"Why aren't you in bed?"
Kristin's face blushed. Even though she knew the purpose of the question, hearing it from Mel made her feel embarrassed.
"I feel good! I should go before I become a burden on you any longer!"
Kristin, bowing her head, spoke by mumbling. She didn't dare to say what was on her mind. Mel let out a deep breath, pushed the door left ajar, and sat in the wide-backed chair near the head of the table.
"Kristin, you can stay here as long as you want. Stop, don't interrupt me! I know you wouldn't accept such a thing, would you?"
Without giving the young girl, who attempted to barge in, the opportunity to interrupt, Mel continued to speak.
"I knew it, so I arranged something for you. I don't insist, but if you accept it, I will be thrilled."
