Sin of The Weak

"Visiting Lucifer? You don't mean an invasion, do you?" Seraphile finally tore his eyes from his corpse and stared at Michael dumbfounded.

He was aware of what his death caused. It became the gasoline to an already lit bonfire, causing it to engulf the whole area and turn into an unstoppable firestorm.

Seraphile had the naive thought that now that he was back in one form or another, the enmity between them would cease, or at least decrease it down a notch but it seems he was too naive.

But to think Michael openly proposed an invasion to hell, a proposal that directly went against the very nature of Seraphile.

He stared at Michael pleadingly, trying to squeeze out the 'It's a joke!' line but to no avail.

His brother has been a serious man ever since he opened his eyes. Seraphile knew that he never joked when he was alive, and certainly not after his death.

He did not return his stare and looked through the window.

"I know that you are despairing over my proposal but let me get this clear.

This is not a proposal. It is a decision and it would have happened with or without you.

It has been a couple of centuries since the last all-out battle between us angels and demons. Both sides had slowly accumulated troops and power during the wait.

However, it cannot be delayed. Ever since your death, humanity has been corrupted by their desires.

When you were still present as an angel, watching over humans as per the responsibility that your title, your nature, humans were relatively decent beings.

Even then, humanity was prone to succumb to their desires.

In times of desperation, they would kill each other, ravage sacred forests, and steal from other races. I am not one to talk but at least it was understandable why they did it.

They are weak, dare I say the weakest in existence. Weak resort to foul tricks to survive and that is known pretty well.

We hated this side of them and I am sure you had a certain dislike too. That is why we sought to guide them, to become better, to gain strength, and to become like us.

The different existence layers prevented us from directly interfering but we did our best. One way we found out was to give up a piece of our strength and bestow it upon them.

Depending on the nature of the person in question and the angel who chooses to bless such a person, the success varies.

If a human resembled Uriel with their cold sense of justice, then she would be able to bless them.

This method of ours allowed us to preserve the good ones, the ones that had their morals, goals, and dreams.

Over time, they grew fascinated with us, idolized us, and worshipped us as their gods.

As their faith in us grew, we found a way to harness it.

Manifesting on the mortal world of Gaia using the faith of the people as vessels. We found a way to incarnate."

Seraphile gulped. Although he appreciated his siblings trying to rehabilitate humanity, being worshipped as gods by humans ticked him off.

"What do you mean humans idolized you? We are still sibling races! We are not meant to exploit each other!" he roared in frustration.

"Let me speak first." Michael continued.

"I want to explain what I saw when I incarnated there." Michael closed his eyes and continued.

"Thanks to the blessings our patrons blessed them with, humans survived the initial stages of their development.

Their pitiable affinity to the elements meant nothing on its own. All it does is make their mediocre imitation of elemental magic slightly easier but in rare circumstances, it stacks up and creates a human lord.

Thanks to the existence of such lords, humanity occupied a small corner of the world and settled there.

Their individual weakness meant that they would have to compensate with their numbers so they reproduced like goblins. Such reproduction meant that the chance for a lord to spawn would be higher as well.

A spike in population growth meant that they would need a reliable way to sustain their people and they did many heinous things to do so.

Some foolish ones went and poked a dragon in the eye, literally, causing the destruction of a whole mountain range.

Some others exploited the kindness of certain magic beasts and nature spirits, enraging them.

Others defiled sacred forests and stole fruits and berries meant to feed other species.

Some races are perfectly fine with just surviving but not humans. They wanted not just to survive but to thrive. Personally, I sympathize with them. Humans had nothing so they wanted everything. I can understand that. The virtue of the weak is their undying resolve to live.

But the problem was the sin of the weak. The existence of us, superior beings, gave them the idea that they were insignificant and that their actions had little to no consequences.

After all, they are just a speck of dust to us. What can they do?"

Seraphile felt worse and worse as Michael's speech went on. When he was still an angel, humans scavenged for scraps and seeds but they were content. He taught them to find solace in each other by being kind and making connections.

They were born like that and nothing could change it. Seraphile did everything in his power to make their lives better before the creation of heaven.

The story of their corruption wrecked his heart and his horn grew a little bit longer.

"Since they are so insignificant, who would care if they just went ahead and raped each other? Killed each other? Stole each other's property and claim it as their own?

Do you see my point? Humans are being corrupted and demons gain strength the more humans grow their populations.

For every angel born out of the wheel of reincarnation, a dozen demons are born.

This gap increases every year.

We have to act soon. If things go on like this, demons will inevitably surpass the angels.

Excepting the first time that Lucifer invaded heaven, no other demons dared to follow his footsteps.

The resulting wars were all invasions from us and this time is no exception.

We are heading out next week. Whether or not you would join, decide that yourself."

Try my other novel while waiting for the new chapters. The beginning is not as bad as the beginning of this novel so I can say you won't be disappointed if you stuck with this novel to this point.
