Chapter 25 : Sew It Begins

Ren and Itachi were now in the Hokage chamber taking another mission. This time, it was a C-rank, unlike the regular D-ranks they had been doing.

Minato listed a set of available C ranks, though two or three of them were labelled urgent.

Urgent missions are the ones which need to be started immediately, like the river cleaning quest he had gotten, which needed to be done quickly or the trash would have flown deeper and tainted other streams.

One of those was a bandit extermination mission and the other was protection from bandit mission.

Itachi took the protection from bandit missions as Urgent missions gave more money than normal missions.

"I'll take this Hokage-sama" Itachi showed his choice to Minato who didn't have any problem with it and agreed.

The mission was to protect a new business from bandits for five days. It seems that after the violence in the Port City, the foreign merchant transactions in that port almost dropped to nill.

Therefore, there has been an upsurge in the local businesses that were waiting to take over the market.

The business they were going to protect was also one of them and was situated near the coast.

"Okay, You can leave," Minato said as Iruka put the seal on the mission notice and let Itachi and Ren leave the building. Though as they left the room, they encountered another person.

'Ugh,' Ren held his nose as he smelt the deep stench of alcohol from the man. He held a bottle of alcohol in his hand and had a large bag on his back.

The man gave a cursory glance at them and walked away, probably to the Hokage chamber.

"Hn, now that we are leaving, have packed everything?" asked Itachi as he looked at Ren.

"Yup, have them sealed in the scrolls" Ren nodded his head and showed his scrolls.

"Then we'll leave right now."

With that said, Ren was again on the road to their mission, though in between the journey, Itachi asked something that made Ren almost topple.

"What do you think of the Konaha Village?"

"Ugh..It's good?" Ren replied not knowing how to answer that question. He might be calm and collected most of the time and have an Iron will. But he was still a kid.

'I see, it is still too early' thought Itachi, Contrary to being dissatisfied he was glad that Ren still retained at least some bits of innocence left.

Though it would be detrimental for a shinobi to maintain naivety, it was fine for now he supposed. After all, there wasn't a war looming over them or something.

So Itachi then asked the next question he had been pondering since the start of the mission.

"Why are you still knitting?" Ren had taken out his knitting set when they started the journey and had not left the needle since then.

"this... I felt bored." Ren admitted, which was true as knitting was one of the ways to both train and waste time.

He had poured in hours to even get the hang of it. Especially the 'casting' part in which they had to make a knot to begin the knitting, was a bit awkward.

But he wasn't the one to give up easily and persisted till he got the hang of it.

"-I am still concentrating on the surroundings through chakra sense" Ren added quickly not to seem that he had let his guard down.

Itachi, who already knew, simply 'hn'ed though he had another question for Ren. Seeing that the time was right, and they had a lot of time.

"When did you learn that you are a natural sensor?" Asked Itachi as he hadn't seen Ren ever perform a seal or a jutsu to mould his chakra into sensory chakra.

"Two weeks after I graduated" That was the time Ren had gone into a trance.

"Hn" That explained to Itachi why Ren's sensor abilities were not specified in Indo Abe's report.

****** ° ° ° ****** ° ° ° two days later ° ° ° ****** ° ° ° ******

"Kozumaru-san, we are the Konoha ninja that you have hired." Ren introduced himself to a young man in his mid-twenties.

Kozumaru was sitting on a chair inside his textile shop. The building looked fairly new, and the board was also very big and colourful.

"Shinobi-san!? You are a bit earlier than expected." said the man as he got off his seat and greeted them, politely.

"Are there only two of you?" Asked Kozumaru as usually the shinobi operated in a four-man team.

"Yes. Only us two." The man to this answer just shrugged. Quality over quantity.

"I want you to protect this shop from Thugs who have been harassing the other shops." Said Kozumaru, as he showed them around the small building.

"They have been collecting 'protection fee' from us for a long time.. But now that trade has increased, they are raising the fee to absurd amounts." Kozumaru rubbed his forefinger and thumb to indicate the money.

"I don't want you to kill them, just intimidate them a little" Kozumaru added as an afterthought.

Though this confused Ren a little. " Shouldn't that make them attack you when we leave?"

To which Kozumaru just shook his head. "They aren't all that bad, they protect us from thugs from other places. All over these years they haven't killed any villagers or assaulted them."

"Though they started acting menacing after Port City got doomed. They are just a group of unemployed people who have no other way to live. Just scare them a little, and they'll leave me alone." said Kozumaru as he finished the mini tour of the shop.

"You can stay in the unused storage room of this shop for five days." Kozumaru pointed at the small room present in the shop.

****** ° ° ° ****** ° ° ° At another place( same time ) ° ° ° ****** ° ° ° ******

"You failed!? I paid you guys a lot of money because I heard you were very strong former ninjas." A shaggy brown-haired man, who was wearing a small circular glass, roared as he pointed his hands at another person.

*swish*

However, that person didn't take kindly to it and pointed his very big long sword at him.

That person had a bandage which covered the lower half of his face. He wore a kirigakure headband sideways, which didn't cover his spiky short black hair.

"Stop your bitching, Gato. This time I'll go with this Kubikiribocho.." each of his words weighed down heavily on Gato, who still had the head cleaver sword pointed at his head.

"...And Kill them" Though he said this Gato was not convinced.

"Are you sure.. It seems has hired some skilled ninjas and with the failure of the demon brothers they'll be better prepared.."

"Who do you think I am there is a reason, I am called the Demon of the Mist... Momochi Zabuza." with that said, Zabuza held back his sword and then got up from his seat.

And following him, another slender masked figure went after Zabuza.

Gato after making sure that Zabuza left called out his Right-hand man.

"Dhogu, how is the collection going?"

To which a big brawny man came in front of Gato and kneeled on one leg. " We are extorting the local gangs. They'll have no chance but to join us"

To which Gato gave a nasty broad smile. "Good. The only business they should do is with me"

"Drain them even more... and send some good ones to my room" With that last word, Gato went to his luxurious room with a lecherous smile, leaving behind his right-hand man Dhogu to carry out his tasks.

How was the chapter? The canon timeline begins, though I will not stick to canon like some reincarnator. Let's see what happens, shall we? I am still busy so I will update when I can.
