"Girl, I'm telling you he's so annoying. He's really good looking but he gets on my nerves, that sometimes i just want to strangle him to death," Vanessa lay on top of her bed, with her head facing the outer part while her leg was on top of the headboard.
She was on call with her best friend, and was she talking about Miguel? Definitely, it had come to her notice that there's no way she would actually defeat him, without the help of her best friend Lisa who was a mini me of her.
"With the way you are saying this, it sure sounds as if you are into him. Babe, you sure you ain't crushing on him?"
What she didn't see next was Lisa sounding more like, she was loving the idea of Miguel and her having feelings for each other, cause what the hell?!
That's totally impossible, she would rather remain single than to be with the likes of him. She's only describing him better for her, but..
You did say that he's good looking, didn't you?
She paused when she realized that the fault was from her, but she had bluntly described him in one go and made him look so exquisite in the eyes of Lisa.
"Heck! No Lisa, I don't find him attractive. He's just.." she paused, her head not working cognitively to look for a more deserving word to explain Miguel.
"Girl, calm down. I get it okay, he's gorgeously handsome but i would warn you to not think of doing what you want to do. He's a bodyguard, your dad would kill him and you know that."Lisa added, making things more complicated by giving the impression that she liked Miguel.
"You are the one who's confused girl. I don't like Miguel, i don't settle for less and he is nothing but a pest that is sent to haunt my peaceful life."
"He's there to keep you safe, you said that he was once in the army. Good riddance, I bet he's so muscular and…"
"Lisa please, Jesus!" Vanessa touched her temple, so much for trying to tell such a flirt like Lisa about her new bodyguard.
Anyway, she knew that this was supposed to be the outcome but what's important is that she knew the truth, and that is she's not attracted to that nutcase.
He's just her bodyguard, just like Lisa just said nothing more, nothing less!
"So, when exactly do you plan on coming back to the state?" Vanessa changed the topic, she was done with her lecturing her about her unseen feelings for Miguel.
"Don't know yet sweetheart, I still have a lot to wrap up here. Mom has been on neck to come back, which you knew it's specifically because she has this blind date, she's eager for me to meet this special person."
"That's so lovely, unlike my dad who's not planning on hosting a welcome back party for me." Vanessa pouted her lips, at the memory of what had been her father's reaction at her demanding that he throws a party for her.
"You know it's because of your safety, V."Lisa reminded her.
"Yeah i know, same talk every day, chill out I'm cool." She sat up on her bed, feeling the need to drink water. Jane was not in sight for her request for a drink, that's until she remembered that she was off for this whole week courtesy of her dad.
"I gotta go, I will call you later huni. Take care of yourself okay?" She heard Lisa say something to someone over the background, she has a visitor.
With her standing up from her bed, she put on her flip flops," you too, love you." With that, she ended the call, and dropped her phone on her bed stand.
When she came out of her room, she noticed that the guys that were always standing guard in front of her door weren't there anymore.
Well, she tackled her dad about that this early morning. With that new found relief, that there was no sight of any guard, nor Miguel playing babysitter to her today.
She went to the kitchen and quenched her thirst, until she heard it. Voices. Someone was arguing.
Not just someone, the voices weren't that audible enough to her hearing, but when she heard the sound of something breaking. She acted fastly and followed the sound of where the noise was coming from.
Vanessa thought that it was probably her dad having an argument with his men, she knew that he had such a foul attitude when he's annoyed.
But the closer she got to the sitting room, she felt an eerie feeling taking over her entire being. The hair on her body stood at attention, Goosebumps were all arms.
"What is this?" She asked herself, her arms were wrapped around her. Her guts told her not to step closer to the sitting room, but had she been one to ever listen to her guts.
So, she did what she wanted to do in the first place, she pushed the door wide open and walked in to find the most shocking thing ever, that not even human science could prove the reason why it had to exist in the first place.
"Adrik!!" She shouted, seeing her brother who had his hands wrapped around the throat of some female with red shot eyes, struggling beneath him.
She noticed the way his body tensed at hearing his name, and before her very eyes the female under him vanished right in front of her.
That's..not real.
It can't be real.
Her mind went into denial, a surge of protection cradled up her body as she felt her legs, moving back as a sort of defense from what she had seen.
But the moment, Adrik turned around and their eyes locked with each other. She knew that this was no dream, her brother was standing right infront of her.
"Vanessa," She heard him call her, before her knees buckled and she went falling to the ground, with her right hand flying over to cover her mouth from screaming.
The tears didn't waste any minutes to start falling down her pale porcelain skin," You are.. here, h..how?" She stuttered, looking up at him as he took slow careful steps towards her, as a cue to not scare her further.
He stopped in front of her, before he finally bent down to her level. He didn't know what else to say at this moment, because it sure came as a surprise to him that she's back.
His mother's first reaction at seeing him was her passing out, but it seems like all these years that went by had curved his sister into one courageous woman, because she grabbed his hand instantly and they both noticed his talons.
"What are you?" She asked, holding onto his hands as if she knew that he was planning on leaving her." How did you do it? How have you been? Are you still alive, talk to me Adrik?"
She threw plenty of questions at him, that he knew that now wasn't a good time for him to answer, afterall, there's still Sakura that he needed to take care of.
"We will talk later, Nessa, not now," He said, turning to leave, but she held onto him tightly.
"When?" She demanded, he had forgotten so soon how stubborn she could be.
"Tonight, I will come see you tonight. But you have to promise me not to tell Dad that you saw me," Adrik requested to which she nodded frantically.
"Can.. I touch your face?' she requested, she was still finding it a little bit hard to take in that this was her older brother right in front of her.
He looked more young and handsome for someone that was dead, but his eyes did the math to tell her that he wasn't a human. They looked shallow and empty, devoid of human feelings.
He's nothing but a ghost.
When he didn't say anything, her hand moved instantly to cup his cheeks, he thought that was the end to this until she pulled him into a hug.
"I have missed you," she confessed, holding onto him so tightly and shedding tears that contained unsaid words about how lonely life had been without him.
She had been so engulfed by the hug, that she heard the footsteps that came aloud and finally stood when they saw her at the ground.
"What are you doing?" Miguel's annoying voice brought her out of the trance she was in, she jerked at the sound of his voice and looked at him.
But when she looked back at where she knew Adrik was, he was gone. She bursted out into tears which widened Miguel's eyes.
What the heck just happened?
