Chapter 1

I opened my eyes and saw myself inside what could only be described as a horse-pulled carriage. The shaking of the ground made me uncomfortable as my head constantly knocked against the cold hard ground of the carriage.

I stood up and took a seat to the left. Feeling a bit disoriented and confused, I didn't want to stand out more than I already did.

There were many people inside the carriage, some seemed poor, and others looked like soldiers or mercenaries from hundreds of years ago. Looking at the somewhat rusty swords hanging on their waists, worry started to build up inside me.

What if I was kidnaped? What if those people had taken them as hostages for some creepy reason?

In my fear, I failed to even think about why would someone carry a sword or even just use carriages. I couldn't properly focus because of the headache.

Just as I was feeling restless, something inexplicable happened.

[The System has been installed, please choose one of the two templates: Uchiha or Taoist

[Kind reminder: Any goals can be achieved no matter what template is chosen, whether it's immortality or the ability to travel to other worlds, any one of them can achieve those goals. The biggest difference is that some innate abilities like Sharingan and Susano must be manually researched and developed as a new bloodline seal if the host decides to use the Taoist template.]

When I read those words, I felt a huge weight lifting from my back.

'T-this... it can't be, right? Have I truly been transmigrated?'

As someone who had read about such situations many times, I knew exactly what it meant to have a System. How many people wouldn't dream of having the same thing if they could? It was truly the best way to achieve any dreams one might have.

'I choose the Uchiha template!'

Although the Taoist template was just as powerful if not more based on my understanding of cultivation and the world of Naruto, I still decided to trust the system that said that both of them could achieve the same things.

[Welcome to the System. The host has been awarded the Uchiha bloodline. Call 'status' to see your information]

Without any hesitation, I called out the words in my head, and another screen popped up in front of me.

2 - This skill grants its owner increased growth speed, allowing all attributes to become stronger at a faster pace than most.

3 - Tsukuyomi (????)

4 - Shuten-doji (????)]

My eyes almost popped out of their sockets as I read the information on the screen.

Although I only knew a few Sharingan-specific skills from the anime, I knew that Tsukuyomi was a powerful Genjutsu that could only be used by Itachi. Based on that, Shuten-doji must also be something similar, like a Mangekyo Sharingan ability or something else in a similar fashion.

Not a second had passed after I read all the information and another screen popped soon after.

[Do you wish to receive the newcomer gift?]

'Yes!'

The screen exploded like a balloon, throwing digital confetti all over the place. Where the screen had once been, a list of things floated mid-air.

Afterward, they turned into a beam of light and hit me directly in the head, almost scaring the shit out of me.

After recomposing myself and making sure that nobody saw that, I waited for a moment and sure enough, information started appearing in my head.

Thanks to the newcomer gift, I basically had all that was needed to become a Genin-level shinobi. Unfortunately, the system didn't provide me with any useful jutsu other than the three common ones taught to all students in Konoha's Ninja Academy.

'I wonder if there's a mean to acquire other jutsus...'

Thinking of that, I quickly started messing around with the system till something new popped up.

It was an exchanging page, but no matter what I did or said, everything in it was shrouded by a strange fog and it wouldn't let me even see what could be used as currency.

Putting all on the back of my head, I focused on my surroundings once more and quickly noticed what appeared to be large walls over the horizon. Although I had to stretch my head quite a lot to see past the coachmen and his horse, I was almost certain of what I was seeing.

'Such a big wall... if my eyes don't fail me, it must be several dozens of meters high... I wonder why it's so big...'

As if knowing my doubts, a person spoke with a laugh.

"Hey kiddo, are you perhaps new to the city? Based on your clothing, I'd say you're a foreigner from the Far East."

The old man sitting on the other side of the carriage spoke with a smirk.

At that exact moment, the memories that belonged to the body returned at a moment's notice, allowing me to better understand the background of my new body, unfortunately, the information that the body had about the world was very scarce and mostly useless.

Thinking that my newfound memories wouldn't help me, I looked up and down at the man and contemplated the meaning of his arrogant smile.

'Does he feel superior for knowing more about the city than me or something?' Although a bit displeased, I wasn't the type that bickered with the elderly so I nodded and replied politely.

"That's right, mister. Can you tell me more about the city up ahead?"

"Fufu! Then pry open your ears youngster, for I have just the right tale for you!"

The man seemed proud about something, and I wasn't going to break his delusions so I listened carefully afraid to lose any important tidbits of information.

"A long time ago, when the tribes of men had yet to see the birth of a Ruler, thunder and rain assaulted these plains like never before. In fear of what could only be described as the end of the world, they sought the help of spirits to give them power and so they did! With the power of the spirits on their sides, humans fought against the forces of nature and barely survived the threat of extinction. Their actions albeit unintentional, caused an ancient seal placed upon the land to break and reveal the entrance to Mother Earth's entrails.

"A complex system of caverns stretched infinitely under the earth and directly connected to a terrifying wall that seemed to wail. The Wailing Wall was a strange thing that separates the world of men from the world of the dead where many demons dwell and rather than gods there be Devils. It's said that the wall is the origin of every monster, but it wasn't always there, you see... it all started with her, a powerful Devil.

"legend says that when the strongest warrior of the human race, Adam, descended to the lowest underground chamber, he was seduced by a charming Devil from a race called Succubi and forced to become her husband. This Devil that later came to be known as the Mother of Calamities, Lilith, was an ambitious woman that desired to conquer worlds and slave a million races. It wasn't without reason that Adam, however, was considered the strongest warrior of the human race.

"After learning of her goal, he recovered some of his consciousness, and with the help of his true lover and guardian spirit, Eve, he conjured a powerful spell that connected the world of men with the world of the divines and used the powerful godly energy that seeped from that world to create the Wailing Wall, forever sealing Lilith inside it.

"He, unfortunately, was forced to use his very soul as the building blocks of the wall, and it's as such that his wails of pain and despair forever echo from within the walls as Mother Lilith tortures his soul to generate the negative energy used to create the monsters that invade our world. This is how the Dungeon City of Orario first came to be and how the gods first noticed the punny existence of our world!"

The old man finished his tale with sparkling eyes, the crowd that was initially bored even clapped their hands with smiles on their faces.

I was skeptical at the beginning of his tale and this scene made it even more difficult to believe his words.

Given his attire, mannerisms, and way of speaking, one profession came to my mind and the puzzle suddenly started to make sense.

"You are... a storyteller, right?"

The old man nodded happily as if that didn't do a thing to diminish the veracity of his words.

"That's right, and how do you like my tale? It took me dozens of years traveling all over the world to Dwarven veins and Elven Holy Lands as well as Ancient Human kingdoms before I managed to piece this tale together. You wouldn't believe the amount of trash and obviously fabricated folktale I found on the way. If not for the help of some very ancient and powerful spirits, I might have never discovered as much as I did."

Seeing the strange look on my face, the man scoffed and spoke with a condescending tone. "You don't have to believe if you don't want to. However, be warned that my reputation as an archeologist and historian is far grander than my reputation as a reputable storyteller! If you don't believe, then ask anyone and you'll understand."

Before I could even ask, some people in the carriage started nodding enthusiastically. "That's right! Professor Moratel is indeed a man worthy of the title of the best storyteller in the world. I heard many stories of how he used his knowledge to help unearth ancient ruins thought to be lost to time."

Soon after the man praised the so-called Professor Moratel, a woman did the same and soon everyone in the carriage showered the old man with all sorts of adjectives that could make one's cheeks go red with shyness.

Thinking of this, I couldn't help but reevaluate the old man in my mind. If he really spoke the truth, then that meant I'm currently in a world with gods and demons where powerful monsters live, whether or not this is indeed the case, just the fact that everyone readily agreed with his words meant that there was some truth to what he said.

"Sorry, I was just a little skeptical... it was my first time hearing such a grand tale."

"Hee, no hard feelings kid, most people would react the same way anyway. It's not like my research has ended. Now that I've collected tons of evidence around the world, I came to this city with the specific purpose of studying the dungeon from the inside. My only hope is to see the mythical Wailing Walls by myself before I die of old age. But what about you? Why did you come to such a place?"

Hearing his question, I couldn't think of a reasonable answer until I thought of the memories left behind in my new body.

"I came here from the Far East to achieve a dream of mine... Back in my homeland, the Emperors of the other dynasties started a large-scale war because of a new God Emperor that has ascended the imperial throne and their conflicts razed the land to the ground, leaving behind a trail of disease, famine, and poverty behind them. My parents died in the war while fighting on the side of the Rebellion Army's leader, Gao'fu. I couldn't stand the war so I fled in search of something that could make me stronger..."

The previously cheerful atmosphere suddenly became tense at the end of my words.

Professor Moratel sighed and looked at me with pity in his eyes. "I'm sorry, kid. I shouldn't have touched your wounds like that, It was inappropriate of me."

I smiled dismissively at his words. "No worries, it's been a few years since it happened. I have already grown used to it. To be honest, I just recently learned of a place where many people can become strong very fast so I came to take a look. Living in the forest alone has made me a little ignorant, so consider this a fair trade for the useful information you provided to me with just a single tale."
