough to save one person."
My perspective changed.
It felt like I was grabbed by giant, inescapable but oddly comforting hands.
"You are worthy of a second chance. SO COMMANDS THE ONE ABOVE ALL!"
My soul shook.
"And a gift."
A massive finger pointed, curled, and...
A flick of cosmic proportions!!
My spiritual eyes went dark, my thoughts soon followed.
