Ataz continued to move desperately in the man's hand, trying to break free. When the knife had almost reached the cat's small body, something caused the knife to not even touch him
"What?" The man spoke quietly, confused.
The hand of the man who held the knife covered the view of the cat's face, but it did not feel the knife piercing any skin, and looking at the cat's belly, there was no blood running. The cat hadn't even screamed. He would not die instantly.
Stevan was startled for a few seconds, but again, now angrier, he pushed with his arm, trying to hit the cat with the knife, however, it was as if a barrier prevented Stevan from touching the knife to him.
Irritated, he didn't even look at the cat but at the knife and his arm, trying to understand what was wrong. He moved his arm, wanting to see if his clothes had gotten tangled in something, but he found nothing. Apparently everything was normal.
He tried to strike the cat several times, but nothing happened.
When looking back at the cat, it was different from before; he was no longer moving to try to free himself. Now Ataz was completely still, as if he were dead, just staring at him with the pupils almost completely filling his eyes, however, his iris was now purple and the man could see, almost transparently, a small trail of magic coming out of the eyes of the animal, as if it were purple smoke.
As if hypnotized, Ataz began to utter softly "et comminuet, eorum quasi favilla erit" over and over, without taking his eyes off the man, however, Stevan could not understand what the cat was saying, only hearing some strange, low meows coming out of his mouth of the animal.
Stevan was startled and instantly shook Ataz, trying to get the animal to react. Still with the knife in his hand, pointing at the animal, he began to feel a terrible pain in his wrist. He looked at the hand holding the knife and began to notice that it was starting to turn purple, as if something was preventing the blood from passing through Stevan's hand.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!"
Without thinking, the man released both the cat and the knife, holding the wrist with the other hand, while feeling his arm being squeezed and becoming more and more purple as he screamed in pain.
Because of the magic, the time it took for the man's hand to begin to rot was happening extremely fast.
Ataz fell on all fours and continued to stare at him, enjoying the scene in which the man writhed in pain as he saw his own hand slowly rotting. Ataz's eyes shone more and more and, walking slowly, each step the cat took towards the man, Stevan's wrist was tightened more tightly, and the noise of the man's bones could be heard cracking.
He agonized on the floor and crawled to the door, moving his legs, holding his wrist, begging the cat to stop doing whatever it was he was doing, but Ataz just ignored him and continued to feel the delicious taste of pain and torture he hadn't known could be so pleasant.
'Why do I like to hear him scream so much?' The cat thought as it sucked the life out of the man's hand each moment his hand rotted more.
The man, who had dropped the knife on the floor realizing that the pain would not stop, thought that the only way to get rid of his suffering would be to kill the animal. He started to move his leg towards the knife that was lying on the floor. Ana, who was paralyzed, noticed the recent action of the man, who was moving with difficulty, and ran towards the knife, stepping on it and preventing the man from being able to grab it.
He looked at her, despair in his eyes, asking for mercy. Ana looked at him with disgust. It was almost possible to see a little sadism in the girl, but she was not that bad… still quite different from the cat.
She took a step in front of the animal, preventing Ataz from continuing to walk towards the man, and took the knife with one hand, while staring coldly at the man. She pointed the knife at him and then pointed at the door, indicating that he should leave if he didn't want his arm to be completely torn apart. Ataz, shielded by Ana's body, continued to stare at Stevan with that dead look behind the girl's legs.
Ana's front door burst open on its own and Stevan, with great difficulty, got up and ran out of the apartment, desperately pressing the button for the elevator, which, luckily, was already positioned on that floor.
He ran inside while holding his wrist, preventing himself from falling.
Ana ran towards the door, slamming it shut and supporting her back against the door. She slid down to sit on the floor, sighing.
Ataz was sitting, feeling his eyes return to normal. He had barely sucked any energy since the only thing dying was just a big hand, so he didn't feel tired like before, just a little dizzy.
Ana, after the shock, realizing what had happened, quickly got up and looked at Ataz, scared. "What are you?" she asked while looking at him with fear.
Ataz showed no fear or insecurity about Ana finding out about his magic. He knew it would be simple to end her life if something went wrong. She couldn't report it to anyone because she would be considered crazy, in the same way that no one would believe Stevan. Even if he left with a crushed and almost totally rotten hand, Ana, with the small size she had, could never have done something like that, and he wouldn't risk having his sanity questioned to denounce the adorable little cat.
"I knew there was something weird about you... Anyway, thanks for helping me with that guy," she said, still shaking, but smiling. Ana walked towards the kitchen, going to wash the knife that had fallen on the floor.
The cat jumped on the table and gently stirred the pot with its paw, indicating that it would be hungry. Ana looked back and took the jar in her hand. "But it's full... Did you not like it?" she said while looking at him.
Ataz expressed no reaction at that moment. So many things had happened that the feline could only think of what it would eat next.
Ana then started to prepare some eggs while the cat rested on her table. Ataz started to think about the things that had happened since the moment he had come to this new era. He needed to investigate more about his magic, because of things that had happened like that morning. That guy wasn't even an enemy of his and had tried to kill him, which didn't make sense to him. Ana hadn't even met him until the day before; how could he be something of such value for her to worry over his life being threatened?
In addition, he was lucky to have managed to absorb the monster's mana from the park. If not, he could be dead at that moment. Ataz had to start going after training his new magic. Even though he knew some necromancy spells, it was still too little for what he imagined was coming.
The man who stared at him, who appeared to have no face, was probably not even their master, but just a hired gun commanded to order what the damned did. A real master would not risk appearing in public to get rid of a weak wizard, especially one that was a cat.
"But then... Do you understand me?" Ana cut off the cat's thoughts, leaving the plate of scrambled eggs in front of him. "Like, that's why you played on the computer yesterday, right? Because you know what I'm talking about?"
Ataz looked at the girl, understanding, but before he could think to answer, the smell of scrambled eggs gently touched the cat's nostrils, causing him to just lower his head and eat in joy the food.
