''Prosecutor Oak, Detective constable Sanchez… It's a pleasure seeing you two here. I've heard a lot about you two and I must say I am impressed with the way you controlled the situation.'' The Prime Minister said as he approached them with his secretary and four bodyguards.
Kai and Mariah looked at each other a knowing look.
''Minister Boris, what can we do for you?'' Mariah asked.
''I came to see how the detective is doing? I heard she got hurt. It's a pity what happened to her. She should have just stayed put. Why did she even join them?'' Minister Boris said and chuckled.
''My apologies but you can't see her. The doctor said she cannot receive visitors.'' Mariah spoke.
''What? Detective Mariah, have you forgotten who I am? Not even your uncle can prevent me from seeing the murder anyone and not especially that murder suspect.'' Minister Boris asked.
''She has being cleared of all murder charges. Don't you think you are crossing the line with your words? Minister Boris, there are still a few reporters lurking around. I'm sure you wouldn't want to be photographed bullying a patient who hasn't even woken up yet.'' Kai asked back.
''Sir, there are indeed a few reporters around. Instead of being aggressive why don't you change your strategy?'' Denis whispered into Minister Boris' ears.
Minister Boris smirked and looked at Kai and Mariah. ''Why do you look so guarded? One would think I came here to lord it over you. I am here to visit our brave police officer who almost died trying to save the criminal.'' Minister Boris said.
''The patient cannot see anyone. Please leave or I will be forced to call the security.'' Dr. Ozge walked over, saying, in her naturally indifferent tone. She looked at Minister Boris and his men and asked.
''Why would you come with all these people to a hospital? Don't you know it will distract other patients?''
''What? Do you even know who I am?'' Minister Boris asked.
''This is the hospital and I don't care who you are. Please leave!'' Dr. Ozge said.
''Who is the director here? I have to speak to the director. This can't be how they allow their doctors to behave towards people right?'' Minister Boris said smugly.
Dr. Ozge removed her phone from her pocket and made a call to the director of the hospital who happened to be her husband.
''Hello!'' Director Ferit answered.
Kai and Mariah looked at each other and turned to stare at Dr. Veta.
''Someone wants to know if you are aware of the behavior of the doctors in this hospital. Are we obligated to our patients or people who are not sick?'' Dr. Ozge asked.
''Of course we are obligated to our patients. Darling, are you having troubles with someone?'' Ferit asked.
''Yes, and they want to speak to you.'' Dr. Ozge said, putting the phone on loudspeaker.
''I'm busy with surgery. Handle them. If they are disturbing the patients, let the security handle them. This is a private hospital, not a state owned. We have our own set of rules here.'' Ferit replied.
The call ended and Dr. Ozge turned and looked at the Prime Minister and his entourage.
''Did you hear that?'' She asked them.
''Let's get out of here. Denis, find out who is the owner of this hospital.'' Minister Boris said as he walked away.
''Whoa! You looked so cool.'' Mariah complimented.
''I was only doing my job. You should go back to the patient now.'' Dr. Ozge said and walked away.
Kai and Mariah went back inside and noticed tears coming from Avery's eyes and they rushed over.
''Is she… crying?'' Kai asked.
''That seems to be the case. Is she having a bad dream?'' Mariah muttered and looked at her bag when her phone started ringing.
…..
Avery got down from the bus at the bus stop and turned towards their apartment. This was the apartment she shared with her sister from the orphanage.
As she walked towards the alley, she noticed someone following her. Avery turned and saw the man in black attire looking at her. Their eyes met and his steps hastened towards her.
Avery started walking fast. She put her hand into her hoodie and to take out her phone. ''Elder sister, save me….'' Avery muttered. She started running when she turned at the corner and heard the man's footsteps behind her.
Avery tripped on her lace and fell down. She was now inside the alley tunnel where it was dark and there were no cameras around.
Avery sat up and moved up. She saw the man remove a dagger as he walked towards her.
''Avery…'' A familiar voice called from behind Avery.
''Anita!'' Avery turned and looked at her elder sister with relief.
The man turned and hurried away. When Avery turned again, she didn't see him.
''Why are you sitting on the dirty ground? Who was that man?'' Anita asked as she helped Avery to stand on her feet.
''Elder sister, I think that is the man. I mean… the killer. He chased me from the bus stop. He was having a dagger in his hand.'' Avery said frantically.
''Avery, calm down and tell me what happened. Didn't you say that you couldn't remember how he looked like?'' Anita asked.
''I… I couldn't remember how he looked like but just now… the dragon tattoo on his wrist was a little shiny. His aura is the same.'' Avery replied.
''Let's get out of here first.'' Anita said and held Avery's hand. They walked out of the alley together.
As they walked away, the man stepped out of his hiding and watched them closely.
Anita poured a glass of water for Avery to drink and sat across her in the hall. ''Drink water first.''
''Mm!'' Avery took the glass and drunk all the water.
''Can you tell me what happened?'' Anita asked.
''When I got down from the bus stop and was walking home, I noticed someone was following me. I thought it was just my anxiety playing with me but I realized he was following me when he started walking faster towards me. When I ran, he also took off after me.'' Avery's hands and legs were shook as she spoke.
''It's alright! I already bought another apartment. We will be moving in this weekend. Once you return from school tomorrow Friday, we shall pack our stuff.''
''You bought a house?''
''Well… technically, I didn't buy it. Someone gave it to me.''
''Elder sister, is it that Prosecutor you are in love with? How does he look like? Why don't you introduce him to me?'' Avery asked.
''He will come back tomorrow. I already booked a table for the three of us. I will introduce you to him tomorrow after we finish packing and go for dinner.''
''Okay!'' Avery smiled.
The scene immediately shifted and Avery found herself in a room. Her body lied next to Anita's body in a pool of blood.
Avery's eyes blurrily saw someone lifting her and carrying her out of the room with her body covered in blood.
….
Back to the ward…
Kai picked a tissue and bent down to wipe Avery's tears. He studied her face and mumbled. 'Is she really having a bad dream? What could she be dreaming about?''
''I have to take this call.'' Mariah said and walked to the door to take the call.
''Prosecutor Oak, I have to get to the station.'' Mariah turned and said to Kai.
''Alright!'' Kai turned to look at Mariah.
''I will leave Avery to you then.'' Mariah said before leaving.
Kai turned back to Avery after Mariah left. He stretched his hand towards her face and leaned closer to her. As he placed his hand next to her face and wiped her tears, Avery's eyes suddenly opened.
''What are you doing?'' Avery asked.
Avery's eyes suddenly opened and she saw Prosecutor Oak wiping her face with a tissue. She opened her mouth and asked.
''What are you doing?''
''You are awake? I will go and get the doctor.'' Kai said and rushed out to call the doctor.
….
Dr. Ozge finished checking on Avery and nodded her head. ''The patient is fine. There is nothing wrong with her. Since she just woke up, you can get her something light to eat from the canteen. A nurse will come in later to take her blood for some tests. We will also be taking her through MRI and other scans at the appropriate time.'' Dr. Ozge added and turned to look at Avery.
''Miss Avery, you are very lucky to have such a caring boyfriend. He never left your side since you were brought here. Get some rest.''
''Huh? Boy… boyfriend?'' Avery asked but Dr. Ozge didn't seem to hear her. The doctor turned and left with the nurses.
Avery looked at Kai when the doctor left the ward. ''Why did the doctor say that you are my boyfriend?'' She asked.
''You must be hungry, right? I will go and get you something to eat. Wait for me.'' Kai stood up and hurried out of the ward without answering the question. It made Avery even more confused. She didn't know what was going on.
