Artwork: https://twitter.com/dodaydust/status/777141615328567296 _____________________________________________________ During Gon's and Killua's stay in the NGL, they get to meet a rather unusual character. A two-star hunter by the name of Ashton. Btw, the stars are not decided by strength, but by contribution to society. Romance will be later in the series btw. This is a HxH fanfic starting at the beginning of the Chimera Arc.

Time Passed

__________ POV Ashton__________

It has already been two months since Momoze officially became my lover.

And, in all honesty, not much has changed in our relationship. I guess we've always been pretty close, we are just a bit more affectionate now.

We have yet to fully commit to the relationship, but that was merely due to the lacking time we have to spend with one another.

Especially since many ongoing projects need to be administrated. Both of us are extremely busy.

She also managed to learn a few basic Nen techniques. Although her talent isn't all that great, it is still sufficient to become a decent Nen User.

On another note, I have already started looking into the reproductive system of the Ant Queen. I need to find ways to make myself stronger.

I want to at least be powerful enough to stand against my teacher. As I am now, I can only repel him momentarily and postpone the inevitable.

After all, if one day whatever holds the beasts inside the Dark Continent disappears, that would be the end of humanity. For good this time.

I'm unsure if that will ever happen, but since the Abyss beings have already started moving, it's not farfetched to believe that they'd want their strongest servants to also arrive and help them.

I need to prepare the defences of these cities accordingly. Underground bunkers have already started construction a month ago. I need to find a proper way to preserve humanity.

There have been many things happening besides that.

For one, the Zodiacs that were sent with the messages have returned. They didn't get any response from anyone, but that was to be expected.

Regardless, if they got the messages, then they were going to be coming towards the New Continent.

The journey wasn't quite as perilous as it was with the Black Whale.

As long as they were going to use normal sized ships, then they were going to be fine.

Other than that, the order in the cities has been restored, as some of the patients were cured of Shakti and returned to their families.

I checked them thoroughly and made sure that nothing would happen if they were to be released. Slowly, the infected population had started receding.

That Nen Exorcist is being a bit overworked, but I also help her from time to time, so the workload is never too much.

For now, the quarantine camps have almost been emptied. And slowly, they started building the infrastructure for a fourth city inside the camp.

The workers are obviously separated from the infected properly. And everyone that comes and goes is thoroughly inspected in special checkpoints.

Things are going quite well... A bit too well if you ask me...

__________ POV Narration__________

The Zoldyck Compound, as well as the remainders of the Hunter Association that was holding up in the mansion with the Chimaera Ants all, received Ashton's letters.

They all decide to prepare for the journey after thinking of it for a bit.

The Hunters and Chimaera ants didn't take much time for consideration, they were already preparing to move when they received that message.

Around 600 Nen Users had all started preparing to leave Lake Mobius. Most of the Association had managed to survive the spread of Shakti. They were all Licenced Nen Users, and they were all quite powerful in their own right.

There were also around 3000 civilians with them, mainly the staff that had been working at the Association. The group mostly kept to itself, as they didn't have space or resources to look for more survivors.

Morel, Knov and Kite were leading that group. It wasn't hard for them to find transportation. Most people just entered Knov's space pocket and the rest took smaller ships.

They actually managed to set sail only a week after they received the written message from Ashton. But, with their slow ships, they still had to slowly sail their way to the New Continent.

The Zoldycks expedition, however, was bound to be much more difficult. Thankfully, they were all very capable.

They had an entire city worth of people to move and provide resources for during the trip.

In total, they had around 40000 people. That number was too high to carry on a single cruise ship. Therefore, the Zoldyck family had to steal around 4 of them. As well as 2 large cargo ships.

The cargo ships could accommodate a maximum of around 10000 people, while the cruise ships capped at around 5000.

Not to say that resources were hard to gather and extremely scarce. Most of the people would go hungry for days during the expedition. They couldn't exactly carry enough food after all.

So, the preparations for their departure took around 3 weeks. Just escorting the civilians to the ships took them a week. As well as repeated trips using personal and stolen blimps.

They had done everything in record time, and they had successfully slipped by without much of an issue...

The only thing that the Zoldycks found unnerving was the distinct lack of people on the streets.

In Ashton's message, he specifically asked the Zoldycks to scout a few cities. They needed to know what exactly was happening on Lake Mobius.

Maha himself handled the scouting of several cities while the servants and the rest of the family, including Gon and Killua, handled finding ships and escorting the civilians.

Even with all of them busy. They still had order among the citizens, as the servants had taken their time to scarcely train a group of militia to guard the base camp.

None of them was Nen users, but they were just tasked with patrolling around and keeping the peace. So there was no need for them to actually be powerful.

In the end, Maha was unable to find any people in the cities, infected or otherwise. He discovered their tracks, countless people all going in a single direction.

He followed it for a bit, only to find a seemingly bottomless pit. Looking down, he could see that it was filled with bodies.

The old assassin remained unphased by that sight. He simply retreated quickly and reported his findings to the rest of his family.

The crater itself was not a new thing to Maha. It was the explosion in which the King of Chimaera Ants was said to have died.

Now, it was the resting place of countless people. Maha theorised that there were many places like this in the world currently. 'Mass Suicide Zones'.

On the good side, their expedition was not met with any conflicts. Although the logistics of it in itself were quite hard to handle.

But, unfortunately. Not everything was going to go as smoothly on the water as it did on land.
