Chapter 10: How should I address you?

The ride to the Walter mansion was quite long because the Walter mansion was located on the outskirts of the city. Despite the long journey, the peaceful scenery on the city's outskirts made the ride more enjoyable.

As the driver navigated the winding roads, Roxanne couldn't help but be mesmerized by the serene beauty of nature.

The ride took about an hour and a half before they got to Evergreen Villa, where the Walter Mansion is located.

Evergreen Villa was situated on the top of a mountain, surrounded by lush greenery, making it a perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city. It was also home to more than fifty villas, making it an exceptional and desirable place to live.

The villa was thoughtfully designed to provide residents with a peaceful and serene environment. It was an ideal place for upper class and elite families who wanted to relax and have some peace and quiet retirement life.

'Evergreen Villa, it really matches the name.' Roxanne muttered as she was convinced that the name perfectly encapsulated the beauty of the villa and that it lived up to its reputation.

This was the first time she had visited a place that she had never imagined visiting in her past life.

"No wonder the Walters chose this place as the location of their mansion. It's easy to see when the sun rises and sets on that part of the hill." Wendy exclaimed as she pointed in a direction up the mountain.

The excitement in her eyes made Roxanne laugh at her reaction. She was also in awe of the beautiful views and serenity of the mountains.

"Young miss we are here." The driver announced to both ladies who were captivated by the scene.

"Oh, thanks for the wonderful drive, Randy." Wendy thanked the driver who nodded his head with a smile on his face.

"Thanks for the ride, see you later." Roxanne said. The door was about to be opened when Wendy grabbed her other wrist.

"Not so fast, young lady." Wendy said.

"What? Why are you stopping?" Roxanne raised her brow as she looked at Wendy.

"What do you mean by what? Do you think I'll let you go in there all by yourself? No way, we are going in there together. Now get your body out of the car and let's get moving," Wendy was also about to get out of the car before Roxanne called her back.

"Wait Wendy, you can't do that." Roxanne hurriedly called her back into the car.

"Why? I know they are your grandparents but I have to make sure that you are safe, okay? You can't expect me to leave without making sure you are okay. Besides, mom would scold me if she found out I just let you walk in there alone."

Wendy insisted that she wanted to be certain Roxanne was going to be alright.

Roxanne sighed as she felt warm in her heart and regretted once again discarding the people who actually cared about her in her past life.

"I know you are concerned, but this is something I would like to do alone." Although she appreciated Wendy's concern, she needed to handle it on her own.

Wendy ignored Roxanne and was about to get out of the car but Roxanne suddenly stopped her by grabbing her hand.

"I'd like to handle this alone." She looked at Wendy with pleading eyes.

"Roxanne Smith, what would I do with you?" Wendy sighed as she pinched the space between her eyebrows.

It was understandable that Roxanne felt that way, but Wendy just wanted to make sure that she was alright.

When Roxanne saw Wendy contemplating her thoughts, she said, "I'll call you after I meet them."

"I heard the same thing three days ago. This time around how am I supposed to be sure that it won't take you a week before you call me?" Wendy stated as she glared at Roxanne.

"Okay, that was fair enough, then why don't you wait for me around the corner? I'll send you a text after I meet them but if you wait for thirty minutes without receiving my message, you can come look for me inside." Roxanne suggested instead.

"Fine.. I know you are ditching me again. It has to do with your reasons earlier, but let's make it twenty minutes and then we'll have a deal." Wendy replied without looking at Roxanne's face.

"Twenty five minutes, no more and no less." Roxanne also bargained.

"Deal." Wendy hesitated for a while before she agreed which made Roxanne hug her.

"If you don't call me or text me after the allocated time then I'm coming to find you." Wendy said, making Roxanne break the hug and look at her.

"You sound like my mom permitting me to go out on my first date." Roxanne jested with a slight chuckle.

"Shut up and get out of my car before I change my mind." Wendy said as she pushed Roxanne out of the car.

Wendy rolled down the window so she could look at Roxanne. "Are you sure you will be alright alone?" She asked, trying her luck one more time.

Understanding Wendy's intentions, Roxanne said, "Don't even think about it."

"Fine then, I will be leaving." Wendy pouted and rolled up her window.

Roxanne smiled and waved her hands as the car drove off.

"I really shouldn't leave her alone." Wendy muttered to herself as she looked back seeing Roxanne still watching the car leave. She wanted to stay but she had to respect Roxanne's decisions.

The smile on Roxanne's face disappeared after the car left as she watched the car drive off until it was out of sight.

A cold expression crossed her face as she proceeded toward the imposing black gate and pressed the doorbell.

"Miss, how may we help you?" A voice said from the microphone placed outside the gate.

With a polite smile on her face, Roxanne replied, "I'd like to see Mr. Walter.".

"Do you have an appointment with the Master today?" The guard asked again.

"No I don't." Roxanne replied curtly.

"Then I am sorry Miss we can't just let you in since you don't have an appointment with the Master." The guard said.

Roxanne felt disheartened that she would not be able to meet her grandparents after all that trouble. Her failure had already been predetermined before she started as she was already rejected from the gate.

"We are sorry Miss but we are just doing our job. I think it would be helpful if you called the Master and let him know that you are here." The guard suggested it when he saw the disappointed expression on her face through the CCTV.

"That's okay." Roxanne said, trying to hide her disappointment. "I understand that you are doing your job, but could you inform him of my presence?" She politely inquired.

However, she received no response from the voice and she realized that the person might be reluctant.

"I know you are scared of losing your job, but don't worry I'm sure Mr. Walter would definitely recognize me." Roxanne pleaded through the microphone again.

She was about to turn around and give up after waiting for several minutes without any response when the voice spoke again.

"I'll notify the main building, but don't expect much to happen. How should I address you?" The voice replied.

Roxanne's face glowed and she immediately introduced herself through the microphone. "Roxanne Smith, daughter of Evelyn Walter." Roxanne replied.
