Letting Me In

"Does it have something to do with him, Adele?" Molly put her hand on her waist. "Here we go again."

"It's about my parents too." Adeline looked down. "I have to pay for my father's debt and my parents plan on ge-getting divorced..."

"How about the confession?"

Adeline shook her head. "Nicholas... he never...felt that way. I don't ex-expect him to..."

Abigail handed her a glass of water. "Aren't you suppose to be working for your father? What happened?"

"The business closed down a few years ago and they didn't want to bother me so they borrowed ten million dollars from Nicholas' parents." Adeline covered her face. "My father used that money to gamble, hoping that he'd win, but he just lost everything in a blink of an eye..."

"All those things must've happened on the same day. That's just too much..."

"I don't wanna see any of them! Why d-did it all have to happen at the same time? I don't deserve this..."

"You just need some time for yourself." Jacob smiled. "I you feel uncomfortable here, then I can book a—"

"If Molly and Abigail is fine with me living in their apartment, then I wouldn't want to go anywhere else." Adeline stood up as rain started running down the window beside her.

"You're always welcomed here." Abigail held her hand. "You can stay as long as you want."

"You three were able to get a job on the spot. I can't just stay here without contributing to anything..."

"How about working for my father's company?"

"Wh-What...? What if he doesn't—"

"Since the company Molly and Jacob are working for aren't recruiting any fresh graduates, why don't you try working for my family's company?"

"Uhhh..." Adeline scratched her head. "I don't think that's a good idea. What if the HR department refuses to employ me?"

"Really Adele?" Abigail bursted into laughter. "I took up Human Resources in college remember?"

"You haven't even tried—"

"It doesn't matter. I know that you're an earnest woman."

"Well...if you say so...then I'll take the opportunity. Thank you, Abby."

"I'll try to help you as much as I can, I promise."

Molly interrupted, "Adele, have you told your parents that you'd be—"

"I-I actually ran away from home." Adeline looked away. "I don't think the-they've realized that I'm gone..."

"I'm guessing you won't be telling them anything about your job."

"They can't contact me." Adeline winked. "I've blocked all of them."

"Adele!"

"What? I'm sorry, okay? I had no choice. I couldn't face any of them."

Molly gave her a thumbs up. "What a prudent decision!" She gave her a round of applause.

"Really?" Adeline rolled her eyes. "I thought that you'd chastise me for being such a moron."

"They'll be looking for you." Jacob sat down on the dinning table. "You won't be able to hide."

"I know them more than anyone in this world. Trust me, Jacob. They won't even have a single clue of where I am."

Meanwhile...

(At Nicholas' house)

"When was the last time you saw her?" Nicholas started walking around in circles. "Adeline could've have gone too far."

"She never came out of her room ever since the day I told her about the divorce. This morning I went up to check on her, but found out that she-she was gone..." Carol sobbed. Her throat felt swollen and she stuttered as she tried to speak the words in her head. "Wh-What if something happens to her? It's not safe in the streets these days! I've been hearing many rap—"

"Calm down." Dave patted her back. "It's our fault anyway. We told her everything all at once and we didn't even think about how she'd feel."

"She confessed to me on the same day." Nicholas scratched his head. "I-I'm sorry for hurting her... I suppose you're aware of Adeline's feelings for me."

"Maybe you guys aren't meant to be." Carol smiled, giving him a hug. "Sometimes we see things that aren't meant to be seen."

"About Ella... We already broke up...so—"

"She'll learn to let go soon enough." Dave patted his shoulder. "My daughter's big enough to make her own decisions... I just hope that she'll find someone who'll love her not because of who she is, but because who she is with him..."
