15. The Moon Fox

I picked her up to observe her closely. She has pure white fur and a fluffy tail, as long as the rest of her body, a small snout. She has cute ears and large golden eyes, just like mine.

She was very small, only about the size of my one hand. From her size, I'd say that she is around 2-3 months old. I picked her up to observe her closely. She looks like a light fox, a species of fox magical beasts that use light element. She also has a silver coloured, crescent moon shaped mark on her forehead. Wait!!!. Sigh~

"You must have had quite a rough life till now, right?" I softly asked the cub and it seems she understood me as her eyes held unmistakable sadness. I couldn't see it any longer, so I hugged her and stroked her fur.

"It's fine now, you won't have to go through that ever again. I promise" I told her and it took a few seconds for that to register in her mind but once it did, water started gathering in her eyes and she burst into tears on my chest while I just stroked her back to comfort her.

Light foxes are A ranked magical beasts. They have white fur and red eyes and are famous for their gentle nature and light element but they are quite rare nowadays because of an incident a few centuries ago.

Due to a natural mutation, a special fox is sometimes born in a light fox tribe. It has golden eyes and a crescent moon shaped mark on its forehead. They are stronger than their normal counterparts and can grow up to become 'Calamity level' beasts, i.e beasts which require at least a wizard saint to be defeated.

Because they look quite different, they are often discriminated against in their tribe and also get bullied a lot. A few centuries ago, one such mutated fox grew angry because of constant bullying and murdered its entire tribe.

After that, it grew violent and started attacking humans. It grew very strong as time passed and finally in its arrogance, it attacked a fire dragon. Their fight lasted for 3 days and 3 nights but the result shocked the entire world.

Both the fox and the dragon died in battle. Although the dragon was only average among it's species but still, it was a dragon. A creature on the top of the food chain. An apex predator.

It was shocking that a weaker species, according to the dragons, especially the foxes whom they treated as food could have the potential to match and kill one of their kind.

It hurt the pride of dragons and they launched mass killing of light foxes under the banner of a light dragon who was afraid that another one of such fox would be born who will take its species to a higher level and will wage war on the light dragon to determine the true master of light.

Light foxes were on the verge of extinction when the fire dragon king 'Igneel' stepped in to stop the dragon slaughter and saved them.

He was impressed by the fight that happened between the mutated fox and the dragon and gave these mutated foxes a new name, i.e 'moon fox' and that particular moon fox was dubbed 'The Moon Fox King' by him.

Although the extermination of light foxes was stopped, but they were still pushed to the brink is extinction, as a result of which they started hating moon foxes.

From then on, any moon fox born in the light fox tribe is expelled from the tribe and in some extreme cases, they are even killed as soon as they are born.
