Chapter 20: Soul Eater

Nobara tightened the grip on her hammer as she and Yuji Itadori faced a horde of skeleton curses in the dark place. The air was thick with tension as they swung into action, each strike resonating with the determination to kill the foe.

In the midst of the chaos, Nobara couldn't help but notice the way Yuji effortlessly manoeuvred through the curses, his movements a perfect blend of strength and agility. As they fought side by side, a newfound respect for his abilities stirred within her.

The mission that brought them together was far from ordinary. The cursed spirits they encountered were unusually powerful, requiring them to synchronize their attacks and strategies.

Nobara, known for her independence, found herself relying on Yuji more than she anticipated. Of Course, She doesn't have a romantic interest as of now but she can say with confidence that she can leave her back open next to him.

"Hey, Yuji, Look at my new trick; {Hairpin}" Nobara said as she snapped her finger.

Suddenly all the nails she previously planted on the skeleton and wall exploded. Killing all the Undead in the perimeter.

"If you had such an attack then why don't you use this before," Yuji asked.

"But anyway you did great back there, Nobara. We make a good team," he said with his usual smile.

Nobara smirked. "Don't get too comfortable, Itadori. I don't need anyone slowing me down." Then she looked around.

"Now what will we do?" Nobara asked because of the darkness they clearly can't find a way to exist.

"Nobara, It's not over, we still haven't seen the special grade curse. It could be somewhere around here." Yuji said.

"Right, But it's a special Grade we can't do anything if it's decided to attack us. We wouldn't see what kills us." Nobara's concerns are indeed valid but she doesn't know that one in front of her is someone more dangerous than some special grade curse.

"Don't worry, I am sure Megumi will provide us with support."

Just then a shadow cast over them with an intense scream.

The one that appeared before them was nothing like a skeleton, its form was a grotesque fusion of malevolence and hunger. Its body seemed to be made of a swirling, inky substance that constantly shifted and contorted, defying any attempt to discern a fixed shape. The creature's eyes, glowing with an otherworldly hunger, peered out from the darkness within its form, their intense gaze fixated on the essence of souls.

Looking at the ugly creature in front of him, Yuji only had one thought.

A Soul Eater. No, it's a mutant—a combination of soul eater and cures.

"What is that thing? It looks like it's made of vomit," Nobara said, her hands shaking. Because a Soul Eater is an undead, any living being is their prey. Normally, even the sight of this creature made humans run for their lives. But Nobara was able to keep her calm and even joke about it.

Yuji smiled at Nobara, he was surprised at first because he didn't predict Undead or Soul Eater but now that he thought about it then his presence would cause changes, not just in this world but any world. But the changes are too fast in this world.

Ha, living by the rules is so damn hard. It was much easier back then.

[Then break those rules.]

'Sukuna, I was wondering why you are so quiet.'

[I was studying the spell you gave me. I have to say the structure is very interesting. It's very complicated, to say the least.]

'So why are you talking to me, Sukuna? Clearly not to tell me your progress on the spell, right.'

[No, I want him.] Sukuna said. He was talking about the Soul Eater. While Sukuna wouldn't say it out loud, he is enjoying the changes brought by Yuji.

But Sukuna isn't a fool to believe everything Yuji said. During the past week, Sukuna observed Yuji and knew that he was a man with a cold heart. Even his objective of coming to this world is suspicious; looking for companions, Sukuna, even in his sleep, wouldn't believe such a blunt lie.

But he can't do anything about it, as from their battle, it's clear that Yuji is powerful, for now.

The spell Yuji uses has also caught Sukuna's interest, so for now, he needs a test subject to see the progress he has made.

Hearing Sukuna, Yuji asked. 'Why? It's rare to see you offering a helping hand without asking anything in return.'

[It's not like I'm not asking anything in return. I'll tell you what I need after we finish all this.]

'Yes, that's the hot pants I know. And before you take control, I need to tell you, do not harm... '

[...Your sidekick. I know, and you don't have to say.]

'Alright, but do you know how to kill it? I gotta say this, but a Soul Eater is pretty good at regeneration, and seeing that it's mutant, even I can't predict its current abilities.'

[I'm gonna cut its head off, see if that works.]

"Hey, Yuji, Why are you spacing out," Nobara asked after seeing Yuji was silent. "Don't tell me you are getting scared. Don't worry, Your big sister is here."

"Hey, Yuji, why are you spacing out?" Nobara asked after seeing Yuji was silent. "Don't tell me you are getting scared. Don't worry, your big sister is here."

Yuji, snapping out of his momentary reflection, managed a wry smile. "Scared? Nah, just thinking about the best way to deal with this mess. And Nobara, You should hide."

"Hide? Seems like fear is really affecting your head."

"No, I releasing Sukuna," Nobara looked at Yuji.

"Have you gone mad?"

"Do you have any better solution than getting killed?"

"No,"

"So just hide; I'll keep him at a distance until you hide."

"You're going to die; you're up against a special grade," Nobara said.

"One death is better than two, and look at him; he hasn't attacked us yet. He's underestimating us and he's having fun toying with us."

"But.. " She was about to reply.

"Nobara" Yuji looked at her.

"I will put a flower bouquet on your grave, Yuji," Nobara said but she didn't let the sadness show on her face.

"You wish, Now go," Yuji replied with a smile.

Sending Nobara out of the perimeter, Yuji turned to the enemy.

"So what you waiting for, let the hell lose."
