The door refused to open
In her mind, Cindy floated in a vast emptiness, an all-encompassing darkness that wrapped around her, dense and silent. Every direction she turned looked the same—a void that seemed to go on forever. She reached out instinctively, her hands cutting through the thick, inky air, but there was nothing to grasp, nowhere to gain footing, only the cold sensation of being utterly alone.
As she drifted, a faint glimmer of light flickered somewhere far off, a pinpoint of brightness in the surrounding dark. Cindy's heart leapt, and she fixed her eyes on that glimmer, willing it to stay. Driven by an instinct she couldn't explain, she began to make her way toward it, though she wasn't quite sure how her body moved in this strange, ethereal space.
