Ch 3: Golden Ray Of Light

Ryker went north.

His tiny figure gradually disappeared into the distance as the strong midday sunlight shone on him.

There were wide roads going in different directions. Ryker continued to run forward, his eyes gradually turning redder and redder.

"Mom…" The unwilling expression that his mother had when she passed away subconsciously appeared in Ryker's mind, causing him to tightly clench his teeth.

I must become stronger!

Mom taught me that a person can only rely on themselves. One can only live a better life if one is strong.

Scenes of the past about his mother unceasingly flashed through his mind.

Ryker quickly arrived at a wider road as he walked towards the north. One could see many hoverboards, flying cars, hyperloops, and many other technological means of transportation.

However, Ryker had no money to ride on even an ordinary taxi, let alone ride a flying car or take other means of transportation.

If he wants to go to Skyler City, he has to walk on foot.

Skyler City was more than a thousand kilometers away from Star City, and no one knows how many days it'll take Ryker to get to Skyler City on foot.

Besides a set of clean clothes, Ryker had also brought some dry rations in his bag, as well as some money that his mother had obtained through hard work. But this amount of money was not enough for him to ride a taxi to Skyler City. He also brought a dagger in his bag, for who knows if he might fall into a perilous situation, this dagger will come in handy.

The Brown Mansion was located in the north-central region of Star City, and the road that Ryker chose to walk on leads to the Great Star Forest that bordered the northern area of Star City and Skyler City. Various types of beasts lived within the Great Star Forest. Furthermore, there was no lack of powerful beings inside the forest.

This Great Star Forest alone was spread to more than five hundred kilometers. Skyler City was located on the other side of the Great Star Forest. If Ryker wants to go to Skyler City, he has to first cross the Great Star Forest.

If anyone else knew that Ryker had dared to enter the Great Star Forest by himself, without someone powerful accompanying him, they would definitely be stunned speechless. They would have thought Ryker must be overestimating his own capabilities. Since he didn't have any ability or strength at all, he might not even be able to walk out alive of the Great Star Forest!

Ryker gazed far into the distance as he walked forward, supported by this resolute conviction. When he was thirsty, he'd look for some spring water to drink; when he was hungry, he'd eat some of the rough biscuits that he'd brought along with him. He did nothing other than hurry forward on his journey.

Ryker wanted to reach Skyler City as soon as possible, look for his sister, and tell her everything. Then both brother and sister will cultivate together and become strong. Years later, when his strength would reach the point where he could challenge his father, he would return to Star City and take revenge for his mother.

While Ryker was walking, still deep in thought, the sky suddenly rumbled with a deafening sound, causing Ryker to snap out of the state of deep thought. He looked upward, only to see a golden ray of light shooting straight at him as if wanted to pierce into his body.

Before Ryker could take any step, the golden ray of light directly landed on his head and Ryker fell to the ground. His body slowly disintegrated into countless particles of golden light and vanished.

In an enclosed dark space, a burst of light appeared, lighting up the enclosed dark space.

This place was huge. The end of this place couldn't be seen.

Because of the sudden appearance of light, one can see that this was a green land with no trees or mountains, only lush green, and verdant small grasses.

The sky above this green land was completely dark without a single shine of light.

At this time, golden fragments of light suddenly appeared in the sky as they fell down and started getting together, taking the shape of a young man.

Ryker opened his eyes and took a deep breath. He revealed a fearful expression on his face as he looked at his surroundings.

"Where am I?"

Ryker still remembered that he had just reached the edge of the Great Star Forest when a golden ray of light shot at him from the sky and landed on his head.

The moment the golden ray of light landed on his head; he lost his consciousness. When he woke up again, he found himself standing in this unknown place.

Looking at the surroundings, there was nothing here other than an endless grass field.

Before Ryker could truly see his surroundings, he heard a series of mechanical voices coming from every direction.

[Welcome to the Land of Eternity, mortal!]

[Congratulations on being selected as the chosen one!]

[Preparing for integrating the System!]

[Starting the integration at the count of three!]

[3... 2... 1.]

"Argh!"

Before Ryker understand what was happening or who was talking to him, he felt a burst of pain suddenly appearing on his body.

As though a barrel of petroleum set fire to his body, Ryker felt a piercing and acute wave of burning pain coming from within his body and assaulting his senses madly. A muffled grunt escaped Ryker's mouth, and he almost let out a tragic cry.

"W-what's going on?"

Ryker was terribly shocked by this sudden turn of events. He forced himself to endure the severe pain in his body.

A bout of golden energy emerged from within his body, engulfing his entire body within.

Under the cover of golden flame, one could clearly see blue veins bulging against Ryker's skin surface. His muscles were trembling, his bones were shaking, and wisps of black smoke were coming out of him!

"Ahhh!"

Ryker cried out in pain and agony. He felt like his whole body was about to be ripped apart. Violent spasms went through him. He had never once imagined that this was how extreme pain would feel. It was truly utter misery, where one could neither live nor die!

A few seconds later, the pain Ryker was feeling subsided.

Everything happened within a few seconds, however, Ryker felt as if he has spent a few hours enduring the torturous pain.
