Chapter 3: Qingshan Camp

The "Magic List" on page three contained spells that a Druid could learn.

With her current level, she was able to learn level 0 and level 1 spells.

She glanced through a few of the simplest level 0 spells before silently giving up.

Spells were harder to learn than skills, consisting of completely unfamiliar knowledge and requiring lots of practice. She needed to find a safe place to study them first.

Although it was much more troublesome, Mu Ying felt more at ease in her heart. Only the things she learned solidly were truly hers. Relying solely on a Doomsday Game from who knows where was really unsettling; she even planned to practice the three languages more.

The following pages detailed "Item Identification," useful for appraising items. Flipping through the forum interface, there was a gray leaderboard area at the top of the page that hadn't opened up yet, and the public chat area below, although accessible, was completely empty.

She guessed that not many people had obtained the game qualification by now, and even those who had probably didn't have the opportunity to send messages on it. It was better to check the internet than to look for information here.

At this thought, Mu Ying reached into her pocket for her phone but felt nothing. "Eh? I clearly put it in here, and I even took it out to check the time not long ago. It couldn't have fallen out, could it?"

Upon further consideration, she found it unlikely. The phone was large, and her hand had always been in her pocket until the meteor appeared. There was nothing around her; could it have simply vanished into thin air?

Forget it, with something like the Doomsday Game appearing, it was fairly normal for a phone to disappear.

Mu Ying ran to the edge of the lookout again and peered down to see a tragic scene on the more crowded mountain paths. She could faintly hear screams carried by the wind.

From what she had heard and seen before, a zombie was supposed to appear next to each person. Killing the zombie would grant them the qualification to play the Doomsday Game and log in. Therefore, the more crowded the area was, the more dangerous it became.

She only had a knife now, and she had been lucky to kill that zombie. Although she was experienced in forest life and could fight against a single zombie, she had no choice but to flee if there were more.

Hence, the most prudent course of action was to find a suitable place and use the Lord Token she had previously found. A territory, after all, should have some sort of protective function.

The first place that came to Mu Ying's mind was the area near Shi Yin's cave in the forest.

Some living supplies were stored there, and the area wasn't densely populated. She was also familiar with the terrain, but despite the low human presence, the deeper parts of the forest were not without dangers, including carnivorous wild animals that were more troublesome than zombies. Only the region where the Silver Wolf Pack resided was considered safe.

Usually, Shi Yin would transport her, but it would take a long time to get back on her own, so she had to give up the idea.

However, upon reflection, a territory shouldn't be too remote, or else it wouldn't attract people and would be hard to develop. If Shi Yin hadn't yet left to receive the inheritance, killing zombies would definitely be no problem, and he should be able to follow her scent to find her quickly. She could even ask him to bring some supplies over when he came.

Next, she could only look for nearby places where the population was sparse, the terrain was flat, and resources were relatively easy to obtain.

The Moon Lake Reservoir area seemed like a good option?

The Moon Lake Reservoir was also within the Forest Park, in another direction. Encircled by mountains in a valley, the reservoir was small, but the valley was vast. The woods within were dense, yet relatively flat.

There was also a trail that went there. Coming in from outside required going over a mountain, which would likely be deserted at this time.

The only downside was that it was quite far from the outside world, making it difficult to obtain supplies. However, with a bottle of water and a few loaves of bread in her bag, she should be able to survive the day.

Thinking it over, Mu Ying felt it was a suitable location. She was familiar with the roads of the Forest Park—she just had to climb up for a bit, cut through the middle of the mountainside, and then walk down the other side.

Clutching her kitchen knife, she moved swiftly through the woods. Once on the back of the mountain, she found a spot with a clear view to look down. The crescent-shaped Moon Lake below was indeed very quiet, with hardly anyone around.

It wasn't until she neared the lake that she discovered a military green tent in the woods, with overturned folding chairs and tables next to it. Closer to the lake, there were buckets and fishing rods.

Their owner was presumably someone who had been night fishing here and got attacked by zombies in the morning while fishing, losing an arm and becoming infected, now wandering near the tent.

Two zombies, a bit of a challenge. Also, being bitten by a zombie really did turn one into a zombie. Close combat with her short kitchen knife was too risky.

However, the underbrush and thorns in the forest were quite dense. Even if the zombies spotted Mu Ying and followed her, they would have a hard time keeping up. It seemed they could only walk straight towards her, tripping over obstacles several times, and their pace was slow, about the same as a person's normal walking speed.

Mu Ying shook them off and ran towards the source of the Moon Lake Reservoir, finding a suitable place and using the Lord Token directly.

"Let's just call it Qingshan since it's near Qingshan Forest," Mu Ying quickly typed in the two characters for Qingshan.

The Player Manual acquired an additional page titled "Territory Construction."

A sparse list of information greeted her, nothing at all like the spread of the protective shield she had imagined upon constructing a territory; it seemed the Lord Token had been used in solitude.

Although territory facilities could also be generated with the click of a button like in the game, they required energy, materials, and blueprints, with only 300 energy points to start with.

There were preset facility templates in the blueprints, and lords could design their own or exchange them for ready-made blueprints.

Whether transforming design into usable blueprints or utilizing the game's preset facility templates, a certain cost in energy had to be paid according to the blueprint's specifications.

Now, without saying anything else, she needed to get a protective shield to encircle the territory first.

Mu Ying opened the blueprint column and directly checked the available Territory Shield template, which there was only one kind of.

Mu Ying transformed the blueprint and began construction directly, temporarily leaving the style unchanged, still invisible.

A circle of transparent energy spread out, forming an invisible protective shield which quickly vanished from sight, but Mu Ying could sense the boundaries of the shield.

She walked to the edge and tried to attack with a kitchen knife, finding she could attack from inside to the outside, but couldn't attack from the outside in.

With this layer of protective shield, she felt a bit safer, though it only defended against Level 1 and below attacks. Since the zombies were all only Level 1, and she had not encountered any stronger monsters yet, it was sufficient for the time being.
