Chapter 21: Ambitions

Recap:

Suijin didn't plan on using rotation like the others, partially because he felt he'd look stupid if he did, but mainly because for his "throw" he'd need to have control over the ball and where it was, requiring a balanced center of gravity.

Suijin, with his back turned to his classmates, sprayed a light mist onto his finger, using the moist liquid to tell the direction of the wind, which luckily was right where he wanted it. He tossed the ball up into the air as he remembered his father's words said in a passing by.

'Sometimes less is more.'

Ignoring the fact that such words would normally come from a man trying to console himself for his small... parts,

Suijin plans on following it literally now. He tilted his head up and readied his sights and nozzle, waiting for gravity to take its course and have the ball end up where he wanted it.

'I can't hit the bottom as that would make the ball spin in the opposite direction of the wind, lowering its speed. Nor the sides as they would direct the energy of movement from distance ahead to either right or left.'

The ball trickled down, within a few more seconds, it would end up right where Suijin wanted it.

'I can't go to the direct middle since with too much power, as that would just split the ball in the middle, but too little power wouldn't make it go far enough. So the obvious option was,'

Suijin sprayed out a rather thin shot, about the width of a toothpick, to the top of the ball. The shot just barely grazed it, but having enough power to spin the ball in the direction of the wind and with that power behind it the ball ended up being propelled forward.

With the power of the shot, the rotation, and the wind, Suijin's ball ended up going significantly farther than he'd anticipated, with everyone waiting more than 10 seconds before the machine made a beep.

"607.3."

____________________________________________________________________________

The rest of the events were a blur. Suijin was still in shock from getting the fourth farthest distance in class.

Though his shock was reasonable, none of the "Recommended" Students even broke the top 5 with Shoji's 587.3 taking that spot.

Though none said it out loud, almost everyone unconsciously placed rather high expectations on the recommended students.

With big names attached to the two of them, Momo Yaoyorozu is a part of the famous and rich Yaoyorozu group, a Tycoon family having a presence in almost every industry possible.

Fashion? Their one of the richest brands in the world, cooperating with UA's Department of Support, and other Technical Support companies to make effective and stylish clothes.

Business? They own several brands, being the producers of the most popular phone brand to date.

Then there's Shoto Todoroki, son of Enji Todoroki, the current number 2 hero, Endeavor. Head of the Endeavor Hero Agency.

Though that short-lived burst of pride at beating such people didn't last. Aizawa had gathered everyone around an electronic screen, each nervous to see their results, not wanting to be the unlucky person Expelled on their first day.

"Here's how you did?" With no motivational speeches or congratulations, he merely pressed the button on his tablet and the results appeared.

Up first were the two obvious results, though the order wasn't certain everyone expected it. A big fat #1 was attached next to Momo Yaoyorozu's name, and below a #2 was next to Shoto Todoroki.

Nobody's eyes lingered on their spots for too long. Even the two in question were more interested in the position of those who caught their eyes.

Todoroki's eyes looked at the screen, the contrast of his two different hair colors and eyes making for quite the scene. Red hair and Turquoise eyes on the left of his face and White hair and Brownish Gray eyes on the right would make any stop for a second look.

'Ah, as expected.'

His sight zoomed in on the name right below his, the name Katsuki Bakugo next to the #3 spots filled his eyes.

Meanwhile, Suijin found his name on the screen, a big #5 right before it. His teacher left little time for everyone to either marvel or laminate at their standing as he spoke quickly likely trying to leave here soon.

"These are your class rankings for your quirks, you don't like it? Change it with effort. All of you."

"...all of us"

"Forget what I said in the beginning, it was a motivation grabber meant to bring out 100% of your abilities."

Many sighs simultaneously echoed through the field. Then Yaoyorozu went on a spiel about how this should have been expected, likely to try and motivate our classmates to pay more attention and think more critically.

But Suijin couldn't help but be skeptical, he'd done his research on the faculty at UA before he came here.

Through forms and sights he'd caught wind of a post, the user didn't say who they were but Suijin inferred that they were a student.

But the content was that a teacher didn't have students last year, every day his classroom was empty devoid of students.

The writer also said that when talking to his friend about it he was told that the teacher of that room did have students, but that teacher expelled them on the first day.

Suijin wasn't someone who believed just anything but when cross-referencing this info he found several posts about how stuck up UA was, some saying their facilities were undermanaged and poorly cared for.

Others mentioned that they were corrupt and kicked out their best class because some rich billionaire wanted to.

Suijin took it all with a grain of salt but with what Aizawa said earlier about the freedom UA teachers had when teaching he couldn't help but connect them to and expect as much.

'Then why didn't he keep his promise? It'd instill fear of being expelled, would motivate everyone to try harder for a longer period since that fear would always exist?'

Suijin thought to himself, looking around to find inspiration and seeing his teacher walk away.

'Unless…was nobody suitable? Was there nobody who he thought should get kicked out….because everyone had potential?'

'Speaking of didn't he say to MIdoriya that he didn't have potential when he was gonna break his whole arm, so he shrunk the range of damage from the entire arm to only a finger.'

Suijin wanted to dispel his theory not wanting to believe the outcome which seemed too good to be true. But the more he thought about it the more it seemed plausible.

Suijin spent the rest of the day ruminating the fact, even when he was walking home with Shoji, and split off from the rest of the group.

The orange sky hung over their heads threatening to disappear, the road was desolate with only the sound of their footsteps being heard. Suijin not being able to take the silence and being alone with his thoughts was the first to talk.

"Do you think….our teacher Did have the intention of expelling someone at first?" Suijin stopped looking at Shoji who'd gotten three steps ahead before stopping and looking at him.

Shojin analyzed Suijin's "face" for a moment before sighing and continuing to walk and looking forward to talking to Suijin behind him.

"It's a possibility."

Suijin also started walking, keeping the distance between the two.

"Then-"

Shoji mercilessly cut him off though, "But it's just as probable that he planned on expelling everyone who didn't pass his test, maybe on the recommended students who passed his evaluations before class started."

Shoji stopped walking when saying that. Suijin also stopped thinking over that possibility. 'Maybe, no it's likely, there's no way U.A. would trust someone's words that a person was suitable for their school.'

Nodding his head to himself Suijin continued,

'They should have had another test on a separate day. That should be true, UA is the #1 school in Japan, and there's bound to be more than 4 recommended students so they should've also held their competitions battling for the limited spots.'

'Lest U.A get sued for corruption, accused of being biased to those with money and their sponsors.'

Shoji though shrugged and again continued walking down the path to their houses.

"What does it matter though." He looked down to his side seeing Suijin caught up there.

"He accepted us, so at the very least on the first day, he believes we have what it takes to be his students. Regardless of us contemplating the possible reasons for his actions as long as we continue showing what we have done today, we'd be fine."

Suijin, instead of muttering or thinking in his head, responded this time, still looking straight.

"No, stagnation would just get us expelled like he said, we've got to do more, catch his eyes with our performance and effort. We need to become so invaluable, show so much potential that U.A. itself would never dare let us go."

Shoji glanced over and gave out a dry laugh at Suijin's amped-up face.

"How'd you suppose we do that."

"Place in the upcoming Sports Festival…no rather we've got to win that."

"We?"

"If the past years are to go off then it's possible for the finals to be some team tournament. Like two years ago, when it was a group of three defending the crown final."

"The year that "Big Three" of the U.A won, right?"

"Yeah!"

"And did you think of how we were gonna beat up those monsters?"

Suijin knew who he was talking about, Yaoyorozu, Todoroki, Bakugo, Midoriya. The people he designated as the 4 kings of the class in terms of abilities currently. Though Shoji's the fifth, Suijin muttered inwardly.

Unbeknownst to Shoji, Suijin looked up with a face that said 'Isn't it obvious'.

"We go PLUS ULTRA!"

*Chuckle*

"Suijin…go home." Shoji almost couldn't help himself from laughing out loud.

Suijin looked up to find his house to the right with Shojis on the left. Walking up to the door, he heard the rustle from inside. Suijin looked around to find Shoji still in the same spot.

"Are you serious about that Sports festival?'

"Of course," Suijin said with a determined look.

"Tomorrow at 6, meet me here." Then, not waiting for a response, Shoji turned around and headed to his house.

Suijin nodded and opened the door which momentarily missed his dad's face. Suijin noticed the disfigurement of his clothes, as well as his mom who wasn't trailing too far behind.

-

Enkai meanwhile looked at his son before a realization popped up on his face. He grabbed his work bag, and the shoes he didn't put on yet and ran out the door.

"SUIJIN WHY DON'T YOU TELL YOUR MOTHER ABOUT YOUR DAY!" Enkai had to scream as he was getting farther and farther away.

He passed Shoji' replying "Hey" to Shoji's quick "Hello, Mr. Shimizu."

Suijin looked at his father's car, scurrying away, before feeling chills on his back. Turning around he saw stars in his mother's black eyes.

"How was school? Did you do anything interesting? What am I saying of course you did. What about friends, did you make any? Were any girls? Did you make girlfriends?"

Not wanting this rambling to continue lest she delves back into marriage like she had this morning Suijin put a stop to this at once.

"Mom..Mom-"

But as if she were in her world Erena's expression quickly turned to sorrow as if she were Bipolar.

Wrapping her arms around Suijin Gentilly she said, "Oh honey, its ok-"

'What is she thinking now?'

"-It's ok if you like boys, don't be afraid Mommas always got your bac-"

"MOM! I-It's…*Sigh* Can we just talk about this inside."

"Ok! Bye Shoji~"

So Suijins 2-hour long questioning began, only stopping because of Miss Aiya's Casserole. That night, the object of his prayer shifted to include a special thanks for her.
