"This woman was my last trump card."
While Ego was busy saving Gamora, Zane casually used his [Mystic Eyes of Death Perception] to erase the gravitational pull of the black hole on Skynet's mechanical planet.
Then, with a single teleport, he left the black hole's vicinity and appeared directly behind Ego.
Now that Ego had exhausted all his tricks, there was no reason to keep playing. His role as a whetstone for sharpening Zane had been fulfilled—it was time for him to meet his end.
By the time Ego had revived Gamora, Zane had already disappeared from his field of vision.
Suddenly, Ego, sheltered within his special force field, felt a powerful force pushing him toward the black hole.
Zane had transformed back into a towering giant, his hands wrapped in thick death energy, pushing Ego from behind.
In an instant, Ego knew he was in trouble. Though the special force field could mitigate the black hole's pull to a certain extent, it was still limited.
Once he got too close to the black hole's center, that force field would be torn apart. The mere thought of his fate made Ego shiver.
Moreover, under the protection of the special force field, Ego couldn't even counterattack. Otherwise, the surging Celestial energy would immediately render the force field ineffective.
Before he realized it, Ego suddenly saw that his meticulously planned ultimate move not only failed to harm Zane but had instead pushed him to the brink of doom.
"Kid, you can't do this."
"If I die, you'll be endlessly hunted by the Celestial group!"
Ego's energy tendrils rapidly formed a human face, frantically speaking to Zane.
But Zane merely gave a disdainful smile, unmoved by Ego's panic.
"Seems like even if I don't kill you, the Celestial group will still hunt me down, right?"
"They won't, as long as you spare me."
"I'll immediately report to the 'Judge' and have the Celestial group call off the hunt for you."
Feeling the black hole drawing closer and his force field beginning to weaken, Ego anxiously pleaded with Zane.
Zane chuckled softly, saying nothing, and continued to push Ego toward the black hole.
At this point, Ego was out of options. Desperate, he yanked the barely breathing Gamora in front of him, tightly wrapping her in energy tendrils.
"The woman you want is in my hands! If I die, I'll take her with me, and you'll get nothing!" Ego roared.
But in response, a faint energy beam shot out, piercing straight through Gamora's forehead.
Ego stared at the lifeless body on his tendrils, utterly stunned.
What the hell? Who kills the hostage like that?!
Realizing Zane was dead set on killing him, Ego sank into despair.
And with despair came the madness of a dying man.
Countless energy tendrils surged out, tearing through the special force field and wrapping tightly around Zane.
"Let's die together!" Ego howled in desperation.
He dragged Zane into the black hole, where even light could not escape...
In the pitch-black space, Ego had now transformed into an octopus-like creature, tightly wrapping his tentacles around Zane's arms, dragging him down toward the white dwarf at the center of the black hole.
Although there was no light inside the black hole, as beings of the sixth dimension, they no longer relied solely on their eyes to perceive their surroundings. Sixth-dimensional life forms possessed such powerful senses that they could even detect the movement of atoms, making each other's presence clear.
"Kid, if you use the same method you did earlier to take me with you, there's still time. Otherwise, we'll both die here!"
"I've lived long enough anyway. You, on the other hand, are not even a hundred years old. It would be a shame if you died now," Ego said, his massive, projected face showing a smug expression as he spoke to Zane.
Zane struggled but quickly realized that Ego had completely locked down his arms and upper body, making it impossible for him to escape in a short time. It seemed that following Ego's suggestion was the only way out.
But knowing Zane's personality, he wasn't about to comply with Ego's wishes.
A wild grin appeared on Zane's face. "Alright then, let's die together!"
Before Ego could react, Zane detonated the divine core within his soul. The violent death energy and death laws instantly reduced Zane's soul, body, and the energy tendrils wrapped around him to ashes.
Even Ego's body was mostly disintegrated by the force of Zane's self-destruction, and the near-indestructible black hole itself shook violently. Fine, barely noticeable cracks even appeared on the white dwarf at its center.
Ego was completely stunned. He was so shocked that he didn't even realize his body was now almost touching the white dwarf. He stared blankly at the place where Zane had vanished.
As a fellow sixth-dimensional being, Ego knew this wasn't a fake death. Judging from the power of the explosion and the complete disappearance of Zane's soul from his senses, Ego could confirm that Zane was truly gone—obliterated without a trace.
"Seriously? What the hell, kid! My talk about mutual destruction was just a bluff, but you actually went and did it!"
"You're not even a hundred years old, and you've already reached the sixth dimension. Your future was limitless, yet you chose to commit suicide so decisively! Didn't you think about your family and friends outside? Was it really worth dying with an old geezer like me?"
It wasn't until the remainder of Ego's body touched the white dwarf that he snapped back to reality. A look of extreme unwillingness appeared on his remaining face, and he let out a final, desperate roar toward the place where Zane had exploded:
"No! I don't believe it!"
As soon as Ego's energy tendrils touched the white dwarf, the intense gravitational force instantly crushed them into a thickness infinitely close to zero.
Faced with the imminent threat of death, Ego went completely insane. He frantically mobilized every ounce of Celestial energy within himself, ruthlessly draining Star-Lord's life force, even though it meant pushing him to the brink of death.
At this moment, things like a son or the duties bestowed upon him by the universe were irrelevant. None of it mattered anymore. He could always sire another child who could inherit the Celestial genes, even if it took another few billion years of fathering children.
But if he died now, everything would be over!
Even though Ego had drained Star-Lord dry, gaining almost infinite Celestial energy, in the face of the white dwarf's gravitational pull, all he could do was delay his own inevitable death.
