I stand in front of an average suburban house, it's the one Banner bought with the first month's pay. Knocking on the door a frantic woman opens it. Her eyes are red and puffy obviously having been crying for a while now.
When she sees Banner on my shoulder she rushes forward and wraps his head in her arms. "I was so worried." She looks up at me "Is he okay?"
I nod, "He is only unconscious for the time being," She sighs in relief.
"What happened? How did you get him?"
I grunt "Don't ask, you wouldn't like to hear it," she just nods at my words.
She steps inside, "Put him on the bed, I'll give you a summary of what happened." I walk in the house and find their bedroom tossing Banner down like a sack of potatoes.
I walk back out to the living room to see Betty is preparing tea for us. I sit down across from Betty who is currently pouring the tea.
"So, what happened?" I ask while picking up my cup.
She nervously picks up her cup "I think an experiment went wrong. I came around noon to bring him some lunch but the lab was surrounded by armed military personnel and my father was there. He refused to tell me what was going on. Before I knew it they had the lab surrounded by tanks and barricades. It was like a warzone before the war."
"That's when we heard a roar coming from the lab. I got scared for Bruce so I tried to run in but my father's men held me back. Then the green monster burst from the roof of the lab landing on a tank crushing it. My father's men started yelling at it calling it Banner, I quickly understood when I locked eyes with it. Bruce was definitely in there, somewhere."
"My father ordered his men to fire at Bruce and that's when he went on a rampage destroying the tanks. He injured some of the soldiers as well and I think a handful died from the explosions. I got injured in a part of the building falling. If not for Bruce holding the roof up for me I would be dead right now."
My brows raise, "How did he help you?"
She nods while taking a sip of tea "He didn't leave until he saw me move. After that he left without fighting, just jumped away into the horizon. I passed out waking up in the hospital a few hours later with a furious father next to me. That's when I called you, Bruce always said you are the one to call if something happened to him, I'm glad to see he was right." She gives a loving glance as she looks in the direction of the bedroom.
I rest my head as I think about Banner's situation, if all signs are to be believed, then something went wrong with his experiment. He has another being created inside him that is separate but still connected. The new consciousness is probably mentally still an infant similar to a titan child but draws power from anger, not a bloodline.
'He was working with radiation so maybe he awakened his mutation? No, he wouldn't develop a second consciousness if that were the case. Was there something more than just radiation?' As I'm lost in thought I hear movement come from the bedroom.
I stand up "Stay here while I talk to him." I say to Betty, I see her nod out of the corner of my eyes.
Entering the room I see a frantic Banner trying to grab clothes and stuff them in a suitcase. I lean against the doorframe as I knock on the door. He immediately freezes as he looks at me with shocked eyes.
"You! You brought me here?! Why?! What would you do if I hurt Betty again?! Why didn't she transform? You said she would transform if she was in danger!" His eyes go bright green as his anger rises.
"Quiet! Remember who you speak to." I scold him in a commanding tone.
He backs off a step as he is visibly shaken and turns away. I look at him with lazy eyes "Do you think you could harm Betty while I was here? I could end you with a snap of my fingers at any time. Now sit down and we will talk through your problem."
He nods while he sits on the bed still half-naked. I close the door behind me and lean against it. Seeing him holding clothes in his arms while sitting there calmly irks my nerves a bit.
"Put a damn shirt on," I say with annoyance in my voice.
He seems to notice now that he is shirtless and rushes to put on a shirt. I roll my eyes watching him try and put the shirt on quickly.
Once he finishes my face turns serious, "Now tell me what happened."
He balls his fists as he starts his story "When I first started this project I was given an incomplete serum that was said to be the remnants of an old drug that was lost in World War 2. The thought was that by strengthening the cells with this serum it could save you from the mutations caused by high doses of radiation"
"I was suspicious of what application the military had with this considering General Ross asked me directly. But me being me gave in to my curiosity and accepted the contract. It seemed like it would work, all the signs were right but I failed. My formula was incorrect, but I thought it was right so I was prepared to do the final test before handing it over to Ross."
"The radiation chamber leaked and I was accidentally exposed to high doses of radiation. So much that my skin seemed to be boiling, with no other choice but to inject myself with the serum. After that, my vision went green and I was no longer in control of my own body. I barely remember anything from being the monster, all I remember is being angry. So, very, angry."
"Hmm, So you don't remember saving Betty from the falling building?" I ask curiously.
He looks confused "No I only remember feelings, It started with a little pain and lots of anger. It ended with an overwhelming sense of doom. Like no matter what I did I was a dead man walking."
I smirk knowing now that the beast fears me, "I think my assumption is correct the beast is another consciousness born from the mutation of your body." I pull out a piece of paper from my inner jacket. "Is this what the serum looked like?" I hand him the paper which he quickly looks over.
"THIS IS IT! I was so close." His head lowers as he drops his arms in defeat.
I rub my chin as I speak "This is the super-soldier serum, a serum I gave Osborn the formula for in return for his servitude. He got part of it at a steep cost from the black market auction of the US elite. I took an interest in it because if used properly it has similar effects as to when a human awakens to being the child of a God.
"For example Hercules, he has similar power to this when he first awakened, but you normal humans don't have a bloodline to forward your power. I think you failed to awaken your cells and the mutation affected more than just your body." I lean my head back on the door as I finish.
"That's impossible." He holds his head as he thinks everything through. "But now that you mention it I do feel like someone else is inside my head right now… Is there anything you can do? I don't want to be a monster if I can help it."
"I can indeed get rid of it easily but I would suggest you don't, I think we should merge your consciousness and bodies." I look at him meeting his eyes.
He stands up quickly "That's insane, there is no way we can do that? What if the big guy ends up the dominant personality? Not to mention if I have the body of that thing how can I live a normal life with Betty?"
I roll my eyes at his overreaction "I can give you the ability to change forms, and there is no way your consciousness would lose, the green beast is still an infant. But you would gain its natural fighting ability and with what is coming in the future, you will need the power to protect Betty."
'Really I could just give to him but what is the fun in that.'
He looks worried, "But you're here, what's the worst that can happen?"
I chuckle, "I won't be here always, I could be off-world or worse not even in this realm."
He looks troubled, "And what would it cost? I know you're not bad but you don't give free dessert."
I smile, "Glad you understand, I want you to become an Envoy of Wrath. I never used Envoys in my past life because I was arrogant, but now… I want you to be it."
He swallows hard, "What does that entail?"
"Envoys are beacons of my power, I draw power from your emotions and in return, you can use Wrath. Wrath is one of my most versatile powers, it can remove impairments, strengthen you and your allies, and even weaken your enemies. Perfect for group fighting." I smirk at the thought.
"What is the downside of Wrath?" He looks suspicious for good reason.
"You live life angry, all the time. But it is very manageable if you vent out the anger you can go a while without it. I usually just cull the unworthy when I have a bad day." As I finish speaking I open the door revealing Betty giving me a distrustful gaze.
"Betty?!" Banner gets up and hugs her while she hugs him back tightly.
"You want him to become a murderer so he can be freed from the green monster? And what was that about me transforming?" Betty looks at me angrily.
I hold my hands up "I never said such a thing, I said it would help. According to the fates you were supposed to die today. Banner was supposed to run off to another country and live a depressed life thinking he killed you. Because I approached Banner that all changed, so how about a little goodwill and you just accept the deal?"
"The last deal Bruce signed activated your xgene, you can use your mutant power anytime you want. It was supposed to activate when you were in danger but your stubborn self trusted Banner too much to save you."
Banner pushes Betty back a bit "Is that true?" Now that Betty is behind him he can't see the 'what the fuck,' face that she is giving him.
I nod "The Devil never lies."
Betty looks confused and asks Bruce "Is he a demon? What is an xgene? Did you sell your soul?"
I chime in "An xgene lets you use mutant abilities and no. Technically his soul is collateral, he sold his body."
Betty looks at Banner a bit disgusted "NO NO NO, He means my work, I work for him as a Chemist like a normal job, just with a scary boss." Banner quickly clarifies.
I smirk as I see Betty glare at me, "You have a brave woman Banner, I will give you a day to think about it, I will return tomorrow at midnight. Try to be calm until I get back." I nod goodbye at the couple as I vanish.
When it catches up Morningstar won't get as many updates as Reaper but once Reaper finishes then it will replace Reaper as my #1 book for a bit. This book will probably be around 150 chapters? It's 4 or 5 major arcs away from its end. I'll be sure to tell you guys if I ever add it to the Patreôn.
