"Curiosity killed the cat." The sinister man raised the edges of his lips into a grin before injecting the girl's neck ruthlessly, leaving her unconscious. Little did she know, her curiosity unlocked many secrets and troubles.... Like Immortality and artificial diseases. Trapped in a dilemma of science and immortality, Nancy must find out more about her bodyguard, and his connection with all of the mess. **** [Excerpt] "How come you have appeared at my house?" Samuel asked, ignoring her question. "And at such an hour? Are your parents aware?" He was bombarding questions at her after her system told her strange things. Nancy was irritated enough to break his neck, but she kept her composure. "Listen here, you little shit, the system is saying you're hurt. And that's what I asked you. Only I ask the questions here." Nancy clarified before jumping onto the bed, an inch apart from him, as she ran her hand from his shirt's collar to the first button. Who wears dress shirts in bed? Before Nancy could unbutton his shirt, he grabbed her hand with a frown on his face. "I do not know what your system told you, but I must clarify that I am not hurt," Samuel said before moving her hand aside. "Prove it, then," Nancy muttered. "The system says it's a thoracic injury. Show me that it's not." "Even if there is one, I believe you have nothing to do with it." Samuel backfired. Right. Nancy had nothing to do with his matters. But she was dying to remove that shirt from him. No, no! Not for any other business. She just needed to see if the gunshot wound was still there or not. "Which means there is a wound," Nancy said, trying to sound unfazed by his words. "I'll help you treat it." She stood up before walking over to the nightstand opposite them to get the first-aid kit. He watched her with narrowed vision, and she stared back from the corner of her eye. {Probability of survival : 50%... 60%... 65%} {The Wound shows signs of healing. Abnormalities detected.} {Platelet count: Normal.} {Platelet function: Faster than normal.} The system kept raising abnormalities from Samuel as if the system could've never guessed for such an existence. It made Nancy wonder, too. She was sure he was another invention. One way, or another… He was involved. [Note: All my novels are fictional. I had been working on this for 2 years but I couldn't get a name. My mom asked me about the plot and I told her that it was complicated; That's when she said 'Dilemma' If you like complicated things, this is for you! Thank you for giving this a shot.

Confronting the Culprit

"You look like you saw a ghost," Amy concluded while chuckling.

Nancy quietly stared at Samuel, wondering if what she thought was true after all.

"Samuel… We need to talk." Nancy wasn't going to mind-map all alone.

"I am listening." Samuel diligently replied.

"Alone."

An awkward silence dwelled in the District Attorney's room, who was practically babysitting college students, making them understand why some people are dangerous.

"Maybe it's time to leave and let me do my work finally?" Marco laughed.

"Are we that annoying?" Amy complained.

"Not at all! Actually, you know what, I need phone numbers, ASAP." Marco was another cheerful soul. "If we're going with a one-man operation, I think everyone in this room should be kept updated."

Nancy scoffed loudly.

"Is that your failed excuse to get Amy's number?" Nancy picked on him right off the bat, forgetting about her mind-map.

Marco nervously chuckled, still confidently handing his phone over to Amy.

Amy took it with a nervous smile. Ah, two love-at-first-sight-birds were in action.

"How old is this Marco dude?" Nancy whispered to Samuel as she had to know her friend's future possible lover.

Samuel, who still hadn't been able to grasp the situation, dwelled deep into thoughts.

"I think he is 28 years old. He is the youngest District Attorney here. He took over his father's job. He is still studying, so I'm positive." Samuel whispered back.

"How do you know him?" Nancy asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Through his father. And I met his father through Sir Roth." Samuel replied bluntly, finally back to his original self. "His father passed away two years ago."

He said those things so bluntly that Nancy almost forgot she was having trust issues with him.

Nancy slowly nodded before falling into the realization that she had to talk to him about various things.

"Okay. Mr. Marco, pleasure doing business with you. If you'd excuse us now." Nancy anticipated an answer.

"Oh, yes, yes. Please come by again." Marco said cheerfully, his eyes fixated on Amy and Amy's on him.

Nancy scoffed at the lovebirds before grabbing Amy's arm tightly and dragging her out of the room.

Samuel said his goodbyes to Marco before following the girls to the car. He drove Amy back to her house, unlike the first plan where she had to visit Nancy's house. Then he drove Nancy back to hers.

As they drove, Nancy kept staring at his face, studying his features carefully. No, no. She was no artist.

She was just a self-proclaimed detective for now.

Samuel stopped the car in front of her house and held the car door handle to open it. But Nancy suddenly put her hand over his, with him turning back to look at her.

"I apologize. I forgot we had to converse about something." Samuel said bluntly before pulling his hand back, making Nancy awkwardly pull her hand back as well.

"Samuel." She called him to get all his attention.

"Nancy." He replied to assure her of his attentiveness.

Nancy nervously blew some air out to prepare herself. The debater was about to stir up a controversial topic. Of course, it made her nervous.

"I think…" Nancy shook her head lightly. "You should tell me about yourself." She changed her statements, thinking it would be too much to start with that fact. "I wanna trust you, Samuel…"

Samuel emotionlessly looked down, lost in thoughts.

"I do not know what to tell you," Samuel concluded.

"Tch." Nancy looked away, scoffing.

This man was handsome, but he loved getting on her nerves.

"I think you're Sebastian's son."

Do you like blunt? Take it then.

Samuel didn't react to it, though.

"I do not know. However, I have already given a sample at my end for a DNA test." He bluntly replied.

Nancy raised an eyebrow.

"You knew?!"

"I suspected."

"No, you did fucking not!"

"Yes, I did. When you raised a suspicion that I might be related, it was only right of me to find proof."

"The fuck?"

"Yes."

"Tell me. Why the fuck would you think you were his son? I only said you were an accomplice!"

Nancy was speechless yet spewing everything that came to her mind. Samuel bluntly sat there.

"The marks on your forehead... " Samuel sighed before he looked up at the encased car ceiling.

The air was muffled, and he was already struggling to breathe.

"I shall request you to leave the car and go inside as it is already getting late. We do not want to get into trouble again." Samuel asked helplessly.

Nancy quickly grabbed her bag and left the car, running inside full of awe.

She ran straight to her room with her head bombarded with questions.

If what Samuel said earlier was true, that he was a runaway, then maybe he was Sebastian's son.

He was a first Sergeant in the military at the age of 23. He was allegedly related to a military doctor and biologist. He was adopted by a military official as well. He knew the General personally.

Who was he?!

Who was he that he stirred so much trouble within Nancy's mind?

Who was he that made Nancy's curiosity ask for more and more?

"I am overthinking," Nancy told herself as she stared in the mirror.

She hesitantly lifted either side of her fringe to reveal the sides of her forehead.

The marks had long disappeared.

Just like her ankle sprain. Just like the gunshot wound Samuel had.

Wait! The gunshot wound!

Nancy found a light within the darkness of her mind.

She needed to find out if his wound was still there or not. If it was, he was probably not involved and was just used to all of the walking and running around normally.

However, if the wound had disappeared already…

Uh oh, that sounds wrong. Nancy's cheeks went poppy red at the thought of shirtless Samuel.

He was next-level handsome.

She still hadn't forgotten about his beautiful abs. She couldn't pay much attention that day because all the scars on his beautiful body caught her attention instead.

Even if he was in the military at some point, how did he end up getting all those scars?

From his hands to his waist, everything was covered in scars.

She wondered why.
