[Interlude] The Family's Perspective

Hello everyone, Author-san here.

This is just a bonus chapter before moving to the next volume.

This is just my self-made background of the family members and their perspective towards Rebecca.

I hope you like the chapter as I try to recall all the chapters from the web novel and manga since I am not exactly a light novel reader. Some of the lines are copied, altered and added some few original content to match the MC's story.

[Paul's POV]

My name is Paul Greyrat. I am the father figure of the Greyrat family.

I was born from a high-ranking noble family of the Asura Kingdom.

However, because I had a fight with my father one day due to one mistake I made,

I casted away my lineage name, leave my household and decided to be an adventurer.

From there, I formed a party of adventurer called the [Fangs of the Black Wolf].

We travelled the world and explored so many dungeons and killed many monsters.

We became famous in adventurer's guild because of our teamwork and raw strength.

One day, when we travelled to the continent of Milis, I met a beautiful blond woman.

Her name is Zenith Latreia.

She is a Milis noble who ran away from her home and decided to become an adventurer as well.

We invite her in our party and we ventured the rest of the world together.

However, one faithful night, I invited her to sleep with me.

When we did, I accidentally made her pregnant and this made conflict towards the party members.

Eventually, the party broke off and we all separated to walk on different paths.

Me and Zenith then moved to the Asura Kingdom to settle.

I wanted to go back to my family's household but I declined and chose to stay in the Fittoa region instead.

There, I met with the mayor of the Citadel of Roa, Philip Boreas Greyrat.

I bowed my head to him and plead to him in giving us a place to stay.

He complied and provided us a place to stay in a remote area of Buena Village and work there as a local knight of that area.

In there, we lived in a decent looking house for me and my wife to call a home.

Then when the day where Zenith is about to give birth, I call upon an old friend from the past and hired her as a midwife.

It was Lilia and I invited her to assist us in the Zenith's childbirth.

When the process of the childbirth is done, Zenith gave birth to a pair of twins.

They looked exactly identical but the first one is a boy and the other one is a girl.

We named the baby boy, Rudeus and the baby girl, Rebecca.

We welcomed the twins in the family and we took care of them.

The twins are quite energetic and healthy,

Especially Rebecca who was a bundle of joy and energy.

One day, I even saw her crawled within the house endlessly when she learned to move on her own.

Even she's just a baby, she had abundant of stamina, which is quite weird to say the least.

When she was a year old, she came to me and childishly asked me to teach her how to use a sword.

This made me intrigued and told her that I will teach her when she's a bit older.

Two years had passed, and the incident of the explosion in the second floor occurred.

I was practicing sword swings that time and Rebecca was watching at the garden.

I asked her if she wants to learn swordsmanship and she agreed.

She even told me that she wants to be like me in the future, which made me proud.

Then the explosion happened and Rebecca was the first one to react and went inside to take a look.

When we went to the room of where the explosion came from, we saw Rebecca standing opposingly in front of her brother.

We asked what happened and Rebecca said the Rudy casted an intermediate magic and blow up the wall of the room.

Zenith was excited and wanted to call a magic tutor for Rudy.

However, I opposed with the idea but Rebecca convinced me to let her learn swordsmanship while Rudy learns magic.

Ever since then, I taught her all of the knowledge I have in swordsmanship and taught her everything, ranging from sword swings, footwork, battle aura and sword techniques of the three-sword styles.

She absorbed all of the things I taught her in an alarming rate, which made me perplex and proud at the same time.

Her battle aura was of that of a professional swordsman and her strength rivals of that of the saint ranked or higher as if she was a professional herself in her previous life.

She also knew magic as well. She learned attack magic from Roxy and Rudy and healing magic from Zenith.

From the looks of it, she was expanding her arsenals she could use in the future.

This made me nervous and scared of her capabilities as a swordsman. She is very terrifying and her bloodlust made me paralyze in fear.

Is she really my daughter? Why do I feel like I am looking at an old person with abundant of knowledge and experience in some occasion.

When I reprimanded her one time and accidentally hit her brother, she got angry to the point of hating me.

Then she declared that we are not allowed to hurt her brother except her.

This made me confused and baffled at the same time.

Why would she declare such a thing? I only hit Rudy once and she snapped immediately.

Ever since then, she became quite attached to Rudy and more distant to me at the same time.

How could this happen? What have I done? Why did my fault become detrimental on my relationship with Rebecca as father and daughter?

*sigh*

I should be more careful in my action from now on.

That is, when the incident of the accidental pregnancy of Lilia when Zenith was conceived.

Rebecca's hate for me grew and she became a part of the three women party that would smack me if I did a bad thing.

Urgh, dammit.

My dignity as a father became more brittle as time goes on.

Oh well, at least she still sees me as a father and that's what matters the most.

That girl, my daughter, is quite a strange and bizarre individual in my life.

I should work harder to repair our father-daughter relationship I broke.

[Lilia's POV]

My name is Lilia Greyrat, the maid of the Greyrat family.

I used to be a guard-maid of Asura's concubine palace.

Tasked to protect a princess of the kingdom. I did my job to protect her from assassins of the other factions.

However, one day, when I was protecting the princess from an assassin, I was struck by a poison knife at my legs.

After that, the doctors of the kingdom healed me but left my unable to use my legs to run.

I then quit the job in the Asura Kingdom because of my inability to guard.

I went to the borders of the kingdom to find another job.

Then I found a job request for hiring a midwife maid and the sender of the job was an old friend.

His name is Paul Greyrat, a swordsman that I used to train with in a dojo long time ago.

I remembered the time he assaulted me one night and leave me, just for him to become an adventurer. I was planning to use that incident as a bargaining chip in order to get accepted in the job.

I applied for the job and was greeted by Paul and his wife.

I was then accepted immediately without me negotiating with Paul.

Well, it doesn't matter, as long as I am accepted in the job. I am satisfied.

When the madam is about to give birth, I did my job to assist in the childbirth.

If my memories were right, I remembered all the necessary means in the birthing process.

After a long tiring job of pulling the newborn from the mother's womb, I successfully brought out a pair of twins.

One was a male and the other one is female. They are very identical in features such as the hair and facial structure.

They were named by the parents as Rudeus and Rebecca respectively.

Ever since then, I was tasked to take care of these children as a maid.

However, the twins displayed weird actions that only I can see.

The male one, Rudeus, displays perverseness while the female one, Rebecca, displays a mature aura.

What I mean is that Rudeus can be seen ogling to women's breast and Rebecca will reprimand him for his action.

This can be seen as childish and innocent by their parents but I could see them as possessed by a demon of some sort.

I decided to secretly buy some ritual materials such as candles and plan to do a ritual to drive away what's possessing them.

When I am about to do it in midnight where everyone is asleep, I went to the twin's bedroom to start the ritual.

But as I was about to start, Rebecca abruptly opens her eyes and looks at me with a different eye color from her usual blue eyes she had at birth.

She then glares at me intently as if she is telling me "What are you doing here?" expression.

I was terrified and ran away from the room to escape.

Ever since that incident, I was cautious at Rebecca and avoid provoking her in any way.

Whenever I observe her, she just looks at me innocently and has childish vibe to it compare to what she did that night.

What is she exactly? Is she really a demon of some sort? Should I tell the parents about this?

No, even I tell the parents about her, they will just dismiss it as hoax and nothing more.

I will just be careful to not anger, master Rebecca from now on, I guess.

As she is growing up, master Rebecca showed a bundle of talents in swordsmanship which I was surprised at the sight of a small girl skillfully wields a sword.

Even I, who used to train with the sword in the past, had a hard time mastering the blade, and here we have master Rebecca mastering all three sword styles to the advance rank in just two years.

I was amazed by her potential in swordsmanship and respected her deeply.

Then one day, when the madam was pregnant again, I was also got pregnant due to my desire to have sexual intercourse.

The reason for the said desire was because of hearing the moans and sexual noise from next door.

The urges tempted me to lure the master Paul to relieve me of my sexual tension.

Because of the news of me being pregnant, both the madam and master Rebecca both reprimand master Paul for what happened.

Both the madam and master Rebecca were conflicted by the incident but master Rudeus masterfully convinced them to resolve the issue and let me stay in the house as a member of the family.

Since then, my respect for master Rudeus deeply increased.

After the childbirth and giving birth to Aisha, master Rebecca told me to call her my daughter and her calling me mother.

I was hesitant to agree but she insisted and told me that it was repayment for all the hard work I did.

I gave in and called her daughter ever since.

This girl, my daughter, is a very amazing and inspiring person.

I truly respect her talent and personality.

[Zenith's POV]

My name is Zenith Greyrat. I am the mother figure of the Greyrat family.

I was born in the Holy Country of Millis as the second daughter of an Earl of Millis.

I grew up following the Millis Church religion. never breaking the rules, getting good grades in school, and had the nickname Millis young lady standard.

The church involves in following the beliefs of Milis, along with the legend that tell the tale of a wondering heaven race that befriended Saint Milis long time ago.

That legend was my favorite as I am entertained by the story of the mysterious heaven race that travelled the world and helped with the human-demon war long time ago, However, the heaven race died in the war, which is sad. However, the death of the heaven race led to the victory of the human race.

After several years in Milis, I reached the age of 15 years old.

In that day, I rebelled from my mother, ran away from home and turned away from the noble's road because I don't like the idea of arranged marriage.

I want to be like the heaven race in the legend, free and able to choose the own path they choose. Some of the Milis believer disdained that mysterious heaven race but I don't. In fact, I idolized that person.

After running away, I decided to become an adventurer and take the role of a healer.

However, being an adventurer is hard as I usually gotten myself swindled a lot of my money due to my lack of knowledge and experience.

But I will not give up. I will not let my idol down just because of my predicament of being used as a human shield by the adventurers.

Eventually, I was saved by a young adventurer. His name is Paul Greyrat.

Is this a miracle? Was I been saved by the blessing of that heaven race? If so, thank you very much.

Anyway, Paul invited me to his party called the [Fangs of the Black Wolf].

We had a lot fun and adventures throughout the world.

However, one night, Paul invited me to sleep with him.

I was hesitant but gave him a condition to only love me, and me alone.

He agreed and we slept together.

But things got worse in the next morning as I became pregnant.

The party broke off because of this and we walk a different path.

Then me and Paul moved to the Asura kingdom.

He chose to bow to the Fittoa's lord instead of his hometown's lord.

Then the mayor of the region provided us a home to live in the Buena village.

There we lived together until the time I am about to give birth.

Then the time has come, and Paul hired a midwife maid to assist with the childbirth.

During the time of struggling and pushing, I prayed for Milis and perhaps the mysterious heaven race as well.

After the struggle was over, a miracle has happened.

I gave birth to a pair of twins.

One male and one female.

Me and Paul named the twins, Rudeus and Rebecca.

Both of them have identical hair color and faces.

Ever since then, we took care of the twins.

The twins were both lively and healthy.

Especially my dear Rebecca.

She is quite cheerful and full of energy.

She loves to move around the house when learned to crawl and walk.

She even helped with the garden and assist me in taking out the weeds.

I was just feeling conflicted when she wants to learn swordsmanship from Paul and tried to rebuke the idea.

However, Rebecca insisted and wants to learn the sword to protect the family.

It was sweet of her and respect her decision to learn.

She also came to me and ask to teach her healing magic.

She told me that the healing magic she first saw when she was a baby inspire to learn.

I complied and taught her healing magic up to the advance rank.

I asked her why she want to learn healing magic and she replied with

"I want to heal those who I held dear and fix their wounds to keep them safe"

I was happy and glad that my daughter worked so hard to protect and heal those she cares about.

Even when the time Paul scolded her and accidentally hit Rudy, she got angry and reprimanded Paul for his actions by making a condition of "No one is allowed to hurt onii-chan except me".

The dedication to protect Rudy is commendable, but I don't know about the second part. Though I didn't voice any complaints and let it slide for now.

Ever since that time, Rebecca became quite attached to Rudy and loved him dearly.

I smiled at her affection towards Rudy and I am glad that the twins are getting along.

Then the incident of Lilia's pregnancy happened.

Both me and Rebecca were angry at Paul when he admits that he's the one who impregnate Lilia.

We both smacked him and reprimanded him for his crimes.

How dare he betrayed me! That scambag womanizer! Why did this happen?

"Mom, please calm down. Let's resolve this together without stressing the baby."

Those were the words of my daughter when I was distraught during the incident.

She was worried about my wellbeing now that I am still pregnant.

Ah yes, I almost forgot about that stress will affect the health of baby in the womb.

I thanked Rebecca because of that and tried to negotiate with Lilia.

Me and Rebecca were conflicted when Lilia planned to leave when she's done with the childbirth.

I knew that traveling with baby safely is quite farfetched and hard to believe.

Even Rebecca knew it is impossible.

Then Rudy came and convinced us to forgive Lilia and let her stay in the house.

It took me a considerable amount of time to comply and finally gave in.

We welcomed Lilia to the Greyrat family and punished Paul for his fault.

Then the childbirth happened, Lilia assisted me in giving birth and gave birth to a girl.

I named her Norn and Rebecca liked it.

She then gave her affection to Norn and played with her.

I am happy that Rebecca became a big sister for Norn.

Then there's the time after Rudy decided to get a job in order to earn money for enrollment in the school that he wanted. On that night, Rebecca talked to me.

"Mom, I have something I want to say"

That's what she said when she entered my room in the evening.

"What is it, sweetie?"

"I just wanted to say thank you for all what you have done to me.

I thank you for taking care for me when I was young.

I thank you for the time we spend together in the house.

I thank you for teaching me so many things such as healing magic.

I am truly grateful for your love for me as your daughter.

Truly, mom. I thank you with all of my heart."

What's this? Why is she suddenly saying this to me? Why now? Why this late in the evening.

"Why do you suddenly say that in this late in the evening? I know that I am thankful for the kind words, Rebecca. But why now?"

"Well, I know that me and onii-chan will go soon when the job request comes. So, I wanted to say all of this before leaving the village."

"Ehh? Can't you say that tomorrow in the morning?"

"If I did that, there's a possibility that the job will come in the morning and I will have no time to say all of these to you"

Ah, I see. Now I get it. She wants to say all of these just in case they will leave tomorrow.

"I see, thank you for all the kind words you just said. I also want to say something to you, dear"

"What is it, mom?"

"I love you"

"..."

"I love you and your brother so much. The two of you are my pride and joy ever since you two were born. I cherished all of the fun moments we spend together. I absolutely adored your hard work and dedication to become strong in order to protect all of those you want to protect. I am truly blessed with a wonderful daughter that is loving and passionate with her family. Thank you for being that kind of daughter I never knew I wished for. I love you, Rebecca. I truly am"

I said all of my honest thoughts to Rebecca and she just stared at me.

Eh, did I say something wrong? Have I misspoken somehow?

She stared at me for a while and then, she walked in front of me and hugged me

"Eh? Rebecca, are you okay"

*sniff*

Eh, is she crying?

"Thank you.... *sniff* Truly... *sniff* Thank you very much, mom..."

She tightens her hugged and I hugged her back.

"Yes, I know, Rebecca. You're welcome"

"I love you, mom"

"I love you too"

This was the last memory I had with Rebecca before she left the village with Rudeus.
