Yang Mi stood on one side as Death opened the portal connecting the two realms; the living and the dead.
Looking ahead, she threw a disgusted looked at the dark place as if it was inferior to her greatness.
"Can't the person managing this place do something about this?" Yang Mi said.
Death raised an eyebrow and asked, "What's wrong with this place?"
"The design is too shabby. It lacks the beauty in it." She simply threw the jab, and Death's lips twitched.
What beauty?! This place is Hell! What does she expect this place to be? A scenic place perfect for anyone to take a selfie. Sighing in his heart, Death suddenly pitied a certain horned devil living in this place.
"Well, this place is for punishing the sinned. I doubt Old Lucifer would want to accommodate any humans and be lenient towards them." Death explained. He knew that Yang Mi already knew this fact, but he tried to remind her lest she forgot about it after staying in the Human realm for a long time.
Yang Mi hummed and slowly glanced around. She took in the gruesome and brutal scene playing before her eyes.
Wherever they went, the agonizing screams filled with pain and fear pierced their hearing; it almost deafened their ears. And with the accompanying live torture before them, it was no wonder why these sinners screamed.
On one side, an older man was being barbecued by a pair of red men with tails and horns. These men were just one of the millions that were employed devils tasked to torture humans. On the other side, a woman was being skinned alive.
If it were an ordinary person, anyone would throw up their meal from this morning and even faint after seeing this before them. However, Yang Mi and Death were not new to this, and both of them have seen their fair share of this type of brutality.
Besides, the older man and woman deserved what they're now suffering. From what Yang Mi knew, no one will be sent to Hell unless you've committed a heavy sin while still alive. Even ghost's who sinned after taking their ghost form had to be careful because no one knows when Lucifer would drag them down Hell.
Taking away her eyes from them, Yang Mi walked straight ahead. While she was walking silently, Death followed closely behind her.
After walking for a long time in that hot place, a tall door swarmed with moving vines, and snakes stood before them.
Yang Mi stopped walking and glanced behind her.
"What? You want me to open it for you?" Death jokingly said, but her silence answered him. "You! Are you even hearing yourself? Ordering me around as if I'm your rightful servant..."
"Be a gentleman and open it then. Or I can open it for you and treat you like a lady."
Death choked up by her words and glared at her.
Who wants to be treated like a lady!
Fuming with anger, he stormed forward and pushed open the door. It creaked heavily under his hands, and the vines and snakes that looked like they would curl up and attack him suddenly when he got closer turned into dust.
Feeling satisfied with himself, Death turned his head to brag about his excellent performance that needed no effort from him. But then, the person he was trying to impress was looking at him with indifference.
Indeed, this woman is really something else.
They walked inside, and the door behind them slammed loudly. It caused the dust from the ceiling to fall, but it didn't fall on their bodies as if an invisible wall were casing their figures.
The place they entered was utterly different from the hot place they came from. Bright light filled the room, and the vast space was empty besides the wide round pool ahead.
"Are you sure you want to do this?" Death couldn't help himself from asking. They stood before a pool of water that occasionally produced a golden and silver light.
"What of being sure and not being sure? I should at least take responsibility for my actions." Yang Mi took off her dress, the fabric slowly slipping through her shoulder and rustled as it fell to the ground.
Standing naked before the pool, Yang Mi didn't feel any embarrassment even if Death was around. Between the two of them, neither cared about their outward appearance, and they didn't feel anything even if they stood naked in front of several high beings.
Hearing her, Death shook his head. He didn't know why Yang Mi would go so far for that human. To give her Thousand Soul Bead to that human to save him made Death wonder how important this man was to her.
Does she even understand how precious that bead is to her? Even the Heavens were reluctant to let go of her because she was the only one in this universe to possess the Thousand Soul Bead. And yet, she was willing to give it up to that man.
But... What were the people up the Heaven doing? Why were they not stopping her? Did God already plan this for her?
Asking too many questions was certainly not good. So, Death chose not to ask anymore and only looked at the ceremony. Yang Mi slowly submerged in the water until the water entirely swallowed her head. The light that swayed suddenly stilled before it burst an extremely blinding light that could even make Death close his eyes.
After what felt like a century, Death finally opened his eyes and saw that the light in the water returned to its former appearance and sighed.
"Let's meet again..." The soft whisper from the young woman entered his ears.
Slowly, his figure also disappeared and left only a streak of black smoke from where he stood.
...
On Earth, an unexplainable phenomenon occurred. A bolt of blinding golden lightning struck down, and humans were too shocked to even react to it before it completely disappeared.
No one knew what exactly happened and why there would be lightning on a beautiful and sunny day.
At the same time, a person lying on the bed slowly opened their eyes.
