Clara pursed her lips stubbornly, her hands trembling slightly. She felt both angry and furious, wiping away her tears. Why should he be angrier than her? If he gets angry, she won't! But she felt very wronged.
"Sister Clara! Are you two fighting?" Luis squatted by the door, appearing out of nowhere. The room was pitch black, and Clara could only see a pair of shiny eyes.
"Luis!" Clara could hardly speak, realizing she was unexpectedly choked up. She took a deep breath, adjusted her emotions, and said to Luis, "Go back to sleep, Sister Clara and Brother Mateo are just joking."
Luis knew that adults sometimes cried, and at those times, they didn't want children to see them.
"Then I'll go back to sleep. Goodnight, Sister Clara!" Luis said softly.
Tears filled Clara's eyes. She rubbed them vigorously, then carefully felt her way out of the room. Outside, she couldn't see where Mateo had gone.
