So we had officially settled. My maids and I that is, settled on an off the shoulder strapless beige gown with matching shoes and gloves. My hair was neatly tied into a bun, leaving a few curled strands on each side of my face to give my look an authentic and. refreshing look.
To top it off, I didn't apply makeup to add a natural glow to my look because the theme was a refreshing summer look and I think we out did ourselves especially considering that I was woken up early just for this.
It was time to head out because the party was set to start an hour from now, and we had to give the carriage ample time to get there so that we would arrive on time and not be late on my first outing.
Making my way to the carriage, I bumped into Master Evans, and I politely bowed to greet him," Master Evans, good morning."
" Why are you still addressing me like that? Call me father-in-law. I know that we have not thrown a grand ball to finalize the wedding, but I already take you as a part of this family." He said with a teasing smile. If people were not used to him, from afar, he looked very scary and unapproachable. However, his personality was completely different from his stone hearted son, which was cold and truly unapproachable. Ryan's father, my soon-to-be father-in-law, had a very welcoming personality, which could easily make people feel at ease.
" I will take note of that. Thank you for your kind words, father-in-law." I said, calling him father-in-law just as he requested.
Master Evans laughed and said," Now, that's my daughter-in-law. What are you being shy for, I specifically chose you for that horrible son of mine, Where is he anyway?" he complained
" I last saw him two days ago, I believe he has officially returned to his post by the border." I said respectfully. I said "officially" because the last time he left and abruptly came back to sort out the issue with his late wife's cause of death investigation.
" Oh, that ungrateful son. I get him a good wife, and he decides to drag his feet when it comes to officiating your relationship. " He said as he furrowed his eyebrows and rubbed his temple just like Ryan does, like father like son indeed!
" I am sure maybe he might be very busy with military work, and as soon as he is done, he will certainly do the right thing." I said, putting a good word for him.
Master Evans laughed very heartily as his mood improved because of what I said," See, you are truly fit to be a duchess. You even know how to stand up for your husband."
" Not at all, master- I mean father-in-law, Anyone would have said what I said because it is true." I said modestly
" True or not, that good for nothing, son of mine, should know what's more important between family and work." He said with a 'Hmph'
" In any case, is my daughter in law going somewhere today?" he asked
" Yes, I was invited to a tea party." I responded
" Oh? Interesting, very interesting. Isn't so, Roger?" He said to his attendant close to him, leaving me perplexed.
" Yes Master, it is. The duchess look splendid, so naturally, our Duke's residence has to be worried about potential suitors, especially since their marriage is not official." Roger said
" Exactly! Who's attending the tea party? Do you know? Roger, call that useless son of mine, tell him to escort his wife to this event, hurry, hurry." Master Evans said and I didn't know whether to cry or laugh, though my marriage with Ryan was not officiated with the King's letter or by the court, it was still known that l, Charlotte was a married woman, and who would dare to pursue me when I have the Duke's last name?
I laughed lightly and said, " Father in law is exaggerating, though i don't know from which households only ladies are expected to attend the party today so bringing Ryan would not be convenient for either of us and how can he accompany me to an unofficial event such as this one? "
" Er, er, well, alright. Be careful on the road, and if you meet any troubles at all along the road, just use that rascal's name. He may be useless in many aspects, but his name has a lot of weight." Master Evans said, and I almost burst out laughing from his comment.
Feeling amused, I smiled and said, " I will do so father in law, thank you. I will be leaving now, goodbye." I said as I bowed and made my way to the carriage.
