Extrasensory Perception System (EsPerS)

I Just Wanted You To Rest~

"She came here because they need help, they are under the assault of the beasts from the east and from their information it will only get worse."

A gasp of surprise was heard all around when they mentioned the beast attack. I, on the other hand, was thinking about something completely different…

Is this why Dante told me to stay?... I could think about how much Dante knows and why he didn't tell me about this later.

Right now, we have a new problem on our hands and without Dr. Harting here apparently it was up to this group of strangers to solve it. I moved my gaze across the whole room looking at all of them carefully.

Most of the people in the room were the head of the different areas, the group was composed mainly by ordinary people, with no power and probably without combat experience either. I think that I can assume that they have lived an almost normal life after the meteor shower, they were protected by being on the middle of a big group, so facing a horde of savage beasts was something scary and difficult for them to imagine.

Since most of them were too confused to talk and were still digesting the news I raised the first question to understand the situation.

"What kind of help are we talking about?"

Sigrid looked at me clearly nervous, but it was an expected question. So after a deep breath, she started to talk.

"The Aurora Clinic board is still discussing the best course of action, for now, we need some help fending off the beast and a representative that can make decisions on behalf of Green Shelter."

I felt like she was hiding something. If it was just the reinforcement that should be enough but why they need someone to take a decision on behalf of Green Shelter?

Something was off, and I wasn't the only one that noticed. The tall guy that came last with Leon talked this time.

"Most of our hunting teams already left so it will be difficult to call them back. Also, there is clearly something else, and I think that we would appreciate honesty if you are asking our help… Why you need someone that will have the power of decision on our behalf? The only person like that is currently out of here and if you want any decision to be made it has to come from this whole group."

Sigrid stood there a couple of seconds before answering.

"The board is planning to leave the clinic, an evacuation to Green Shelter, the problem is what to do with the patients, we have a lot of critical patients that are difficult to move and need constant care… there is some people on the board that want to leave them behind and some that want to bring everyone with them."

I noticed that Sigrid's voice broke while she told us that.

It was indeed tricky, they needed someone that can follow the decision they took when the moment comes, but now that we know about it, we have to make the choice of how much are we willing to help them. Even if Aurora Clinic decides to move everyone are we going to be willing to accept those critical patients? They will absorb resources without contributing with anything, in some cases without even the potential for recovery.

But who is the one that will take the responsibility of leaving them behind? It was the same as killing them.

The conference room fell into an awkward silence, and everyone looked at each other, now that we know this we have to decide if we are willing to receive those patients, but no one was willing to take the first step or to said what we all were thinking and be the bad guy.

Russell decided to try to change the subject.

"How many beasts are attacking right now?"

"The wave is huge, it's difficult to know the exact numbers because of the buildings around, but it should be hundreds, luckily the streets are narrow, and the blockades are resisting for now."

She was getting nervous, and I wasn't the only one that noticed it. With that number of beasts, it was clear to me that there might be an Alpha involved.

After that there was another awkward silence, I waited another couple of seconds for someone to talk, technically I wasn't a part of Green Shelter… I was an ally, so it wasn't my place to make decisions but seeing the things like this at least I could try to help them to decide on something.

"We have to keep this up so let's vote, those that agree to do something and help the Aurora Clinic raise your hand."

I raised my hand too if they told me to come, I suppose that I have a vote, right?

My hand was followed by the hands of everyone on the room.

"Good, now we know that we all want to do something to help Aurora clinic."

I give a look to the tall man that was the leader of the hunting groups. He understood my meaning and nodded, he told something on Leon's ear, and the next second I could see Leon giving large strides to leave the room.

"Next, we have to discuss the refugees… can someone bring papers and pen or something to write with?"

The woman that picked up Russell and me at the Armory, went to a corner to take the things I asked for and started to give to everyone, the pens were not enough, so we had to take turns to cast our votes.

"We have three options on this topic. "

I said while raising my index finger.

"Option 1 is that we think that there is no space or we don't have the resource to accept the incoming refugees, so you disagree in taking them to Green Shelter, we still will try to help in some way."

I continued to Raise my finger one by one while giving them the options.

"Option 2 is that we are going to accept refugees, but just those that we think can be a contribution to Green Shelter and as long as they agree to follow Green Shelter Rules, about the method of selection we can discuss it later. Finally, Option 3 is that as long as they agree to follow and respect the rules, there is no problem in everyone coming here."

Everyone started to cast votes and throw them on a box, I also added my vote for option 2 on the box.

As I finished casting my vote, a voice sounded on my head.

'Hey, tell Dr. Rehn to get ready~, there is two critical, and a gunshot on the leg incoming~.'

'What?! Are G and Hayley ok?'

'The wounded are from the Investigation team that we rescue.'

'Wait, they just left this morning…'

'Yeah~ but I rescued them yesterday.'

'You could have told me… are you near Green Shelter then??'

'Yeah in about 20 minutes or so~.'

'Is Dr. Harting coming back too?'

'Yes~, don't worry I'll tell him to go to the conference away.'

'Ok, you have to tell me everything later… by the way, did you make me stay because of the beast invasion from the east?'

'No~. I just wanted you to rest…'

As I finished my conversation with Dante, all the votes were cast and counted, there were some 1s and 3s, but the winner was number 2 by far.

"Dr. Harting is on his way back, so we should wait for him for the next part. In the meantime think about how we select the refugees."

Some were surprised that he was already back, some were surprised by the coldness from how I said, select refugees.

I could see that Sigrid was on the verge of tears and the tall guy that knew about the mission, was deep I thought with a worried face, after all, he knew what could mean the fact that Dr. Harting was back and the girl that took my spot on the investigation team, was from his team.

People took the chance to make a little break and discuss among themselves.

I got to Dr. Rehn to tell him and prepare to receive them, I was planning to go and help too.

"Dr. Rehn, I just got a telepathic message. The rescue team is coming back with the investigation team, there are two in a critical state, and one with a gunshot on the leg."

Dr. Rehn probably already figured out that the message that informed me about the injured was the same that told me about Dr. Harting arrival.

The tall guy was near and heard what I said.

"Can you please send someone and tell me about their evolution please?"

He was clearly worried, so I nodded to him.

Without losing more time, we went to the north wing of the school. Dr. Rehn started to yell orders around.

A moment later I was leaving the place with three stretchers, a lot of medical equipment and a bunch of Doctors, paramedic, and nurses.
