We are way past that level

Leah never thought that she would be seeing him here. Mark was literally the last person she was expecting to see today. Leah hadn't heard from him for a whole year since he traveled to Thailand, after cheating on her with Trisha, her supposed best friend.

Mark and Leah had been dating since their college days and their relationship was perfect even after they graduated, until he decided to mess it up.

'What the fuck is Mark doing here? Did he know that she would be here too?' she asked herself inwardly.

Leah tired to act normal, but her mind was racing with different thoughts and emotions. She couldn't believe that she was seeing him again after all this time.

Although she had moved on from the pain he had caused her, but seeing him brought back all the hurt and betrayal she had felt in the past.

Never less, she still exchanged pleasantries him and the other guys.

They made small talk for a few minutes before Ami spoke up again.

"Hey, I'm going to go grab a drink for Leah. Does anyone need anything?" she asked.

"I'm good for now," George replied, while the others asked her to get them shots.

"Alright, I'll be right back," Ami said, before heading off towards the bar.

Leah settled into one of the comfortable couches and looked around the club, taking in the sights and sounds while trying to ignore the fact that Mark sitting down right beside her.

Ami returned shortly to their table carrying a tray of drinks. She served Leah her own drink first before offering the guys their shots. Leah sipped her drink slowly, enjoying the sweet taste of the pineapple mojito mixed with rum. The guys, on the other hand, quickly gulped down their shots of tequila in one go.

Leah tired to occupy her mind with other thoughts while she silently sipped from her drink. All she wanted was to have fun with her friends, but it looks like the world didn't want her to be happy for just one night. Leah sighed and turned to look at Ami direction, who looked all red as George whispered something in her ear.

Leah felt really happy for Ami because she finally found someone who could make her happy. Ami always had the worst luck when it came to guys. All the guys she had ever been with were only dating her because of her money. Ami's dad is actually a successful business man and a millionaire.

But Ami always loved a simple life because she wasn't always rich and she grew up with her maternal grandmother after her mother died who was a strict and simple woman. At that time business was really bad for her dad and losing his wife really wreaked him but he later got back on his feet for his daughter's sake.

Ami wasn't always this happy with her other boyfriends. They were just bunch of assholes and jerks. But George is the only guy who has ever loved, and made her feel special.

"Hey, Leah." Mark's voice snapped her out of her thoughts causing her shoulders to stiffen.

"Hey." Leah replied curtly without looking at him.

"It's been a while," George said, staring at her intently. "How have you been, Leah."

"I've been good." She replied, stirring her drink with her straw.

"I was in Thailand. I had some business stuff there."

She sipped her drink before nodding. "I heard." She was really not in the mood for this conversion, but it seems as though, Mark just wanted to make the talk longer.

"You still haven't forgiven me, have you?" Mark asked, after a few seconds.

Leah's eyes narrowed as she looked at Mark. "Forgiven you?" She scoffed. "You cheated on me, Mark. I'm I supposed to forgive you for sleeping with my best friend or for doing it on our bed?"

"I know I was wrong and stupid, but I'm sorry," Mark said, his voice low. "I was a jerk, and I regret what I did every day. But I'm trying to make it right."

Leah shook her head. "Make what right, there is nothing to left to make right, Mark. You broke everything, my heart, my trust and those are not things that you can just fix easily after a whole year."

"I understand that," Mark said, leaning forward. "But I'm willing to do whatever it takes to make it up to you. I love you, Leah, and I want to be with you. Please, give me another chance."

"I can't believe you," Leah said, her voice rising which drew the other people's attention around the table. "You cheated on me, Mark and then you just disappeared without even apologizing."

"I know," Mark said, his expression pained. "And I'm sorry. I should have been man enough to face you and apologize for what I did. But I was ashamed of myself, and I didn't know how to make things right then."

Leah sat there, her eyes blazing with anger as she looked at Mark. "You did what you were good at... being a fucking coward," she spat out, her lips curving into a smirk.

"It seems like you really hit your head pretty hard somewhere. What are you even thinking, Mark. Do you think you can just come back after a whole year and apologize, and expect me to forgive you and then give you a big kiss for your sincere apology, huh?" She asked sarcastically. "Look, We are way past this forgiveness shit. We are way past this level, Mark"

She shook her head, feeling a wave of disgust wash over her. She couldn't believe that she had ever loved him, let alone trusted him. All the lies, all the deceit, she that taken from him in the past was too much for her to bear.

Leah turned to Ami, her eyes softening slightly. "I'm leaving," she said, adjusting her gown properly. "I'll call you when I get home."

Ami nodded, her lips pressed in a tin line before turning to look at Mark.

"She will be fine." George whispered in her ear.

Ami turned to look at him properly. "Are you sure? She didn't look so good." She asked worriedly.

George nodded before kissing her lightly. "I'm sure." He replied with a reassuring smile.

Ami was also not expecting to see Mark here. He had just shown up at their table and thanked George for the invitation and she did not have the chance to give Leah a heads up about his arrival.

"Why did you even invite him here in the first place?" Ami asked, lowering her voice so that the other people at the table would not be able to hear her voice.

"It wasn't me. It was Andy." George replied.

"Andy. That blabbermouth." Ami said, glaring at Andy from where she sat. "He just couldn't control his mouth, could he." She rolled her eyes before taking a sip from her drink.

...

Leah got into her car, slamming the door shut as she tried to calm her racing thoughts.

As she drove home, Leah thought about all the things she had gone through because of Mark.

Leah's heart sank as she felt a wave of emotions wash over her. Anger, hurt, and betrayal all resurfaced at once, threatening to overwhelm her. She felt a knot form in her stomach as she tried to make sense of the situation.

Leah remembered how she had even asked Mark to stay at her place since he was having some accommodation issue. Everything was going smoothly until after a few months. Mark started complaining about everything she did, but after a month he just stopped and everything had gone back to normal__ so she thought.

She could clearly remember the day he broke her heart. She could still remember the way she felt, all the hurt, all nights she cried because of him. She remembered all of it, everything was just so vivid like it was just today. She could still remember that day, the day it happened, the day he crushed her heart.
