star in reach {2}

"Alright, AI," Kai said, his voice tinged with excitement, "let's get a better look at that star. Open those blinds all the way."

[Acknowledged, Owner command, Switching containment blinds to transparent mode. Radiation and light intensity will remain regulated, but visual clarity will be significantly enhanced.]

A low hum resonated through the room as the transformation began. Unlike before, the black slats didn't simply retract. This time, starting from the top of the window, each slat flipped with a soft hiss, revealing a section of transparent material beneath. It was a gradual reveal, a tease of the spectacle to come.

Kai, captivated, watched the transformation. "And while you're at it, AI, deactivate the gravity field. I want to feel the ground under my feet again."

[Gravity field deactivated.]

The familiar sensation of weight returned as Kai's feet touched the cool floor. The robotic arms attached to his back whirred and extended subtly, adjusting to his movements as he approached the window. With each step, the breathtaking vista outside expanded.

Finally, Kai stood right before the window, his hand pressed against the smooth, transparent surface. He gazed upwards, his metallic body a stark contrast to the vibrant scene outside.

His optical sensors seamlessly filtering out the harsh glare and adjust to the light's intensity. The sight that greeted him was even more awe-inspiring than he'd imagined.

The blue dwarf star, held captive within a near-invisible energy field, pulsed with an ethereal brilliance. Six colossal beams of light, each thicker than any ship he'd ever seen, acted as tethers, anchoring the star at the center of the Dyson sphere. The sphere itself wasn't static; it rotated slowly, revealing its intricate network of structures.

But the wonders didn't stop there. Kai noticed a moving metal ring embedded within the chamber walls, containing eight identical rooms with windows like his own. Below each room, a large, circular opening emitted a constant, invisible energy flow directed towards the star.

He realized he was in one of those rooms, a single point on a massive, rotating structure.

Kai's gaze swept across the vast chamber that housed the star. The walls, had some advanced transparent material, absorbing most of the light while offering a glimpse of the incredible metal below.

Occasionally, sections of the chamber walls shifted, revealing cavernous bays. From these bays, colossal, cylindrical drones emerged. These behemoths emerged with a low hum, and glided towards the Dyson sphere.

Attaching themselves to the sections of the Dyson sphere that weren't facing the star. After a brief period of activity, they would detach and return to the shifting walls, vanishing with an almost spectral silence.

As Kai watched the mesmerizing ballet of technology and celestial power, a single word escaped his lips, filled with a profound sense of awe. "That," he breathed, "is some view."

In that moment, suspended between a breathtaking alien vista and the technological marvel that sustained it, a flicker of realization surged through Kai.

"Who would have thought," he murmured, a flicker of his old humor returning with a small chuckle, "that just a few days ago I was an ordinary person struggling in life... and now here I am, having survived a deadly fight with aliens and standing this close to a star aboard a spaceship."

A strange sense of wonderment filled him. He never imagined his fight against the alien infestation would lead him here, to the very core of the Colossus. He'd assumed he would need to explore and gain clearance before seeing a place like this.

The room's AI chimed in, its voice echoing in the vastness, disturbing kai's musing.

[Core energy levels have reached 70% of maximum capacity. Energy absorption process terminated due to unknown factors. Diagnostics recommended.]

The robotic arms, their purpose finally fulfilled, whirred and retracted with a series of soft clicks. The unusual black sockets on his back pulsed for a moment, then the visceral liquid metal flowed back inside his body.

With smooth, precise movements, the segmented metal plates on his back shifted and sealed, leaving no trace of the transfusion setup.

"Well, that was... something," Kai muttered, running a hand over the newly-smooth metal of his back.

"Guess I'll figure out that whole core problem later. Right now, it's time to tackle that asteroid and see if we can get this ship fully operational." He turned away from the window, a renewed determination fueling his steps.

He turned his gaze back towards the star. "From what I can see, stars functions are still working and are stable, so the mainframe AI wasn't totally compromised, working to keep the star." Kai mused while thinking.

"Hmm, I've got to get a better view of this whole...structure," Kai mused, the word 'ship' not quite fitting anymore. This was something far beyond any vessel he'd ever imagined.

The lingering awe was now laced with a simmering curiosity. He felt a thrill of determination– he wouldn't just be a passenger on this ship, he'd master it.

"Hmm, to do that," he muttered, tapping a metallic finger against his chin thoughtfully, "I need somewhere I can see the ship's layout, its whole structure…and a way to take control. He paced around for a brief moment as his internal system flashed with possibilities for his command.

A spark of inspiration lit his eye sensors. "Hey, AI," he called out, his voice echoing in the vastness. "Can you show me the structural integrity of the ship? I'm talking schematics, damage reports – the whole shebang.I want to know how beat up this old girl is."

The room's AI responded after a brief pause, its voice devoid of the wonder he felt.

[As the Energy Vault's AI, my primary function is maintenance and optimization of the core power systems. Comprehensive ship diagnostics, structural analysis, and all other controls fall under the purview of the Command Deck. Access to the Command Deck is located in the upper A1 level.]

Kai let out a low whistle. "Command deck, huh? Sounds like a fun place to poke around." A flicker of humor danced in his eye sensors.

His internal systems flickered as he thought about his next destination, opening his wrist holo map he saw the crude map of the ship indicating the direction to the upper levels.
