Chapter 1INTRO

My name is Alan James. I'm 21 years old, and I work as a salesman in a textile store here in Kochi, Kerala. It's a decent job, nothing fancy, but it pays the bills. I've always been a bit of a dreamer, so when I'm not dealing with fabrics and customers, you can usually find me glued to a screen, lost in the worlds of movies and series. They're my escape, my way of stepping out of the ordinary and into the extraordinary, if only for a few hours.

Being an only child, I guess I've always had to find ways to entertain myself. My parents are great, don't get me wrong, but there's a certain kind of solitude that comes with being the only kid in the house. It's like having the world all to yourself but also having no one to share it with. Movies and series fill that void for me, giving me stories and characters that feel almost like friends.

Kochi is a vibrant city, a mix of old-world charm and modern hustle. I've lived here my whole life, and it's home in every sense of the word. There's a rhythm to the city, a beat that I've grown accustomed to, from the bustling markets to the serene backwaters. My job at the textile store keeps me in touch with a variety of people, each with their own story. It's interesting, seeing the diversity of life through the lens of fabric choices and fashion preferences.

Life's pretty simple otherwise. I get up, go to work, come back, and lose myself in another cinematic adventure. There's a routine to it all, a predictability that's both comforting and stifling. Sometimes I wonder if there's more out there for me, something beyond the predictable pattern of my days. But then I think about the stories I love so much, the heroes and adventures, and I tell myself that maybe, just maybe, my own story is still unfolding. For now, I'm content with my small corner of the world, dreaming of bigger things and finding joy in the little moments.

Third Person POV

Alan was making his way back home, his mind wandering through the vast catalog of shows he had yet to explore. Having just finished the US version of "The Office," he felt a familiar pang of melancholy that always accompanied the end of a beloved series. He wondered what could possibly fill the void left by the quirky antics of Michael Scott and the rest of the Dunder Mifflin crew. "Maybe 'Parks and Recreation' or 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine'?" he mused, mentally scrolling through the recommendations his friends had given him.

The evening air was warm and thick with the scent of jasmine, typical of a Kochi night. The streets were alive with the sounds of the city settling down for the night: the distant honking of horns, the chatter of neighbors, and the occasional bark of a stray dog. Alan walked along the familiar path, his thoughts a comforting distraction from the mundane reality of his day.

Suddenly, the tranquility was shattered by the sharp screeching of tires. Alan barely had time to register the sound before everything went black. The world around him seemed to vanish in an instant, replaced by a deep, unsettling void.

When Alan came to, he was lying on the ground, the rough texture of the pavement pressing against his back. His head throbbed painfully, and his vision was blurred. He could hear voices, distant and muffled, as if they were coming from underwater. Gradually, the world began to come back into focus. He could see a small crowd gathering around him, their faces etched with concern and curiosity.

Someone was speaking to him, asking if he was okay, but the words were lost in the haze of his disorientation. Alan tried to sit up, but a wave of dizziness forced him back down. He closed his eyes, trying to steady himself, and when he opened them again, he saw a pair of worried eyes staring down at him.

"Are you alright? Can you hear me?" the voice asked urgently.

Alan nodded weakly, trying to piece together what had happened. The screeching tires, the sudden impact—it all came flooding back in a disjointed rush. He had been hit by a car, or at least grazed by one. The realization sent a shiver down his spine.

"Just lie still, help is on the way," the voice continued, trying to keep him calm.

As he lay there, surrounded by concerned strangers, Alan's thoughts drifted back to the comforting familiarity of his favorite shows. He found himself longing for the simple problems of fictional characters, the predictability of scripted drama, and the safety of his couch. Reality, it seemed, was far more unpredictable and unforgiving.
