Brave Little Princess

"Arie,run!"

"But-but mum you're -"

"I said run!"

The wind was blowing so ruthlessly and dark rain clouds hugged the evening sky.

The sounds of light thunder, strong winds,owls hooting and footsteps that were not so far away blending into one eerie rhythm only added to the fear and anxiety I felt in my thumping heart.

I run closer to my mum and hugged her,closing my eyes and hoping that when I open them again, I'll be back home; in my own bed, with my family surrounding me with smiles,but...

When I opened my eyes, I wasn't home, I wasn't in my bed with my family surrounding me, I was in the middle of nowhere, hugging my mum, feeling her tears and mine as they flowed. Feeling her cold body against mine as we hugged and hearing the footsteps coming closer and closer to me.

My mum tried to keep me from seeing the wounds on her, but I'd already seen them.

"M-mum? What are they going to do to dad. They've already taken him away, I don't want them to take you away too."

The tears flowed more freely now,and I didn't try to stop them.

My five year old mind couldn't comprehend what was going on. I didn't understand much about anything. What are those creatures with glowy eyes chasing us? Why are they even chasing us? What do they want? Why do they look so scary and angry? I had no answers to the questions in my head.

Seeing my mum in the state she was in made me cry out even louder.

" Arie, no matter what happens, just know that I love you... forever...and always."

I looked up to meet her teary eyes,and I couldn't help but cry even more as I hugged her even tighter, praying that I never have to let go;

"I love you mum...and I love dad. Please don't leave me like he did.

Promise me you won't go away too." I felt more of her tears as I continued to hug her, and she felt mine.

My sobs kept getting louder and louder as it filled the night sky and added to the other noises. I was afraid that the noise I was making would make those people find us,but right now I didn't want to think about that. All I want to do now is to feel my mum's soothing embrace as I cried in her arms, letting her know how much I loved her.

"I'm sorry about all this, Arie... We couldn't keep you safe...I couldn't keep you safe. I failed as a mother."

This time she couldn't control herself,and she broke down in my arms,her body quivering due to both the cold and the overwhelming emotions.

"N-no mum, don't say that-"

"I want to promise that I'll be here forever...that I'll never go away but..." she hugged me tightly as she spoke.

"... I don't want to lie to you...and myself. But I will promise you this, Arie; I will live forever..."she pulled away as she placed her hands on my chest,and I placed mine on hers.

"Here...in your heart."

A sad smile formed on her face as she hugged me again.

"N-no. You won't go anywhere. I won't allow you to!"

" Arie, please listen to me...run away from here... please. It's not safe here. I'll hold them off as long as I can,and you'll run as fast as you can away from here."

"No! I won't listen to you. You're hurt and those people-"

" I can handle them, you can't. So please just listen to me Arie, and run...far away from here."

She broke away from the hug, and kissed my forehead.

"I love you, never forget that. Maybe, just maybe, I will be lucky enough to hold you in my arms again. Now, please go, my brave little princess."

She smiled again as she slowly stood up.

I just stood there, like a sculptured statue.

The footsteps became louder than before, and the strange figures coming closer and closer.

" Please Arie, just leave this place."

Her deep ice blue eyes were filled with fear and concern for me.

My feet suddenly got the energy to move,and I turned away from her.

It first started as little steps,but then slowly I increased pace,and soon I was running.

My little heart pounding loudly against my chest.

I hadn't gone so far, when I heard the loud sound of a gun, and a piercing scream soon after.

" Catch the brat!" I heard a loud voice say and I run even faster.

Soon after, I was trapped in a dead end, there was no where else to run to.

I turned back, only to see the silhouettes nearing me, reaching out their hands to me...

No!!!!

I woke up with a jerk. My heart was racing loudly and sweat licked my entire body.

Those blurry visions of my memories which I finally got rid of,which I finally managed to forget, why did I have a nightmare about them. Just why?!

That incident happened a very long time ago,and I could barely remember it. Ever since that scene, the nightmares stopped eventually, and I managed to forget about them.

Why, just why this nightmare?!

How and when did I even fall asleep?!

I sat up from the bed, and took in deep breaths to calm down my racing heart.

Or is it because of this place that I had those dreams? Maybe. It was probably best if I found my way out of here,and fast.

When my body had relaxed somewhat, I got off the bed.

Rushing to the door, I tried to open it, but it was locked from the outside. I sighed and closed my eyes as I rested my head on the door.

I finally turned back,and that was when I noticed the window at the other end of the room. It was large enough for me to go through.

I walked closer to it, but I had the same result as I did with the door when I tried to open it.

The window refused to budge.

Feeling desperate, I took the small chair beside me and broke off one of it's legs. It was hard doing that, but I managed to.

Using the chair's leg as a wedge, I tried to pry the handles of the window open, and finally, I heard a 'click'

I gave the window one last push, and it finally opened.

But as I stared down, I started to rethink the whole ' jumping out ' idea.

I mean I was high above the ground; like REALLY high.

There was a high probability of me breaking both legs or worse, dying,if I jumped out. No that wasn't a probability, it was certain to happen.

My will to jump down didn't completely resolve, but that didn't mean I wasn't scared though.

I was now standing at the edge of the window, ready to jump down.

I took in a deep breath and closed my eyes.

Was I really going to do this? This is a really stupid idea.

I should stop. But as I tried to get back down,my clumsiness got the best of me and I slipped. I felt myself sway.

However before I could fall, I felt a powerful force grab my hand and pull me back in.

The force with which I came in made me fall hard.

I was now on the ground, in front of something...or someone,emitting a deadly aura, and I tensed suddenly, because I recognized the aura.

" Are you out of your mind?!

I heard a husky voice say.

Slowly I looked up, and met a pair of bottle green eyes glaring hard at me. Annoyance danced like wild flames in those cold eyes.
