Chapter 66: The Best Thing...

________

Garp was unsatisfied with the fight, so he charged at a fleeting Max, the brat had shown him something that he hadn't felt in a while.

A sense of defeat, and now the young brat was about to leave? There was no chance he would allow that, not before the brat took another one of his punches, at least this way he would feel satisfied with his work.

While mid-air he couldn't hit Max, on the ground it was a whole other deal, and also just one punch with Garp's whole power behind it had made him blackout and flow above the clouds. Another one would leave the newly made Vice-Admiral unconscious.

**

"Where do you think you are going?" Garp's voice sounded behind him. That was a scary thing to hear so close.

The old man's fist darkened as it was imbued with an ungodly amount of Haki that would cause internal destruction to anyone it touched.

Due to Garp's fast leap, Max knew he wouldn't be able to dodge it and got ready for round two.

He crosses his arms to block the attack and uses his own Armament Haki to defend against Garp's punch.

But that didn't come to pass as a golden light got between both of them and a giant golden man pointed his palms at the both of them.

<Shockwave>

Booom!!

Both of then slammed into the ground, both were iniured and even Max spewed out blood too as his organs felt like they were about to burst. Garp seemed to have defended a split second before the hit, but due to the sudden attack, he hadn't done so too well.

Max and Garp looked at their attacker maliciously, they were going to kill him. But those feelings flew out of the wondow once they saw who it was.

"Stop fighting like kids!" Yelled out Sengoku.

____

-Max POV-

As I looked at the giant golden statue-like man, I knew that he was Sengoku and the attack he delivered right now was something even my defenses wouldn't be able to handle. Two more of these attacks, I will be down for the count, three more and I will be dead.

Normally I would be able to take on more, but Garp's punch had done a lot more damage than it showed outwardly.

"Stop this fight," said Sengoku again. He looked at me. "Go back to your ship, and don't do anything stupid."

That was what I needed, permission to leave.

This was why when I noticed Garp in the Fleet Admiral's office, I knew it was my chance and I took it.

These people's morals and goals were unknown, but Garp was for sure someone who wouldn't play their games and would do whatever he wanted. I knew he would attack me as soon as I said something that would offend him. That was just the kind of man he was.

"Thanks," I said while looking at Garp and made the man smirk a little… wait… did he know why I incited him and he went along with it? This seemed to confuse Sengoku too. Well, saying anymore would be useless so I went back toward my ship.

Still, that feeling of curiosity was something I had to suppress. Was Garp as straightforward as he always made himself seem? Was he smart and noticed my uneasiness at the meeting?

Now it made me doubt just how simple minded the old man was.

***

My mind was preoccupied with those thoughts till I reached my ship and saw Negan tied up with Seastone Chains and Raynare frowning at him.

Once she saw me a relieved look appeared on her face. "Max, are you okay?"

"Yeah, why?" She knew the plan, so there was no reason for her to be worried and although the plan didn't exactly go to play. With Garp there I took the easier way. So in the general gist of things, it went better than expected.

Though the question still stood if Garp saw my predicament and went along, actually… Did he even go all out?

These things I was sure about during the fight have become questions with no one to answer.

"Also what's up with him?" I pointed at the chained Negan.

Raynare sighed in annoyance. "This guy just unlocked his Observation Haki and could sense that you were fighting someone. Who would have thought someone like him had any talent in Observation Haki."

Well, I doubted with Negan's rash personality he would have any talent in that specific category of haki, but the Lighting Devil Fruit was perfect for Observation Haki and strengthened it to an immeasurable level. "Negan, you know that during these students you must keep a calm head."

I had given him the Lighting Devil Fruit after killing off Enel. I trusted him with such a strong Logia, plus he had the potential to bring out its full power.

He nodded at my warning but Negan also seemed sure of what he had done. "Yes, I am glad that you returned without injury. But Boss-man, I heard something worrying."

Right, his new Devil Fruit also gave him the ability to listen to people like with his radio waves. The range would be about as far as his Observation Haki, and the range would be enhanced by the Devil fruit too. "What did you hear?"

"It was a little unclear as there were thousands of voices speaking at once and it confused me, but for some reason, some people were speaking of having you get killed in the New World," he then looked down in shame. "Sorry… I couldn't hear what they were talking about and their voices were very jumbled. I wanted to go and kill them off... sorry for not thinking that through."

"Xahahaha~ there is no need to worry~" I jumped on the ship and landed next to him and slapped him in the back. Which caused him to slump forward due to being weakened by the Seastone chains restraining him.

"I expect you to be reckless and psychotic, there is no need for you to change." Seeing him act apologetically like this wasn't something I was used to, and there truly was no need for him to act cautiously.

That was why there was Raynare, she would be the cautious one, and keep an eye on him when I wasn't around. "Well, we will still go to the New World and just wait and see what they do. Staying on this side of the world just because of their threats would just lead to us growing complacent as there wasn't any pirate in Paradise that would be able to pose a challenge to us."

Raynare seemed reluctant at this since she didn't like me being in danger, but she too knew that if we stayed here, sooner or later our decisions would catch up with us.

In the countries I have taken over and put puppet rulers on, the World Government had already noticed such things. Also, Sharlia will have to move back to Mariejois and get a position of power, even amongst World Nobles there were statuses with more power amongst them like the Five Elders and such.

From now on I will be playing with the big leagues which includes the Yonko, and their subordinates.

As a Vice-Admiral now I have a lot more power and authority, with it came responsibility also, but that wasn't worth any thought over, because unlike the others the Marines had one general rule… might makes right. Sure that was the rule of the world and some would even refute it and say that marines, especially those of high rank needed to be someone worthy of the title, and power wasn't all there was to it.

But they would be wrong, Fujitora was the best example of this.

Power was the answer to everything, and if it seemed like it wasn't, then it meant that you didn't have enough of it.

Sharlia suddenly came and leaned on my shoulder, we would be separating and she had to go back to her old boring life.

"When I become the person with the most influence in the world... I will call you back and spend the rest of our lives together," she whispered.

I chuckled at her words. "That sounds like either a marriage or a slave contract."

"Well, if you refuse to marry me in the future then I will take you as a slave," she said jokingly.

"Be careful though, the last time you tried something like that you got kidnapped," I replied and ruffled her hair. "Also don't forget, if you ever find yourself in a troublesome situation, just call us."

She pouted and walked off the ship. A small army of marines would escort her back. But suddenly she stopped midway through the ramp and turned toward me, gazing straight into my eyes.

"Max!" she yelled out, "You kidnaping-... I mean you escorting me was the best thing that happened in my life!"

I only smiled and waved at her, Sharlia might have been conceited and arrogant but she grew to become someone who I would call a friend.
