Forty Thieves

I was running away from them. My baby was crying in my arms as I tried to shush him. The biting cold was harsh my already thin frame. My baby’s lips started turning white. I glanced at how my baby boy stopped crying. I continued running until the town was far behind us and all I could see in front of us were just a field of thick snow. My baby’s lips turned blue. “Oh Lord, please don’t let anything happen to him,” I prayed to God and caught sight of an old church up the hill to the left of the snow-covered path. “Hang on there, baby, we are almost there,” I whispered to him. The falling snow was heavier as the minutes ticked by. Soon we were caught in a blizzard. With much difficulty we managed to reach the old church. My heart sank as I saw that it was a dilapidated and abandoned church. It only meant one thing, no warm fire to save my baby. I went inside anyway as that was the only shelter available for miles on end. There was no fire wood by the fire place. No blankets, no rugs or anything that I could use to warm us up. All my baby had was me. I cuddled him closer. I was losing my baby. “No, God! Lord if you can hear my prayer I am at your House right now please let my baby live! You can take my live, please let my baby live!!! Please Lord I beg you,” I kept repeating my prayer believing if I prayer hard enough God will really grant my wish and let me trade my life for my baby’s life. I did not know how long I prayed. When I finally checked on my son he was cold and dead. God did not help us. My prayers went unanswered. I wished the Earth would just open up and swallow me up as I lost the will to live on. I had lost my son, what else was there for me to live for? My last thoughts before I lost consciousness was, “God failed me.” ******************************** This incarnation: Theeya is the direct descendant of one of the original Forty Thieves. Goodbye Jeff

When the palace was abuzz with activities the next morning everyone left the Royal Chambers alone as they knew the newly weds would be having a marathon in bed the entire night and they were not too far from the truth.

Vincent woke up to a still sleeping Theeya. He checked her vitals and saw that she was back to normal. Her pale lips and face were rosy again. The sleep rejuvenated her.

As the sun shone on her brown curls, Vincent admired his Queen as he gently stroked her hair. As the bright ray of sun got into her eyes, her eyelids fluttered and she opened her eyes to the most beautiful blue eyes gazing adoringly at her.

"Good day My Queen," he beamed.

"Good day MiLord," she smiled shyly back as she realised both of them were naked under the sheets.

He kissed her gently on her soft lips and she kissed him back.

"I love this man, warlock or not," she thought.

Suddenly she frowned.

Seeing her creased eyebrows Vincent looked concerned.

"Are you feeling unwell? Do you feel any pain anywhere? Are you hurt?" He rapidly shot all the questions.

She chuckled at his look of panic and concern and shook her head.

"I am just amazed that I married two princes yesterday," she smiled brightly at him.

"You better believe it because there's no backing out My Queen. Let's get dressed now won't we? I'm famished," Vincent said.

As they arrived at the dining room they did not see Jeff at all. Presuming that he was still asleep in his room no one checked on him. It wasn't until he skipped lunch and dinner did Theeya grew restless and asked if anyone saw Jeff that day. Everyone shook their head.

Theeya barged into Jeff's room, adjoining to hers. It was empty. The bed was not even slept in. Nothing was touched or missing. It was as if Jeff disappeared into thin air or he just took off with the shirt on his back.

Theeya sat on a stool as she processed the shock.

"Why did he leave? Who made him leave?" Her eyes looked accusingly at Vincent.

Alarmed, Vincent raised both his hands and denied that he had anything to do with Jeff's disappearance.

"I was with you in bed the whole night! He just left when we were in the bathroom. I swear on my mother's grave!" He looked serious when he said that.

"He left without even saying goodbye..." Theeya cried.

Nine months later...

Congratulations Your Majesty it is a boy!!!

He looked just like Prince Geoffrey!

Suddenly a gust of wind flew by and Theeya blinked a few times. She was back in the void, in the darkness of a cave.

"Did you enjoy watching the show, my love?" Zacchaeus asked with a big smile.

"What is the point of showing me all that?" Asked Theeya.

"You wanted to know how it turned out so here you go! Now get ready, we are going to register our marriage," he beamed.

"Can I not marry you?" she said out loud.

"Nonsense nothing can stop our marriage now, not even yourself!" He looked at her with his brooding eyes.

"Shouldn't Jeff be puzzled if I ended up marrying you, a virtual stranger?" Theeya challenged.

"It was love at first dream, my dear Cassandra, nothing is impossible!" He kissed her right hand.

Nothing was normal about this. She needed to think how she could put an end to this fiasco.

"Why do I feel that you are not telling me everything I should know? Is there something you are not telling me that would hurt me more?" Theeya probed.

His grin froze on his face as he tried to make sense of what she just said and the words kicked him in his face. He then managed a: "You know everything, even without me saying a single word you already know everything," and he shrugged.

"I am not marrying you. Please just let me go. Or if not please kill me so that my family can find my body," she pleaded.

"Don't be silly. I won't kill you. I am going to make you my legal wife today." He pulled her out of "cave" and pushed her into the car, asking the driver to bring them to the magistrate where they would be legally wedded husband and wife.

The car moved. The sun was high in the sky. It was a beautiful day but Theeya did not notice it at all.

"I am not a pawn!!! Enough of your stories. Okay you are a hypnotherapist, you know how to say the right things at the right time, very convincing, bravo," She shouted and clapped her hands dramatically, in a slow-mo applause.

"You are never letting me go, are you?" She felt helpless and slumped into the seat.

Zaccheus smiled at her and said: "You are Mine and all mine!!!"
