Let’s Play!

"Hey. Jason. Wake up."

That voice.

"Jason. I thought you wanted to go to the park today."

Why do I recognize it?

"Your mother and I are ready to go kiddo."

Dad?!

Jason jumps up out of bed. He's big for four years old. As he looks around his room decorated with Shadow Mancer merchandise he sees his father. He tackle hugs his fathers legs almost knocking him down. "Daddy your home!"

Ronny Torr laughs as he picks up his son "Yes I am my boy. Now you need to go get ready so we can go to the park." He sets Jason down who looks around furiously.

"Ok dad!" Young Jason shouts as his dad walks out. Getting dressed rather quickly Jason runs to his mom about five minutes later wearing shorts and a T-shirt. "Mom! Mom! Mom! Daddy's home. He's really home!"

"That's right. Now is my little hero ready to go?" His mom asks bending down and giving him a kiss on the forehead.

"Yes! Yes! Yes! I'm going to the park!" Jason shouts running to the door.

No! Not this again!

"Ok let's go then." His dad says.

Make it stop!

A little later in the car.

"So how's kindergarten Jason?" His dad asks

"I'm learning how to read and to right and to color." Jason says excitedly. "Daddy can you tell me about your hero stuff in California?"

Jason's dad tells him all about how he teamed up with a bunch of hero's in order to bring down a group of villains. He was told about the fights and about the people that were saved. Jason listened in rapt attention for the whole ride.

"Ok boys we're here." Tanya Torr, Jason's mom, says as she pulls into Frontier Park and parks the car.

As soon as the car stopped Jason jumped out and sprinted into the park. His parents laughed "Go Ronny. He's missed you. I'll get the food."

Ronny Torr catches up to his son rather quickly. A four year old can only run so far after all. Russ creates a ball of shadow in his hand. "Catch Jason!" He says as he throws the ball to Jason.

"I got it! I got it!" Jason says as he runs to catch it. The shadow ball bounces harmlessly off of his chest and his the floor. "Awww man." He picks it up and throws as hard as he can to his dad. And the ball lands about five feet away from Jason.

I need to wake up!

Jason's dad laughs and go and grabs the ball. At the same time his mom reaches them with a basket of food. "You guys hungry?"

"Yes!" Both Ronny and Jason say at once.

Please let me wake up!

The Torr family sits down to eat a man is sent soaring through a thicket of trees to the family's right. Rolling to a stop about fifteen feet away from them, the man stands up and Ronny recognizes him "Zip is that you?"

Zip confirms "I could use some help Shadow Mancer. My right arm is broken. This guys got a strength enhancing quirk."

Ronny

looks back at his wife and son "I'll be back once this is done." He runs off shadow enveloping his body.

No no no!

His mom grabs the food and repacks it "Come on Jason. Back to the car."

His mom hurriedly ushers him on to the car. Being that it's not very far away they reach it rather quickly. His mom opens the back hatch to put the food away then gets him in his seat. As soon as she does a man and a tree come flying from the park. Following the man comes a goliath who picks up the shattered tree and thrusts it at the man who dodges adeptly. The tree shatters a bit but is still a decent sized weapon.

"Oh look. More people to crush." The Goliath bellows.

"You leave them alone." Says the man, Jason recognizes him now, who stands in front of the car.

Once more the goliath roars "Get outta my way!" He thrusts the tree forward at an alarming speed.

The car moves the glass explodes.

Jason jolts awake screaming "DAD!"
