"Attention, everyone! The time has elapsed, and we can no longer consider any headband taken. Please direct your attention to the screen for the final results!" Midnight announced as she signaled the end of the cavalry battle.
On the screen appeared the following standings:
1. Team Izuku: 10+ million points
2. Team Shoto: 7520 points
3. Team Bakugo: 6969 points
4. Team Hitoshi: 4200 points
Congratulations to those who qualified for the next round: Izuku Midoriya, Mina Ashido, Itsuka Kendo, Ochaco Uraraka, Shoto Todoroki, Momo Yaoyorozu, Tenya Ida, Denki Kaminari, Katsuki Bakugo, Fumikage Tokoyami, Eijiro Kirishima, Hanta Sero, Hitoshi Shinso, Mashirao Ojiro, Nirengeki Shoda, and Yuga Aoyama.
However, both Mashirao Ojiro and Nirengeki Shoda have decided to withdraw from the next competition, and they will be replaced by Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu and Ibara Shiozaki.
...
While making his way back to the waiting area, Izuku wasn't surprised to find Shoto waiting for him in the tunnel, given the competition's break.
"I had a feeling I'd find you here. What's on your mind, Shoto Todoroki?" Izuku inquired.
Shoto gazed at Izuku and confessed, "You made me use my fire quirk."
Recalling the moment when he had to rely on his flame quirk to protect his team from Izuku's cannon, Shoto felt enraged.
"And what's wrong with that? It's about time you learned to control that fiery power of yours," Izuku retorted, aware of the reason but wanting to hear it from Shoto himself.
"I can't. I don't want to use his quirk. You know who he is, right? My father," Shoto said.
Izuku nodded and replied, "The Number two hero Endeavor. I'm aware of that."
"People only know him as a hero, with fans and admirers. But he isn't a good person. In fact, he's the opposite..." Shoto began to confide in Izuku about his father's mistreatment of his mother, from the forced quirk marriage to the harsh training he endured due to Endeavor's obsession with All Might, the Number one hero. He shared his mother's descent into madness and the emotional scars he carried.
Shoto felt an odd sense of relief as he confided in Izuku. Though they weren't exceptionally close, he always felt safe speaking to him, as if Izuku was a teacher guiding him on the path of right and wrong.
"And that's why I want to become the Number one Hero, using only my mother's side of the quirk. I want him to see that I'm better than him," Shoto declared.
Leaning against the wall, Izuku looked at Shoto and responded, "Foolish..."
Shoto opened his eyes wide and said, "You don't understand. You've never faced something like this."
"Indeed, I haven't. But if I were in your shoes, I'd search for a better solution. Refusing to use your fire quirk is simply unwise. Instead, embrace both sides of your power, master them, and show him the difference between you and him. Make your flames stronger while also wielding the ice to bring balance. Show your father that unlike him, you are better. Master his own quirk of flames, then master your mother's quirk of ice, and finally master life itself. Be better, be happier, and achieve what he couldn't, without resorting to his ways. You shouldn't aim to be Number one just to spite him; that will lead to obsession and failure, mirroring what he went through."
Without waiting for Shoto's response, Izuku walked away to the waiting room. He knew this wouldn't immediately change Shoto's mind, but he hoped it would at least make his life better. Shoto's life was already complicated, and Izuku didn't want to see him suffer any further.
…
After the break, Midnight announced the next competition, as expected, it was a fighting tournament starting from the round of 16. Midnight drew the match-ups live in front of the audience, and the results were as follows:
- Izuku Midoriya Vs Hitoshi Shinso
- Shoto Todoroki Vs Hanta Sero
- Katsuki Bakugo Vs Ochaco Uraraka
- Eijiro Kirishima Vs Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu
- Ibara Shiozaki Vs Denki Kaminari
- Yuga Aoyama Vs Mina Ashido
- Momo Yaoyorozu Vs Tenya Ida
- Fumikage Tokoyami Vs Itsuka Kendo
Upon seeing his opponent, Izuku smiled a bit before turning his attention to the screen. The first match was Shoto Vs Hanta, and he wanted to watch it.
Just like the show, Shoto was angry and managed to overpower Hanta. Izuku knew that the road ahead would be challenging, but he believed he could help Shoto become a good person and a hero. He was already thinking of ways to do that.
While walking toward the arena, Izuku was interrupted by Mashirao, who warned him about Hitoshi. Izuku replied, "Don't worry, Mashirao, I can handle him, but I appreciate the gesture. Thank you."
As Izuku walked to the arena, he stopped and faced Hitoshi. He then looked at Cementoss, who was the referee for the tournament, and heard him shout, "Start!"
Izuku didn't make a move; instead, he waited for Hitoshi.
"Your friend Mashirao was an idiot for throwing away his chance at the tournament," remarked Hitoshi.
Izuku nodded and replied, "I somewhat agree. Despite his failure and being controlled by you, he should have taken this chance. But here we are... Oh, I almost lost to your quirk. Unfortunately for you, I'm the worst opponent the draw could have put you against. It seems you were born under an unlucky star."
Realizing that his quirk was ineffective against Izuku, Hitoshi dropped his head and said, "Maybe you are right. I'm born with a quirk that labels me as a villain, even if I want to be a hero. Unlike you, my quirk is unfit for combat. But who am I telling this to? You would never understand. After all, you were blessed."
Nodding, Izuku responded, "I won't deny it, I am blessed, but that doesn't change your situation. When I first used my quirk, I died, quite literally. My body changed because of it, and I have to train constantly to keep up. I train daily to become the strongest. But what about you? All I see is someone complaining about their unlucky quirk without putting in any effort."
Izuku then kicked Hitoshi in the guts and continued, "Believe me, I know even if you trained a hundred times more than me, you still wouldn't be able to beat me. But did you try it? I'm the greatest alive, but did you even attempt to be the greatest? All you do is complain about your quirk and how unfit for battle it is. Instead, use your muscles and find a different usage for your quirk. Not everyone is a fighter; Hero 13, Ragdoll, and many other heroes are not fit for battle, yet they are some of the best heroes in the world. Why? Because they did something about it. You have disappointed me, Hitoshi, but I can understand why you are like this. I don't know if I'll ever see you again, but if I do, I expect you to be different than this."
Izuku then raised Hitoshi and threw him off the arena, winning his first round.
