Dabi awoke in a bed much plusher than the one he'd slept on the past few nights, his head resting against something warm and soft.
"Mnm-" He groaned, shifting in slight pain.
"Mornin' sleepyhead. Enjoy your rest?" The husky morning voice of Hawks asked, a finger fiddling with some of Dabi's hair.
He was saddened by the familiarity in which Hawks addressed him. It was the same as it always had been, though at the same time it wasn't. This Hawks didn't have an obligation to him like before.
Before he'd been played, strung along like a puppet for show. This time there were no ulterior motives. Hawks just found him pretty. That was all there was to it.
And so he smiled, "You have a bony chest. Not the best pillow. Zero outta ten."
The former laughed, "I bet I could make you love me."
His smile faltered at the implication of 'make' though he didn't dwell, "I don't know, pillow quality is one of my deciding factors."
"Well, it won't work with that attitude! Come on, let's get up, want breakfast?" Hawks asked, wrapping his arms around Dabi and pulling him up slightly alongside him into a sitting position.
"Ahhh, no, let me put underwear on first at least." The taller man groaned, flailing an arm around the sheets to find out where he'd flung his briefs.
Hawks only blushed, "Yeah, maybe that would be a good idea." he admitted with a chuckle.

Having put on briefs and his shirt from the night prior, he checked his phone. Five missed calls from Fuyumi and two from Endeavor.
He didn't feel like dealing with a flaming pile of garbage, so he decided to call Fuyumi back instead.
"Touya? Is that you?" A female voice answered.
"Yes, Yumi, it's me." He'd called her a nickname without thinking, instantly realizing, "Ah sorry, I used to have a sister named Mayumi, force of habit."
"Used to-? Ah, where are you?" She asked, sounding almost frantic.
He sighed, "Didn't you see the note I left in the kitchen?"
"Note? What note? There was no- oh. I found it." There was a pause, "Did you find an okay place to stay?"
"Yeah. I did. Thanks for worrying about me."
He could almost feel her loving smile through the phone, "Of course. Everybody deserves somebody that worries about them."
They sat in comfortable silence for a moment before Fuyumi spoke again, "Oh, that reminds me, make sure to call my dad back, he said it was important. Something about missing paperwork-?"
Dabi groaned, "Not more paperwork!"
She laughed at him, not in a malicious or mocking way, it was almost apologetic, "It'll be fine, whatever it is, so don't worry."
"I really hope so," He sighed, "Have a nice day, Fuyumi, I'll see you sometime later. Bye."
"I will! I hope you get everything sorted out, Touya. Bye!" She said, hanging up.
He could feel his muscles physically fight back as he hit the call-back button for Endeavor's cell. It rang for a long time until he answered at the last second.
"You've reached Endeavor. May I know who I am speaking with?" A female voice replied, maybe his secretary.
"This is Shinkawa Touya, I have a few missed calls from Endeavor and I need to speak with him." He replied, already exasperated and it was still only nine in the morning.
"Give me a minute, I'll put you through to him." She said before the phone make a slight hitched noise, "Is that you, Touya?"
Dabi pinched the bridge of his nose, "Yeah, it's me. What is this about missing paperwork?"
"You failed to mention your files weren't the only ones that burned. City Hall says they can't register a citizen without having listed birth parents." Endeavor stated with full seriousness, "Will your parents be re-filing their own records anytime soon?"
Well, Hell in a Handbasket, he didn't think about that. "Uh, my parents are dead, sir."
Enji groaned from the other end of the line, much representing how Dabi currently felt. This morning had been filled with more cross groans than his usual mornings at the League had ever been.
"I've texted the attendant at City Hall. She says she'll have to put at least somebody in as a parental figure. Have anybody in mind?"
Dabi murmured a few swears under his breath, cursing his brain for the idea as it came, "What about you?"
"Pardon?"
"Well, you stated previously that I look like your wife. My quirk lines up pretty well, too. If somebody asks you could say I was quite sickly and frail as a kid so I never went outside." Dabi explained his thought process. Albeit a little over the top, it could work, "I don't expect you to put me in your will or anything, it's just an idea."
"Hmm…" Endeavor hummed and Dabi could only imagine the constipated expression he wore as he stroked his chin, "That's a pretty good idea. What about your surname, though? And Shouto's friends?"
After some thought, he came to a decent conclusion, "Maybe I could say I changed my name to not bring shame to you? Perhaps could garner enough pity points for people to overlook the outlandish nature of the story. As for Shouto's friends, they'd probably be fine knowing since they're heroes in training."
With a contented sigh, Endeavor agreed, "I've told her just to put my wife and me down as your parents. How does it feel being adopted as an adult?" he asked in poor humor.
"A little shitty, dad." He joked back, forgetting for just a moment he was talking to the man that used to burn and beat him senseless.
"Try to stay out of trouble, son." The red-haired man laughed back almost, "Will you be home for dinner?"
"If nothing gets in the way between now and then, yes." Dabi replied.
"That is all. I'll call you if something comes up. Make sure you answer this time." Endeavor then hung up, not waiting for the former's response.
Dabi sighed, setting his phone down on the nightstand to head to the kitchen, where Hawks had been prepping breakfast.
"Those were some intense phone calls, Hot Stuff. Still have an appetite?" Hawks asked, not looking over to him from where he was flipping pancakes.
The former only laughed, "Even more so, now!"
The blonde looked to him with a smile, "Good. I made lots."

As he finished up his meal, chewing the last bite and wiping around his mouth with a cloth. Perhaps he didn't use his manners as a villain (though still the neatest of his group, somehow), he certainly retained them. Endeavor may be bad at training, but the private tutors he hired certainly weren't.
"So, would you be open to seeing me again after this?" Hawks asked, picking up both of their plates to wash.
The dove raised an eyebrow, "Depends. What did you have in mind?"
He chuckled at the former's expression, "Well, there's a hero expo later today. One day only. Each hero can bring a plus one. Figured you probably don't have much to do, anyhow, and I don't exactly have people lining up to go with me. Interested?"
"I bet if you made it public that you needed a plus one, your fangirls would prove you wrong on that last bit." Dabi smiled, sipping some water.
Hawks sighed, "Yeah, but it would be no fun bringing some chick I don't know."
"Fine."
