Chapter 54- The Birthmark

Harrison laid Delilah gently on the cot before he stood aside for the nurse to have a look at her. He and Anna waited outside the curtain.

" Uhm…. Classmate Harrison, th-thank you… for helping." Anna blushed, afraid to look at his captivating face.

Harrison answered, "Un," keeping his gaze fixed on the drawn curtains.

Anna hurried to the nurse as soon as the curtains opened.

"I have put some ointment on her hands and sprained ankle; she just needs rest. She will be fine… She also gave off the impression of being mentally worn out. Although I understand that you must study, you should not push yourself too hard or-- has she been thinking a lot lately?" The nurse enquired.

" Y-Yeah, she had a nightmare last night, and she kept spacing out all morning," Anna said with pursed lips.

Harrison heard this and grimaced without saying anything, his gaze never leaving the girl on the cot behind the curtains.

He had no idea why he chose to help her earlier, it was like a strange sense of protectiveness washed over him. Even though he did not know Delilah well, he was drawn to her in some way.

He felt a strong need to support and shield her, and even though he could not explain it, he felt incredibly happy and proud when he held her in his arms.

Harrison took advantage of the opportunity to move into the curtain and slowly approach the bed when Anna went with the nurse to have her sprained wrist checked. Her appearance captivated him, and his heart unexpectedly skipped a beat… or two.

Her appearance exudes purity and beauty in every way: her long, beautiful neck, her perfectly arched brows, her small, straight nose, her soft, cherry-red lips, and her lashes, which rest on her pale face, fair white skin without blemish, black silky hair, scattered languidly over the pillow.

He recalled being truly mesmerized by her captivating eyes when their gazes first met some time ago.

Harrison approached her bed as if under a spell. His emotionless eyes widened in shock as his penetrating gaze found the birthmark on her neck, and his whole body trembled.

" Qing… impossible, she can be--", It cannot be, Harrison thought with misted eyes. With disbelief, he shook his head.

His mind was filled with childhood memories as he fixed his attention on the tiny lotus birthmark on her neck, which had petals that curved like a crescent moon.

When Harrison felt a tap on his shoulder, he turned to see Anna. "Classmate Harrison, are you… okay?

With a broken voice, he nodded, "Un—," then quickly left the infirmary, lowering his head and saying, "Excuse me."
