“Well, no wonder he passed out,” the nurse laughed. “Men are so stupid. But he must really care about you, dear. And he seems like the type who would never hurt a fly.”

They were wrong about that part, but at least he would never hurt a woman.

When he came to and recovered from seeing his head shaved more from the stitches, he kissed Marcia and asked if she’d be all right for a while.

“I have something to do, and I want to check up on Peter. I’ll see you in the morning and if they let you go, I’ll take you home. See if you need groceries, how the girls are doing, all that. Okay?”

Marcia shook her head. With all the shit she’d pulled, and she’d never even really noticed this delightful guy, and here he was taking care of her, her family, and hey, was still very good looking, too.

Dick and Ned’s doctor appeared in the waiting room at the same time, and Peter was happy to see both of them, but the doctor more. “How is he?” he asked, leaping to his feet.
