Trouble

'The crime statistics are getting out of hand.' The commissioner of Police, Yanagara Sashi said, whilst addressing the various police officers that were in the meeting room.

'There has been a surge of violent crime across the city these past few months. We need to do our jobs and find a way to eradicate this and make our city safe again. Just two days ago there was an attack at the park near the Blue River High school'.

At this, there were murmurs within the police officers as they began to look more concerned.

Yanagara continued, 'incident report: 4 men attacked, One with a broken jaw and neck, one with internal bleeding and fractured ribs, another with a fractured skull and fractured spine and the last of them with a concussion and a broken leg. All of them in comas. Although these men are convicted rapists, murderers and thieves, this level of brutality is totally unacceptable'

One of the top detectives in the city, Fuhira Utari spoke up and said, 'any suspects sir?'

'None at the moment. Due to the amount of damage done we think it's a gang related crime. There is also talk about powers being used as a crater was left at the scene. I'm assigning you and Yagita to the case'

Yagita Ryoshi - A woman considered to be the 2nd best Detective in the city. She pushes herself hard and is always trying to prove herself and overtake Fuhira.

"I work better alone sir" Fuhira said looking slightly surprised.

''It was an order Detective, not a request. Do not mess up, the both of you. The meeting is over. officers, get on with your day"

The detectives filed out of the meeting room with the commissioner leaving first. Some of them still talking about the incident near the school and the injuries that were sustained.

Yagita walked up to Fuhira with a serious expression on her face.

"Where do you want to start? Should we go to the scene of the crime?"

'Do what you want, just don't get in my way ' Fuhira replied, harshly.

'We were told to work this case together so that's what I plan on doing, I don't want to work with you either, you're arrogant and think you're above everyone but an order is an order and if you can't understand that, you and I are going to have more problems than I anticipated. So put your pride aside and work this case like the professional you're meant to be.'

Yagita turned around and began walking to the exit. Furiha stood still, shocked from the audacity of Yagita. He was brought back to reality as she started speaking again.

"I thought we would start where the attack occurred to see if we can find any clues. I'll be in my car. We can't take your motorbike".

She left the room and went to the car park.

Fuhira smiled and trailed behind her slowly with his hands in his pocket. He got into her car and sat with his arms folded and closed his eyes. She shook her head and drove out.

It was a sunny day so the roads were busy and the streets filled with people. The front two windows of her car were down as Yagita swayed her head to the music that was playing on the radio.

"Turn that garbage off Yagita can't you see I'm trying to sleep?"

Yagita looked at him and turned up the music and started singing along to annoy him. Fuhira sighed loudly in response and closed his eyes again but shortly after opened his right eye a bit to get a good look at Yagita.

He thought to himself, [nice silky blonde hair, great complexion.]. He looked down at her chest and his eyes widened a bit in surprise.

She was wearing a well fitted grey vest top and black jeans. [Damn, those are big. Maybe I could get used to her...] before he could finish his thought, she interrupted.

"Take a picture, it will last longer" she said with a plain look on her face.

"Huh? What?" He said, trying to act surprised.

She shook her head, "We are here".

Fuhira opened his eyes fully and saw that they were near the Blue River Park.

"I wasn't looking at you, do not flatter yourself"

She got out of the car and locked it, ran her hand through her hair and smirked. "I never said you did, genius. We have work to do now let's go"

"Since when do you give me orders?" He said, as he desperately tried to avoid the fact that she got the better of him. 'I'm still the better detective here. Don't forget that.'

"That's your opinion. Now fix your erection before you get accused of being a child molester. We are going into a park"

Fuhira looked down and laughed "This doesn't mean anything"

Yagita smiled and walked in front, leading the pair into the secluded part of the park where the fight took place and both their expressions got serious as they put their game faces on.

Fuhira started scanning the area to see if there were noticeable prints or pieces of evidence or clues that would give them an idea of what went down. Yagita did the same.

Fuhira drew her attention to something on the floor behind some leaves.

"Look" he said, as he pointed towards the floor she looked where he was pointing and found an empty shell.

"We should send this to evidence" Yagita said, as she put the shell into an evidence bag. "How did you find it anyway?"

'That's one of the cool things about being a cyborg. ' He pointed to his eyes, 'cybernetic eyes'

"Whatever. So what do you think happened here?"

'Well judging from that crater there and the indentation on that Park bench, I'd say someone or some people used their powers to attack those guys.'

'Also, look here' this time, she drew his attention to faint footprints. 'Looks like someone was running away but the footprints stop here. It's almost as if he disappeared'

"Or he was somehow thrown against that bench there". Yagita turned around and looked at the bench, then at the footprints again.

'Hard to say. Let's go see if the kids saw anything'

'You're not bad' Fuhira said with a soft smile.

The pair began walking towards the school when Furiha's phone rang. He answered. From his expression, Yagita could tell that it was urgent.

'What was that?' She asked

"Someone just said their house is being robbed. It's 10 minutes from here let's go"

Fuhira and Yagita raced back to the car to go check out what was going on.

Yagita turned on the siren and drove to the scene very quickly. It was an old building that looked abandoned.

Fuhira got out of the car and stood scanning the building, using his infrared mode.

Furiha said in a low voice, "Yagita, the heat signatures aren't showing anything. They must be using some sort of blocker, tread with caution."

Yagita nodded and removed her pistol from its holster. As they both walked towards the entrance of the building, she thought to herself [Why would they call his phone and not the emergency services? Something is not right.]

Yagita put up her fingers, one at a time, signalling 1,2,3. Fuhira opened the door to the entrance quickly and Yagita stepped in quickly with her gun poised in front of her.

"Clear" Yagita said in a hushed tone.

Fuhira followed her in and pointed at a staircase at the corner of the room, indicating with his hands that he was going to go up the stairs and for her to stay and search the ground floor.

She nodded in agreement and walked off to search the rooms downstairs while Fuhira walked up the stairs slowly. He got out his revolver and took it off safety.

He got up the stairs to the first floor, he looked around. There were a couple of rooms there and as he was about to start scanning, to see if there was anyone was on the floor, two dog like creatures suddenly ran at him from opposite directions.

Fuhira looked both ways, slightly shocked at the creatures running at him. He fired 4 shots at the hound on the left, all of them hitting the hound in the head and it fell and stopped moving.

Before he could turn around, the second hound jumped on him, causing him to fall to the ground with it on top. It began attempting to rip into his arm. Fuhira, using all his strength, pushed the hound off, rolled backwards into a crouch and got a good look at the hound.

It's eye's were deep, bright, and glowing red. It's teeth, large and razor like, to the point where it's mouth couldn't close.

He thought to himself, [what the fuck is this thing].

He looked down at his arm and realised if not for the cybernetic implants, his arm would've come off. His skin was completely ripped off and the bare metal used to replace his bones was left in the open.

Slightly worried, he looked down at his revolver and then back up at the hound. The hound leapt at him and he rolled underneath, picked up his revolver, turned around and fired two shots at the hound, hitting it in both eyes. It fell to the floor, lifeless.

He looked at his right arm again. "Good thing I had these metal reinforcements" he said to himself. He picked up his walkie talkie and warned Yagita to be extremely careful, as he was attacked by a "big dog", as he put it.

He walked up the stairs again cautiously. After he was convinced there was nothing in the second floor, he moved up to the third.

There was only one room on that floor and it was at end of the coridoor.

He walked up to it slowly, kicked it off its hinges and stepped in, his revolver in front of him with his finger on the trigger.

He was greeted by a slow clap and a dark laugh. 'Took you long enough '.

Furiha froze.

He struggled to gather his thoughts.

[Why is he here?]

[Why is he back?], he asked himself.

Aihara Utari stepped out into the light with a smile on his face. He was a tall, muscular man, with dark hair and broad shoulders.

He had twin ninja swords on his back, both of them on the right side of his back, with the hilts coming off his right shoulder. He also had a considerably long katana by his left side.

"Hello little brother"

Fuhira's expression was a mixture of shock and anger.

"Why the fuck are you here?" He took a step back and gripped his gun tighter.

Aihara walked forward, still smiling. "Did you like my hounds Hira?"

Fuhira raised his voice, "Take another step and I'll put a bullet between your eyes like I did to your little pets".

Aihara laughed again, "we both know that's not true brother. You have a revolver in your hand and if I'm correct, you fired 6 shots. Now, unless you reloaded before you got in here, which I doubt, I'd say that gun is empty."

Fuhira realised his brother got the better of him but he tried to hide it.

Aihara said silently with a smile as he reached for the short swords, "Now here comes the sidekick"

Yagita stepped in and fired two shots at Aihara. He drew one of the ninja swords and deflected both bullets at a speed Yagita couldn't comprehend.

Yagita moved in front of Furiha, who was still rooted to the spot and fired a few more shots at Aihara. He drew his second sword and moved through the bullets, like paper moving through a soft wind, deflecting the bullets as he did so. In a matter of milliseconds, he was next to Yagita, with a blade at her neck smiling.

'You see guns make you stiff' he said, "But a blade, it's like an extension of you. If I wanted I, could carve you like a turkey but Fuhira wouldn't like that would he?"

He looked at his brother who looked even more angry than he did before, 'Yagita, move'. Yagita stepped back quickly as Fuhira charged at his brother.

Aihara smiled, resheathed his swords and got into a defensive stance as a shroud of dark flames enveloped Fuhira.

Aihara did the same and covered himself in a shroud.

Yagita stood there watching, surprised, with her mouth slightly opened.

As Fuhira punched his brother, Aihara flew into the wall, breaking a few of the bricks. He came at Aihara again who shifted to the side quickly, evading the attack. He swung at Fuhira but he dodged it and then as a counterattack, sent a wave of thick shadow-like flames that took Aihara to the ceiling, breaking it in the process. Aihara fell back down and landed on his face. He quickly got up, narrowly avoiding another wave of Fuhira's attack.

He stood up and faced Fuhira who looked a bit weary. The shroud around Fuhira dissipated and he fell to his knees slowly.

Aihara shook his head slowly, 'You have gone weaker brother. You can't avoid your past forever. That darkness is part of you, the sooner your embrace it, the better'

Fuhira looked up, still angry 'I will never become you, or dad'

'we'll see. I'll see you around Hira'

He jumped out the window and shortly after, the only sound in the room was Fuhira's loud breathing.

'who was that?' Yagita asked, sounding slightly shaken. 'What are you?'

'Trouble' he replied.
