Nami left to go to Arlong park and Kai decided to have a look around the island. He took off his marine coat and started asking people about what Arlong was doing. He also got them to talk about the marines helping Arlong out. After going around for a few hours he felt that he had enough to send to Smokey. He put his marine coat back on and closed his little notebook he had and walked by an alleyway. He paused.
Inside the alleyway was Arlong threatening Genzo, and Nojiko was talking to Usopp. He walked up to Nojiko and Usopp and waited behind them. Nojiko noticed him but didn't say anything and Usopp had no clue. Eventually Usopp stopped Arlong from killing Genzo and ran away scared. Arlong told his fishmen to kill Usopp. Kai and Nojiko were just standing there doing nothing. Kai offered his arm to Nojiko. "Would you like me to walk you home? This island is going to be in an uproar soon, after all." Nojiko giggled a bit at his antics before she asked.
"What do you mean about the island being in an uproar.?" Kai laughed and said, "You're sister made some good friends. The kind who wouldn't let someone bully one of them." Nojiko had a complicated look on her face. "Do you know how strong fishmen are? Can they really do it?"
Kai chuckled. "Wanna bet?" Nojiko shook her head. She didn't want to bet on her sister's friends dying, plus she didn't like his tone. It was as if he knew for a fact that he would win. They arrived at her house and Kai said. "Good choice you would have lost." He turned around and walked in the direction of Nami.
Nojiko watched him leave and smiled to herself. She had a good feeling. She walked inside the house still thinking about Kai. Kai on the other hand had just arrived at Nami 'killing' Usopp. He walked up to her as she was leaving. "Alright let's go."
"Hm? Go where?"
"To get you stitched up. Were you just gonna leave your wound open?"
"Did you do that on purpose?" Kai smiled. "Do what?" He asked feigning ignorance as he let her lead the way to Arlong Park. He was in his marine uniform so they wouldn't care if he was there. They walked in and Kai recognised a few fishmen, mainly Hachi. He and Nami got into the medical room and he stiched her up. "Thank you." Nami said softly. Kai waved her off. "You already did the same for me."
"Not just this. But for everything. You saved my mom's life and you have been helping me all day." Kai just smiled. "I don't recall saving anyone. I just returned the favour for letting a poor and lonely boy not spend the night on the streets." Nami was about to retort that he paid for a year's worth of three lives to Arlong. What poor boy? However, she held her tongue. She had a huge smile on her face this time. "Thanks."
Kai just nodded. "Don't worry about it." He finally finished up when he saw a marine ship approaching in the distance. He let her go home and stayed for a bit. He saw Hachi again and asked him. "Why are you still here?"
Hachi looked confused and pointed at himself 6 times with all of his hands causing Kai to choke. "Yeah, you. Sorry for the confusion."
"I'm here for Arlong." Kai lit a cigarette and hmm'd. Hachi was confused as to what was going on until Kai said. "That's it? Is that also your defense for tormenting like 10 islands worth of people?" Hachi tilted his head confused. "You're not even going to play the slave card? The race card?" Hachi understood now, but he just said. "No. I'm just here because of Arlong. I follow him." This got Kai to hmm again. "I see." was all he said as he walked away.
This led Hachi to think about what he was doing. Then he heard one more thing. "You guys have become the thing you hate the most. You're just like those bastard dragons." Hachi turned to the voice only to not see anyone there anymore. "Maybe you're right." Hachi questioned his own actions. He never wanted to act like the dragons, he just wanted to follow Arlong.
Kai walked toward the marine ship after he just shook Hachi's entire worldview. He knew Hachi was a good guy at heart, but he never understood how he could just let Arlong do those things. Now he had his answer. Hachi was just absolutely loyal to Arlong. He never questioned his orders and never considered what he was doing.
Kai took a long drag of his cigarette, finishing it before he threw it onto the ship he had just got too. He used the air to build the fire at an impossible speed and let the boat burn. He waited for a bit before everything on the boat was either ashes or had fallen into the ocean. He looked at the one thing left of the boat and smiled a bit.
He grabbed the seastone with a glove on and walked away whistling. He had kept a bit of extra first aid supplies for what was to come. He kept up the tune and walked towards where Nami was. (Btw when he does stuff like this it's because of his fruit and kenbunshoku haki, he can easily scan the full island so he knows what's going on if he wants to. He does still have to actively use it to know whats happening, [that's my cop out for when I forget this and he misses something])
Kai saw Nami stabbing her tattoo on her arm over and over again, he flinched at the sight. He stopped whistling and lit a cigarette. Using the air to form a bubble around the rain to stop it from putting out his cigarette. He looked over at Luffy beside him and pushed him forward, nodding at him. Luffy had a serious face and nodded back.
Luffy walked towards Nami and caught her hand. "Please, save me Luffy." Luffy put his hat on her head and smiled at her. "That's what I was waiting for!" He walked away and yelled. "Arlong! I'm coming to kick your ass!" Kai had a small smile on his face. "Good." He muttered before walking up to Nami. "We have to stop running into each other like this." He said as he took out the first aid kid and tended to her wounds. Nami laughed through her tears as she let Kai tend to her.
After he finished he stood up and took out his den den mushi. "Smokerrr! It's been so long! Did you miss me? I know you did. Anyway there is this rat marine. No, I mean he really looks like a rat! It's really gross! Anyway he did…" Kai explained what Nezumi did and told Smoker what he had written in this book from all the villagers. "...What a bad marine right?" Nami muttered from the floor. "You're sailing with pirates!" Kai looked at her confused. "So?"
Nami shook her head, he was actually the most reliable marine she had ever met but she would never tell him that. She peeked into his notebook about the villagers' testimonies and realized what he had been doing all day. She also noticed that he had done this before as there were a lot of full pages. Also she had seen him put away the Kuro pirates after they had beat them and heard from Luffy and Zoro that he made sure Captain Morgan went to jail. She was glad he was one of the good ones.
"Anything else Fujin? Also, how have you caught more marines than pirates?" Smoker asked. "Maybe that says something about the marines and their bullshit justice. Ironic how the pirates are the good guys here isn't it?" Kai quipped. Smoker was silent. He felt like he touched on something he shouldn't have. He also considered Kai's words. Nami gasped when she heard Kai before a smile formed on her face.
"Sorry Smokey. You're one of the good ones. I've just seen a lot of shit that pisses me off today. I had to stitch up this cute little girl twice today because of some asshat. I'll call you back in about an hour. Be ready for some new bounties in the east blue, and the end of the Arlong pirates *click*" Kai hung up and took a long drag from his cigarette. He took a second to change back from business mode.
He bent down and offered a hand to Nami. "Doth thou needth a hand milady?" He tipped a fedora that appeared out of nowhere and Nami smiled and took his hand. "Thank you kind sire." Kai chucked a bit and walked toward Arlong park with Nami. "I hear there is a brilliant play in theaters today. Something about a pirate fight and your village finally being free." Nami teared up a bit. "Thank you." before she wiped them and continued the act.
"I heard that one of the actors had a scandal going on. He was colluding with the marines. I hope he gets fired today! I can't stand actors like that." Kai chucked. "I think he will end up more than just jobless today. I bet he'll end up paying for his crimes. I actually heard that the very best marine is here today to arrest him after the play's over." They continued walking while talking about the upcoming fight until they finally arrived.
Kai let go of Nami's arm as he went to open the door. "I don't want the love cook to kill me." Nami giggled. Kai opened the doors and the two of them walked in to see the fight just starting. Kai noticed the marines were still on the island. They were looking for their boat that mysteriously disappeared and they decided to come ask Arlong about it. Nami looked at Kai as she heard them talking about their missing boat. He said. "Who knew that cigarette butts were a fire hazard? I didn't." Nami started laughing as the marines who had tormented her were stuck on the island with a pissed off Smoker ready to arrest them.
The fight was a lot easier as Hachi opted to not fight at all. He actually came up to Nami to apologize. When Nami saw this she took out her pole and got ready to fight. But, Kai put his hand out. Hachi bowed his head. "I'm sorry for everything that we did. I know this doesn't help now or make it ok but I just realized what we were doing was wrong. We became the thing we hated the most. We were wrong. I am sorry."
Nami was confused and thought about it before she said. "Thank you for the apology, but I cannot forgive you." Hachi nodded. "I understand. I don't expect forgiveness for what I did." Hachi looked up at Kai and said "Thank you for helping me realize what I was doing was wrong." Kai just nodded and said. "You helped someone I look up to once. Now get out of here before the marines come. Hachi nodded and said "Thanks." before leaving.
Luffy was the only one still fighting as Arlong wasn't going down without a fight. Kai watched as Luffy yelled "Gomu gomu no stamp!" As he kicked Arlong through Arlong park destroying this. Kai smiled and Nami cried. He patted her shoulder as Luffy turned to look at the two and laughed. "Shishishi, Now you can come with us, right?"
Nami started nodding as tears were still falling down her face. Zoro smirked and face planted from blood-loss while Sanji walked by him and picked him up walking towards the rest. "Get up mosshead! This is Nami-swans big moment!" Sanji yelled as he let go of Zoro who stood back up with a smirk still on his face. Kai walked up and tied Arlong up as he picked up his den den mushi. "Hey smokey. You'll never guess what happened."
"The Arlong pirates were defeated."
"What the fuck Smokey! How did you know that?"
"Because you already told me!"
"Oh right. Way to ruin the fun, me. Anyway I have Arlong tied up right here and I have some new pirates I just found. Like just now. Never seen them before."
"Bullshit."
"Hey guys! Who wants a bounty?" Zoro, Sanji and Luffy all shot up and yelled """Me!""" while Nami and Usopp tried to run away and hide. Kai pulled out a snail camera and told everyone to pose. Zoro had his scar from Mihawk, which was still bleeding as he crossed his arms with a huge grin on his face. He looked like a demon. Luffy had a huge smile on his face and a thumbs up with his hat on. But Kai suddenly had an idea.
He grabbed Luffy and took a selfie with him. He threw out the other picture and kept this one. Sanji got in pose and lit a cigarette for the picture. Kai took one then put the snail away. As he was walking towards everyone to show them there bounties he 'accidently' used the wrong hand to take his cigarette out of his mouth and one of the bounties burned up. "Oops. My bad love cook." He shrugged and kept walking as Sanji yelled at him.
"What the fuck mask boy? Go take another one!" Kai looked at him for a sec before shaking his head. "Nah. Too much work." Sanji had a vein pop on his forehead. "What do you mean too much work? You lazy bastard!" Kai kept walking past him and whispered just loud enough for only Sanji to hear. "You sure you want your face in a newspaper kid?" Sanji went stiff and calmed down. He took a long drag of his cigarette and muttered. "Thanks."
"Alright Smokey I got two pictures. What were your names again?"
"I'm Monkey D. Luffy and I'm going to be the pirate king."
"Zoro."
"And what's your pirate groups name?"
"The straw hat pirates."
"Sorry Smokey, they just won't tell me anything."
""THEY/WE JUST TOLD YOU EVERYTHING!"" Both Smoker and Luffy yelled at Kai. Who just chucked and shook his head. "Jeez, some people just can't take a joke." Kai told Smoker the real information before hanging up. He then walked up to Arlong tied up and put out his cigarette on his skin and slapped him awake.
"Yo fishsticks. I'll do you one big favour and keep the fact that your an escaped slave a secret. But you're going to rot in Impel down for the rest of your life. If Jimbe complains I'll send you to the dragons again. You choose."
"Impel Down." Arlong chose without hesitation. "Yeah, that's what I thought." Kai turned to see the crew staring at him with frowns and serious expressions. "Why are you showing him mercy?" Asked Nami in a serious voice. Arlong smirked at the clueless little girl before Kai kicked him in the face. "Shut it fishsticks. I'm on my last string right now. I might really let it slip to Smokey if you don't play nice."
Kai sighed and took out another cigarette. He took a long drag before he looked at the crew. "There are 6 seas on this earth. You guys have collectively been to two of them, and in each sea there are hundreds, maybe thousands of islands. Maybe even more. There is a lot you don't know. Remember that. However the worst place in all of the seas is only one place. Fishsticks former residence. You have no idea how fucked up this world is. You have seen a small portion of it. The darkness runs deeper than you could ever imagine. Even the corrupt marines you have met are saints compared to some other marines. One of the admirals has even killed possibly millions of civilians in the name of justice and has been rewarded for it. However, almost all of that pales in comparison to the slaves. They have it the worst. Think of anything bad that could possibly happen to a person. That does happen. Slavery is the worst thing in this world and certain people are allowed and even praised for their poor treatment of slaves. It is a fate worse than death. It would be a mercy to kill fish sticks here instead of sending him back to that place. So Nami, if you want to kill Arlong here, I won't stop you, but I won't let you send him back to hell. No one deserves that."
Everyone was shocked at this speech. Nami was thinking about whether to kill Arlong or not but decided not to. "Send him to prison." Kai nodded and Arlong didn't dare say a word. Nami started contemplating. She remembered the scars all over Kai's body and had a thought. "You're wrong Tangerine." Kai said as he noticed Nami's train of thinking. Nami was startled but just nodded leaving everyone else confused, but Nami wouldn't tell them even if they asked.
Hey guys! Some serious stuff happened in this chapter! Not every chapter can be pure comedy gold. What do you guys think? Did I hand it well? I'm trying to take these things seriously while also keeping the book overall happy and lighthearted. How was it? If I did this wrong please let me know.
