Rat Trap

As Laura crossed the threshold into the narrow escape tunnel, the last of the three, some unseen mechanism triggered, causing the false section of wall to smoothly close behind them. The often-overlooked cacophony of background noise was absent from inside the tunnel, amplifying the sounds of their own blood coursing through their veins, making them uncomfortable.

The tunnel itself was dry and surprisingly clean, perfectly cut marble blocks lined the walls, floor, and ceiling, granting it an almost clinical feeling. It reminded Laura of the infirmary back inside the Academy that she had regularly visited while practicing her healing spells. As she reminisced about her time inside the Academy, running her hand over the cool marble blocks, Professor Treffle spoke.

"Alright, these tunnels probably spread throughout the palace, touching most of the rooms. We'll check out each exit as we go, with any luck, we'll find what we're looking for."
