 I grabbed Joey and as quickly as possible I brought him to the place in the floor where Jack and I had created a secret bunker. I pulled the rug off as quickly and silently as possible and pulled open the door in the floor. A secret bunker inside a secret base seemed crazy at the time. Now it seemed more dire to our survival than ever. I rushed him down inside and pulled it closed. It wasn't the most obvious thing but I was hoping the thing upstairs wouldn't notice with all my heart. I was hoping we'd be as safe as Jack and I had thought we would when we first built this thing. It was underground and it took forever the first time. It had been a while since we had been down here. Hopefully, it wasn't compromised like my room had been. We waited on bated breath and I hoped that Jack wouldn't come back anytime soon. I didn't want him to be caught off guard but I had no way of warning him. I cursed the fact that we had never finished our plans for this place and built an exit out of this bunker. Joey and I would just have to wait it out and hope for the best. We stayed by the door listening for if Jack was coming and if we'd be found. Joey was squeezing my arm to death. It was dark, I didn't bother to turn on the light for fear that it would be seen. We were in the dark and from the way he was holding onto me. I could tell he was scared. I had to be the brave one now. Usually that was Jack's role. Hopefully, the Fepetaineshadows hadn't gotten to him while he was out. Hopefully, he wasn't out there somewhere, alone and bleeding to death.
