Chapter 30.Epilogue: A game of chess

*Lein's perspective*

"Finally, I'm done." I stretched my back and relaxed my body

Emi appeared. "Good work, Senpai"

"Emi. How's your work?"

"I already sent a copy to you, senpai"

"Uwah~ as expected of Emi"

"Hai! Well, I didn't expect that you will ask for records of the previous wars."

I asked Emi to investigate the other servants of the west. I opened up the file she sent me.

"That's a lot…" I sighed

"Well… there were a lot of deleted records like files and videos but I was able to restore them all"

"Great job, Emi"

"Hehe praise me more!!!"

"Yea yea you're the best" I praised her while browsing the data

"Oh right! Can you take a look at this file?" She said and pinpointed a red-colored folder.

"This?" I browsed it for a while "Nice job Emi! No! You're the best!" I praised her

"Eh! I am happy you are praising me but… why?" she replied

"This is what I need to make a counter"

"That is Saber of West? Right?"

"Yeah…"

Saber of West is their trump card. His sheer strength is enough to be labeled as an Anti-Army Noble Phantasm. I watched the video attached to the file.

A man wearing simple clothes appeared. He brought out a sword out of nowhere. The sword was thick, it was a broadsword. Swords where you normally need 2 hands to lift, but he only used one hand. His sword produced flames, bright red flames and in a matter of seconds, his flames burned the surrounding. It was unclear where the place was, all I can see is the dark alleys and streetlights. And other servants who were of course also Sabers, based on the 2nd Hallowed Grail War's rule, died to his flames. The clip ended with the camera being burned to ashes.

I searched for other video files but the records were all the same. He burned everything and anything after pulling out his sword. I watched them again and again.

"Senpai?" Emi called me which made me lose focus

I sighed "I hoped it is just me overthinking things but, I let my guard down."

"Senpai? What's wrong?" Emi asked with a worried voice

"Here take a look at this" I sent her a short video clip

"This is…Chief right? And the Saber of West?" she asked as she watched the video "What?!? The place was surrounded by flames instantly?" she shouted

"Yep. I already figured out the other servant's true name…but he was the only one I want to deny…"

"Does this mean…"

"Yea…I had a hunch. But after watching this clip. I am now certain of it. His identity" I relaxed my back and crossed my arms.

"Then? Who is he? A hero? Or a fictional character?"

"A god" I answered

"What?!? A…a god??? Isn't that"

"Breaking the rules of the war?" I asked

"Yea…"

"We have Haru-nee you know?" I replied

"I agree. But she is a pseudo-servant, not the divine servant herself…"

I smiled "Yea your right they are cheating"

She was silent for a while

"What?" I asked her

"I thought you would have a good counterargument ready for that…" she asked in disbelief

"I don't have one for that…that is why I denied it at first" I replied

"I…I see… So? Who is he?"

"Not really a god perse…but close"

"A fire god? And a flame sword? There is a lot of them… Greek, Roman, Scandinavia, German, etc…"

"Out of all those things you mentioned. What's the odd one out?" I asked

"Odd one out? Hmmm…I guess it would be German…"

"Wrong answer"

She started thinking…eliminating every possibility… "Hmmm, I don't get it Senpai… If you ask me German myths were not that known unlike Scandinavian or Greek"

"You're right about that. But, I am talking about a process of elimination. Then here is a question. What are the same points of the things you mentioned"

"It would be they are all on the side of the West"

"Correct. Then what is the other one?"

She thought hard "Hmmm…"

"It would be they all have representatives for the War" Aria answered

"Plus points for you, Aria"

"HEY! ARIA STOP STEALING MY POINTS!!!" Emi shouted

"Well, you are having a hard time" she replied

"Anyways, now that we have the same points mentioned. It's time to eliminate one of them."

"There same points? West… Servants…" she was silent but suddenly shouted "AH! It was Scandinavia!!!"

"Why is that?" I asked

"Greece's representative was Perceus or Bellerophon, Germany has Hansel and Gretel, and Lastly, Rome has Flamma. Going by the elimination only Scandinavia or also known as Norse still doesn't show their representatives" she answered

"Bingo" I replied

"YAY!" she shouted happily

"And by that. Who is the god in question?" I asked

"Su—-" Emi replied but I stopped her before she can mention it

"Full Points for you Emi"

"I haven't…"

"Don't mention it now."

"Ok…I am happy I was right but…we…can we win against him?

"Don't worry Emi. I already know how to defeat him."

"If you say so, Senpai…"

"You worried?"

"Hm…Of course, I would…even chief couldn't leave a dent on him…"

"Chief was holding back you know?" I boasted

"Chief was holding back? It doesn't seem like it" she replied

"Just like I said earlier. I will defeat him" I stood up

"Then I will just wait for your safe return…Senpai~"

"Hm. I will. I still have a promise to you after all"

"Hehe a date with senpai~" she replied with her hands on her cheeks

"Yea yea. I need to go now. I'm starving with all the thinking." I told her

"Yes! Then please enjoy your meal Senpai!"

"I will…" After that, I disconnected the call…

I sighed again…how many times did I sigh today? I don't want to count… the war… it will end the day after tomorrow…I have to end it by then…I can't prolong it anymore.

This is the only choice…the only way for 'humans' to win…

Sigh "What's for dinner? I hope it's delicious" I left the room and went downstairs.
