First day

Yashiro woke up and stretched into a yawn, slightly confused as to why his alarm hadn't gone off but also relieved because it meant more sleep.

The relief was short lived as he tried to check the time on his phone and discovered that it was turned off.

He had not charged it overnight.

'Shit', he said, loudly, as he frantically searched for a device that had the time on it and found his watch. 9:43 A.M.

'Oh, for crying out loud. Why does this always happen to me?' He moaned, as he ran towards the bathroom.

He was out 10 minutes later. It took him another 5 to get ready and he grabbed his phone as he headed out. Then it dawned on him that in all the commotion, he still hadn't charged his phone. So he ran back in and angrily snatched his charger from the socket and stormed out of the house.

Yashiro got to school 40 minutes later. He checked the time on his watch. 10:40 A.M

[I'm in so much trouble] he thought to himself. [First day of school and I'm this late I should've told mum to wake me up before she left].

He looked at his timetable, which told him the room he was meant to be in and that he had 20 minutes of Maths left.

He got to the front of the door and knocked twice.

'Come in' the teacher said, with an accent he did not recognise.

He walked in and all eyes were on him and the class was as silent as a graveyard.

'Really sorry for my lateness sir, it won't happen again'

'What's your name young man?' The teacher asked, looking extremely disappointed.

'Yashiro Katsui'

'well, Yashiro, you have just earned a nice little detention after school. Go take a sit'

Yashiro turned around, looking for an available seat while trying to avoid eye contact with any of his classmates and found an empty space at the back and quickly went there.

The rest of the lesson went by quickly and break time came, he met up with Rando at the canteen.

'I can't believe I was late again' Yashiro said to Rando.

'Didn't you set an alarm?'

'I did but I didn't switch the socket on, so my phone didn't charge '

Rando laughed. 'These things really only happen to you. What lesson have you got left? I'm done for the day '

Before Yashiro could reply, there was a loud crash at the other end of the dinner Hall, as a tray of food hit the floor, followed by chants of students around saying, 'fight, fight, fight'.

In the middle of the Crowd, stood Onari Reiju, a tall and muscular boy with dark hair and an extremely short temper, and Dota Amaku, the complete opposite of Onari, not too tall, with blonde hair and always kept his cool.

He had his hands in the pockets of his trousers and was staring at Onari with a neutral expression.

'BASTARD!' Onari yelled, as he started running towards Dota. He closed his fists and lunged at him at a considerably fast speed.

Dota still had his hands in his pockets, standing perfectly still with a slight smile on his face.

Suddenly a gust of wind which appeared to come out of nowhere slammed into Onari while he was still in mid air and sent him flying across the room, crashing into one of the pillars supporting the building.

Onari got up slowly, enraged.

Majority of the metallic objects in the room; knives, forks, trays and trolleys started rising around him.

'That's enough' a deep and authoritative voice said from the background.

Everyone looked around to see who it was and found the new principal standing at the entrance of the dinner Hall.

He was a very large and well built man who looked like he could crush a watermelon in his hands.

'Both of you, in my office. NOW!'.

At that, all the objects around Onari started to drop slowly to the ground. Dota chuckled and walked out of the hall, heading to the principals office.

'Before you come into my office Mr Reiju, clean up this mess and make sure everything is where it's meant to be and use that time to calm yourself down. You have 5 minutes'.

Dota walked up the stairs leading to the principals office, entered the room and sat down waiting for the principal and Onari to come.

He looked around the small office, trying to see what the principal was like.

There were two desks placed in the office, one for a desktop near the wall at the back of the room and one in front, where Dota assumed formal meetings happened.

On the desk in front, he saw a place card on the desk with the name "Hagari Saka", a picture showing a woman and three little girls.

At the top of the desktop table were little paintings, which Dota assumed were from one of his three daughters. A quote printed on the frame hung on the wall caught Dota's attention, "Education is the kindling of a flame, not the filling of a vessel".

A family man, and a fan of philosophy. Interesting, Dota thought to himself, still looking around the room.

The principal walked in and went straight to the point.

'Its the first day of term and you're already in my office, violating not one, but two major rules. What do you have to say for yourself?' he asked, as he sat on the opposite side of the front desk.

'Well Mr Hagari, he attacked me, and I merely defended myself and as you well know, "Every action has its pleasures, and its price".

The principal was slightly taken back at this statement, he adjusted his seat and said,

'Philosophy. I am impressed. However, it doesn't change the fact that you used your powers on school grounds'.

At this, Onari walked in with his fists still clenched and avoided Dota's gaze. The principal continued.

'I am new at this school, and i'm not trying to have students hate me on my first official day, so I will overlook this irresponsible act from the both of you. I don't care what happened but if this repeats itself, there will be severe and dire consequences. Now go enjoy the rest of your day i need to eat'.

Onari grunted and was the first out of the door, muttering inaudible words under his breath as he left. Dota got up and smiled, nodded his head and said, 'Have a nice day sir, and, welcome to Blue River High School'.

Yashiro walked out of the detention and had an expression on his face that suggested he was annoyed. He spotted Rando outside the school gates sitting on a park bench eating burgers and went to sit with him.

'how long have you been here for?' Yashiro asked, as he took a seat beside Rando.

'not long, I went to the gym. I got here like 20 minutes ago. The burgers there are yours, I thought you would be hungry'

Yashiro picked up a burger and started eating, 'thanks Randy, that detention was long and pointless. Like it's the first day, cut me some slack. Fucking new teachers'

Rando laughed and teased 'I don't know what kinda idiot forgets to turn the switch on when charging their phones'. Yashiro laughed and continued eating.

After a few minutes, he spotted Dota walking out of the school gates.

'That fight today was something' Yashiro said, as he finished the last of his burgers

'yeah it really was' Rando replied, his face lighting up as he remembered the events of that day. 'Too bad Onari didn't get a chance to retaliate'

'Yeah, true. I wanted to see what he was capable of'

"Anyway, how is training going? Can you use Muscle expansion a bit better?"

Yashiro got up with a smile and said, "Come, lets go. I'll show you the improvements on the way home". Rando excitedly got up and started to follow.

They hadn't walked far when they heard a scream coming from one of the nearby parks. Both boys turned and looked at each other before instinctively running towards the direction of the scream. It was coming from a spot deep into the park away from any possible eye witnesses.

When they got there, they found 4 guys surrounding a short and curvy girl, who was on the floor crying. 'ssh ssh' one of the 4 said, 'we're all just trying to have a good time'. The others laughed in agreement as one of them started taking his belt off.

'Please!, the girl begged, i'm only 15, don't do this '

'don't worry, this isn't going to hurt' one of the thugs said and tried to touch the girl but before he could, he heard the rustling of leaves behind him and turned around.

'Steel form' Rando said, as he covered himself head to toe in thick steel sheet.

'GET YOUR FILTHY HANDS OFF HER!' he yelled, as he punched the thug so hard in the jaw that it became unhinged.

The others backed away and one of them pulled out a gun and fired 3 shots at Rando which ricocheted as they hit his skin. Rando looked at the thug who shot at him with pure anger and charged at him, hitting him in his belly, which made him double over, he then grabbed him by his hair and threw him against a tree.

The other two looked terrified and started making a run for it in separate directions. One ran towards Yashiro, the other ran deeper into the park.

Yashiro launched himself at the thug running at him as his right arm began to expand to more than 3 times its original size.

His fist covered the thugs entire face as he landed a brutal punch which instantly knocked the thug out, his body hitting the ground so hard that it left a small crater.

As Rando was about to run after the last assailant, a strong gust of wind lifted the thug up from the ground and slammed him hard against a park bench.

Dota came out and acknowledged Rando and Yashiro by nodding his head before turning and walking off. His hands, still in his pocket.

'Are you okay?' Rando asked the girl as he gave her a hand to help her get up. While simultaneously wondering what Dota was doing there.

'Yeah I'm fine thanks to you and your friends. I doubt they will be when they wake up though. I'm Rani Rimomi.

Yashiro came to join Rando ' Nice to meet you Rani' he said, as he held out his hand for Rani to shake. Rando had a reassuring smile on his face and did the same.

'We don't usually use our powers on regular humans, but guys like that really get to Yashiro and I'

The girl started to look a bit upset, "Thank you again. I might have killed them if you weren't here, see, I don't know how to control my powers and I nearly killed someone last time"

'Wait, you have powers?' Yashiro asked, looking slightly surprised.

'Yeah, my power is poison, I can do anything I want with it but I don't know how to control it and I really want to get into the Horizon Academy in a few weeks '

Rando and Yashiro smiled at each other at the mention of Horizon Academy. Rando put his hand on Rani's shoulder in an attempt to reassure her 'Well, good thing you met us then' as he broke into a soft smile 'we are currently training to get into the Academy and Ya-' he paused as he realised something.

His expression, a mixture of surprise and excitement. He looked over at Yashiro and examined him from head to toe.

Yashiro's shirt had been torn from when his arm dramatically expanded and he looked a bit rough.

'Yashiro you're not injured' the smile on his face got even wider and he punched Yashiro's arm. Yashiro laughed and scratched the back of his head, slightly embarrassed.

''Why would he be injured?" Said Rani, with a curious look on her face

Rando replied, still evidently excited "Before today, the idiot always got injured whenever he used his powers."

Rani smiled and looked at Rando and Yashiro "You guys are amazing, you both are going to get into the Academy. You took those guys down with such ease"

Yashiro smiled softly, "You will too, we'll make sure of it. Just stick with us"

'Yeah I plan on doing so. By the way, who was the blonde guy that sent that prick flying without even breaking a sweat?'

Rando replied, 'that would be the mysterious Dota'.

Yashiro laughed as the trio started to leave the park, walking in a horizontal line.

'Shouldn't someone call the ambulance for these guys?' Yashiro said, and Rando reached into his pocket, got out his phone and began calling the emergency services.

Yashiro looked over at Rani, smiled and said to himself, 'hell of a first day'.
