Matthew

April 19, 2013, FRIDAY, 11:00pm

I'm Matthew. My friends call me Matt. I'm 18 years old, a basketball player at our school. I go to the same school as Chloe.

My mom left us when Addie was still a baby, I was 7 at that time. So, my father took over the responsibility. My father was a great father. He took care of us, and trust me, it wasn't easy. He provided everything we need. School, food, house. He always came to my games. Every single game that we played, he was there. Even when Addie joined the soccer team. He never missed any games. Everything was going great, until one day, he was scammed by his partner.

Everything was a mess. Our companies went bankrupt. Now the bank owns everything. And us, we are now living in a small apartment.

Chloe doesn't know the details of wht happened to us. She knew that the company went all the way down. Well, it was all over the news. But she doesn't have a clue to the other things that happened to us. I never talked to her about it.

Chloe was my friend since the 2nd grade. I was a transferee and she was my seatmate back then. Since then, we were inseperable. When we were in 3rd grade, she became my best friend.

My feelings for her grew during our 5th grade. They told me that it's not yet love. Maybe they are right because we are still kids. But I like her more than my other girl friends, that's for sure.

Chloe is different from the other girls I dated. She is simple. Everything about her is simple yet unique in their own ways. Every time you will see her, you want to make her happy. Her smile, her glow, everything in her, makes me want to be a great person. To be the best boyfriend for her.

Ever since the family problems began, I lost everything. My interest in studying, sports, I didn't have much energy to hang out with Chloe anymore, take her on dates or even call and text her. It was always a bad day for me. We were always arguing for the past few months. She doesn't know the whole story and I can't tell her. She has too many responsibilities right now. I don't want to be a burden to her.

I love her so much. Don't get me wrong. And yes, I know I'm stupid. I miss her. I miss my old life.

I was sitting in my bed when I picked up my phone and dialed her number.

*rings*

"Hey, Matt." she answered grogily.

"Hey, how are you?"

"Sleepy." she yawned.

"Did I wake you up?"

"No, it's fine Matt. What is it?"

I don't even know what to say. I just called her because I miss her.

Addie knocked on my door,

"Matt, Josh is at the front door. He said you were expecting him?" Addie yells on the other side

"Matt, why is Josh there?"

Chloe said on the other line.

"We'll.. umm... hang out."

"Matt please don't go out. You're always going home drunk whenever you're with that guy."

This is one of the problems between us right now. She doesn't like my new friends and the other new things happening in my life.

I don't blame her. But, I've changed. My life changed

"Come on Chloe. You're not my mother."

"Matt stop... just... why are you like this to me?" She was crying now.

"Stop doing this with your life. I love you and I don't want the Matt I am seeing right now."

She was sobbing.

"I am still me Chloe! Don't be such a drama queen." I yelled at her on the phone

She was just sobbing.

"You know what? Just fuck off, Chloe."

I hung up the phone and picked up my jacket.
