All of traces of her had been wiped clean, the Fiat found in an anonymous parking lot, his gun stolen, her apartment empty, her world as he knew it gone. Martin Parrish, too, had slipped under the radar, assumed now to be in South America despite his thwarted attempt to procure stolen art. Only Julian Ferrer had been apprehended as he tried to cross into Italy. The authorities could now charge him with multiple felonies, theft of fine art, stolen identities...and the list went on.
The directors of both the European and North American sectors of Interpol also slapped sanctions on Agent Ross Brenner. The least of all had been the dereliction of duty and mission aborted, and the worse, the loss of his service Glock 9mm. Instead of accepting demotion and a permanent mark on his record, Ross decided to resign. He felt he no longer deserved to call himself an officer of the law; and with bittersweet regret, he turned in his badge.
