Disappearing Wound

The blaring of Eleanor's alarm shattered the stillness of the morning, jolting her from a deep slumber. With a groan, she fumbled for her phone, squinting at the bright screen to check the time. Dread washed over her as she realized she had overslept once again. In a flurry of motion, she leaped out of bed, the urgency of another chaotic morning propelling her into action.

"Blast it! Not again," Eleanor muttered under her breath as she darted around her apartment, hastily gathering her belongings. The clock displayed 9 a.m., a looming lecture at 10 a.m. urging her forward. The window of time grew narrower by the minute.

Grabbing only a granola bar, Eleanor dashed out the door, heart racing in tandem with the ticking clock. Each passing second felt like an eternity as she raced towards the bus stop, determined to defy the relentless march of time. The city streets buzzed with activity, but Eleanor's focus remained laser-sharp as she weaved through the throngs of pedestrians.

Amidst the hustle, Eleanor's gaze caught a small figure in the distance—a child standing in the street, oblivious to the danger.

"Hey, kid! Move!" she shouted, her voice cutting through the cacophony of the street.

The child's gaze widened in sudden alarm, locking onto Eleanor's frantic gestures. As Eleanor raced towards him, time slowed, her heart pounding. Each second stretched infinitely, her heart thundering.

As Eleanor sprinted towards him, her mind raced with fear and urgency. 'Please, let me reach him in time,' she pleaded silently. Her heart pounded against her ribcage, each beat echoing the urgency of the moment. Just as the child turned towards her, a deafening roar filled the air, drowning out her thoughts as a massive truck barreled down the street.

With a final burst of speed, Eleanor reached the child, scooping them into her arms just as the truck thundered past, mere inches away. The child, now safe but visibly shaken, clung to Eleanor, their sobs blending with the sound of screeching tires and blaring horns.

The surrounding pedestrians gasped, their breath catching in their throats as they witnessed the near-tragedy unfold before their eyes. A hushed silence fell over the street, broken only by the collective sigh of relief that swept through the crowd like a gentle breeze.

Eleanor knelt down, her heart pounding in her chest as she reassured the trembling child before her. "Are you okay? You should never wander into the road like that," she said, her voice a soothing melody amidst the chaos.

The child nodded, tears streaming down their face, their tiny frame shaking with fear and shock.

Just as Eleanor was about to guide the child to safety, another truck rumbled towards them. Before she could react, the truck skidded to a stop, narrowly avoiding the duo. However, in the chaos, Eleanor felt a sudden, sharp pain in her side.

"Ouch," she winced, clutching her side.

Wide-eyed and trembling, the child stared at Eleanor, their tiny hands clutching her shirt as if seeking reassurance from the chaotic world around them.

Anxious murmurs bubbled up from the crowd, their collective worry hanging heavy in the air. "Oh Jesus! You're hurt. There's a lot of blood on your waist," one bystander exclaimed, their voice tinged with panic.

A concerned passerby called for an ambulance, panic spreading through the crowd. Eleanor, though, remained remarkably composed despite the apparent severity of her injury.

"It's just a scratch," she assured those around her, although her voice sounded weaker than she intended.

The child's mother embraced her child tightly, Eleanor felt a swell of emotion in her chest. "Thank you! Thank you so much!" the mother's voice trembled with gratitude. Eleanor swallowed hard, feeling the weight of the moment. "I'm just glad I could help," she replied, her own voice tinged with emotion. "Make sure to keep a close eye on this little adventurer here," she added, her gaze lingering on the child.

The child's father, still visibly shaken, added, "Thank you so much! We'll never forget what you've done for our family."

"Hey, are you okay?" a concerned bystander pointed out, their voice filled with alarm as they noticed the blood on Eleanor's waist. "You're bleeding! Someone call an ambulance!"

Eleanor waved off the concern, trying to downplay the situation, "It's nothing, just a scratch. I'll be fine."

However, the visible concern did not dissipate. The child's parents, now realizing Eleanor's condition, were torn between their relief and worry for her.

The shrill sound of sirens pierced the air, sending ripples of alarm through the gathered crowd. Murmurs of concern rippled through the onlookers as they watched the ambulance tear through the busy street, its flashing lights casting an eerie glow against the surrounding buildings.

With a sense of urgency, paramedics spilled out of the vehicle, their movements swift and purposeful as they raced towards Eleanor's side. "You've been hurt. Let us take a look," one of the paramedics urged, gently guiding Eleanor to sit on the ambulance's stretcher.

The paramedics examined Eleanor, a hushed silence fell over the crowd, their collective gaze fixed on the unfolding mystery before them. The paramedics' brows furrowed in confusion as their eyes fell upon the terrible wound on Eleanor's waist. Their exchanged glances spoke volumes, conveying their bewilderment at the inexplicable sight before them.

"I've never seen anything like this. Are you really not in pain?" one of the paramedic queried, his voice tinged with disbelief, as if searching for confirmation that what they were witnessing was indeed real.

"We can't just leave her here. Let's get her to the hospital and figure this out," the team leader decided, his voice firm with resolve.

Eleanor was whisked into the bustling emergency room, the flurry of activity enveloping her in a whirlwind of urgency. The medical professionals bustled about, their faces a blur of focused determination as they prepared to examine her.

With a mix of apprehension and hope, Eleanor awaited their assessment. The lead doctor approached, his calm demeanor authoritative as he scanned her for signs of injury. After a thorough examination, the doctor's expression softened with confusion. "I can't explain it. There's no sign of injury," he said, his voice tinged with disbelief."

The paramedic who had accompanied Eleanor in the ambulance stood nearby, their expression a mirror of the confusion that permeated the room, as if grappling to comprehend the inexplicable turn of events. "What?! How can that be?" said one of the paramedic.

"At the location of the incident we have checked the patient, and she has a wound on her waist, and it is very deep." said another paramedic.

The doctor was confused and disbelieving, "What do you mean? After I cleaned the blood, there was no sign of a wound at all."

The two paramedics were very confused and surprised. "Let me show you the wound" said one of the paramedics who was still in disbelief.

Once in the Emergency Room with Eleanor, the paramedic wanted to show Eleanor the wound on her waist. But when they tried to show her, the wound had disappeared, as if there was no previous wound, it had healed.

The two paramedics were speechless and rubbed their eyes to see clearly again. But the wound was gone.

Not only were the paramedics surprised, Eleanor also looked confused and shocked. On the ambulance ride, she actually saw the wound she had on her waist. But now, the wound had healed.

"Ha? Doctor, the wound is gone. How can that be?" surprised Eleanor as she touched her waist.

"What do you mean? No kidding!" The doctor was stunned.

"We're not kidding! We actually saw it. We even treated it and put a bandage around the patient's waist." explained one of the paramedics.

Eleanor, still in disbelief, tapped her waist as if expecting to find answers beneath her fingertips. 'How can this be?' she muttered to herself.

The medical professionals convened, their curiosity piqued by Eleanor's inexplicable condition. As they discussed her case, theories were proposed and debated, but no conclusive answers were reached. The mystery of Eleanor's disappearing wound remained unsolved, a puzzle that defied explanation.

Eleanor lay on the examination bed in the sterile hospital room, the medical professionals buzzed around her, their voices a whirlwind of confusion and concern. Time seemed to stretch as they examined her, each moment fraught with tension as they tried to make sense of the inexplicable.

"Miss, can you describe what happened? How did you end up bleeding?" a doctor inquired, flipping through his medical chart.

Eleanor recounted what happened to her, emphasizing that it was just a minor incident. The medical team exchanged bewildered glances, their furrowed brows and hushed murmurs betraying their inability to comprehend the inexplicable nature of Eleanor's condition.

"I can't wrap my head around it," a doctor muttered, her voice tinged with disbelief. He glanced at her colleagues, seeking validation for her confusion. "There was blood, but there's no wound. It's like the injury vanished into thin air."

As the medical examination continued, a sense of unease lingered in the air. The medical professionals huddled together, their voices low as they debated Eleanor's case. Each word carried the weight of their uncertainty, highlighting the inexplicable nature of her condition.

Eleanor's ears caught snippets of the medical professionals' hushed conversation. Frowning, she turned to the nurse beside her.

'What's happening? Do they have any clue?' Eleanor's voice betrayed a mix of curiosity and concern, mirroring the uncertainty in the room.

The doctor, still adjusting a bandage that covered the nonexistent wound, shook his head. "Honestly, I've never seen anything like this. Are you sure you don't know how this happened?"

Eleanor shook her head.

The medical professionals concluded their discussions. Eleanor, now free to leave, couldn't ignore the lingering sense of unreality that hung in the air.

Stepping out of the hospital's sterile confines, Eleanor carried with her a lingering sense of disbelief, like a fog that refused to dissipate. The city streets sprawled before her, bustling with activity as if oblivious to the inner turmoil that churned within her. The sun, casting long, languid shadows across the pavement, painted the world in hues of amber and gold, a stark contrast to the chaos of her thoughts.

She absentmindedly touched her waist, half-expecting to feel the phantom pain from the vanished wound. A mix of confusion and wonder clouded her thoughts as she navigated through the familiar streets. Eleanor's ears buzzed with the echo of hushed conversations among the medical staff, their murmurs like distant thunder in her mind. Faces etched with concern flickered in her memory, each expression a silent testament to the inexplicable.

As Eleanor walked, her phone buzzed in her pocket. Pulling it out, she saw Alex's name on the screen. Answering the call,

"Ellie, what time did you finish your class? Are you working today?" Alex asked.

Eleanor stopped and was silent for a moment. A few seconds later, she realized that she had a lecture and had already missed an hour and a half.

The sudden recollection of her missed class triggered an outburst from Eleanor. "Arghhh... I have a morning class. Oh, Jesus, come on," she exclaimed.

"What do you mean, where are you? You're not in class?" asked Alex in confusion.

Eleanor told Alex what happened to her this morning.

The concern was palpable as Alex listened to Eleanor's account of the morning's events. "Another strange incident! Why didn't you call me? Where are you now?"

"I'm fine. Now I'm gonna go home and get ready for work," Eleanor calmed Alex. "Oh yeah, can you go to my class and tell me I can't attend the class because of an accident?" Eleanore asked Alex.

"Okay, I'll tell them," Alex replied.

"Thank you, Alex. I'm okay. So, there's no need to worry. That's it, I'm hanging up the call. See you." said Eleanor.

Eleanor couldn't shake off the feeling that her life had become a series of inexplicable events. As she walked through the city streets, her mind raced with questions. 'I've been experiencing some strange things lately. So I'm already not too surprised by this incident.' she mused, a wry smile tugging at the corners of her lips. 'But this is a miracle. How did this wound disappear? It's crazy.'
