Chapter 7: The Winter Soldier

Captain America quickly pulled Nick Fury, who had fallen to the ground, to the side. Just as he was about to turn and pursue the enemy, Nick Fury grabbed his arm.

"Don't trust anyone," Nick Fury handed a USB drive to Captain America.

"Is this why you escaped alone without using the resources of S.H.I.E.L.D.?" Nick Fury's eyebrow furrowed, "Because you can't trust them?"

"But you're the director of S.H.I.E.L.D., and the entire organization is under your command. Can't you trust them?" Natasha Romanoff looked at Nick Fury and asked.

"Could it be that they're not all mine?" Nick Fury's heart skipped a beat. "Alexander Pierce wants to kill me, and I can't use S.H.I.E.L.D.'s people. There are people within S.H.I.E.L.D. who are working for Alexander Pierce!"

"We must investigate! We must uncover the truth!" Nick Fury silently made up his mind. After going out, he not only had to investigate Alexander Pierce but also thoroughly investigate the internal workings of S.H.I.E.L.D. No matter how deeply they were hidden or how many people were involved, he had to expose them!

At this moment, he could never have imagined the extent to which S.H.I.E.L.D. had been infiltrated. It had almost become "HYDRA."

As gunshots rang out, Agent 13, disguised as Captain America's sweet neighbor, also came with a gun to provide support.

After exchanging a few words with Agent 13, Captain America took his shield and went to pursue the enemy.

His pursuit was extremely forceful, regardless of what was in front of him. He directly slammed his shield against his chest and left behind a chaotic mess.

"Indeed, he's a super soldier. His physique is remarkable." Tony Stark didn't say anything aloud, but a hint of envy flashed in his eyes.

On the surface, he was the mighty Iron Man, but in reality, he was heavily affected by the toxin. Moreover, there were numerous small shrapnel pieces constantly trying to burrow into his heart. How wonderful would it be to have a robust physique like Captain America's?

Captain America shattered another piece of glass and leaped out. About a dozen meters ahead of him, a figure was running frantically. Judging from the figure and the long hair, it was the assassin who had launched Nick Fury's bullet-ridden car into the air during the day.

Captain America threw his shield directly at the person.

However, a surprising scene unfolded. The person in front turned around and actually caught Captain America's shield with one hand! Moreover, the arm that caught the shield was shining with a metallic gleam—it was a metal arm!

"What's with this new trick?" Tony Stark couldn't help but comment, "But why is it the left hand instead of the right hand? Isn't the right hand more capable?"

As we all know, Captain America has an incredible ability: no matter who catches his shield, it will always be thrown back to him.

This long-haired assassin is no exception. After catching Captain America's shield, he immediately threw it back with a reverse throw.

Even though others can catch the shield, Captain America naturally can as well. However, after catching the shield, Captain America's whole body was forcibly pushed back three feet by the impact!

When Captain America throws the shield, the opponent catches it effortlessly, without a single movement. But when the opponent throws the shield, Captain America catches it with both hands and is pushed back three feet. This comparison shows that the assassin with the metal arm is quite formidable!

The scene ends here.

"So, Egghead, your future is also uncertain," Tony Stark commented, looking at Nick Fury with a more approving gaze.

"The metal-armed guy is gone, and with Captain by my side, as well as one of my agents, I won't die," Nick Fury said. "Sorry to disappoint you."

"Don't forget that you were shot three times, and in my opinion, those three shots alone could have taken your life!"

"If he wants to kill me, three shots are not enough!" Nick Fury snorted. "Who is this person? Captain is actually at a disadvantage against him in their fight! Captain is a super-soldier injected with a serum!"

"If it's that person, it's not surprising that he can hold his own against Captain," Natasha Romanoff spoke softly.

"Romanoff, do you know him?" Nick Fury's gaze shifted to Natasha Romanoff, and Tony Stark also looked at her.

"Many intelligence agencies don't believe he exists, but those who do call him the Winter Soldier," Natasha Romanoff said with a complicated expression. "In the past 50 years, he has been considered the perpetrator of over 20 assassination cases."

"In the past 50 years? He doesn't look like a 50-year-old uncle, and it's impossible for him to have started assassinating since birth," Tony Stark paused for a moment. "Could it be that he is also a super-soldier like Captain?"

"Yes," Natasha Romanoff nodded.

"This world is even more chaotic than I thought. We all believed that Captain had been dead for nearly 70 years, but today we find out that he's actually alive. That alone is surprising, but there's also another super-soldier like Captain," Tony Stark couldn't help but say, "Egghead, how did you become the director of SHIELD without knowing all this?"

"Don't call me Egghead!" Nick Fury's forehead vein twitched, but he didn't argue with Tony Stark.

When Tony Stark asked him this question, he also asked himself in his mind. As the head of the world's largest intelligence organization, he always thought that there was nothing that could escape his eyes.

But these two simple questions shattered his confidence.

He didn't know about Captain America or the Winter Soldier, and he didn't even see through the internal affairs of SHIELD!

Especially Alexander Pierce, his former superior, who actually possessed a super-soldier. The depth of his concealment was unimaginable.

Alexander Pierce worked in the same building as him, and he knew nothing about it. He had never even entertained a suspicion. How did he, as the director of SHIELD, end up in this position?

"Fury, don't be separated from this hoverboard from now on," Natasha Romanoff walked up to the Green Goblin hoverboard, observing it while speaking. "If you had this hoverboard in the video just now, you wouldn't have looked so battered."

"It's already equipped with some weapons, but it's too rough. I can do better," Tony Stark also approached the hoverboard. "Don't worry, once I've obtained its data, I'll return the hoverboard to you as soon as possible. It won't take too long."

"Stark, you can rest assured and focus on your research," Nick Fury waved his hand and said, "From the video, it's evident that this assassination attempt occurred after Captain's appearance. Right now, Captain still doesn't know where I am. At least, I'm safe until Captain shows up."
